Okay, I loved this movie and I still do- I watched it all the time when I was little.
What I wanted to say was: you all should re-watch it again. Joe Ranft’s name shows up in the beginning credits several times, and I know he worked on this film but I never noticed his name until I knew about him. And, the A113 thing shows up in this film: when the appliances show up at their master’s new apartment, it’s the number on the door. ^^ Jeesh, they must’ve really loved that classroom at CalArts!
How could I possibly forget this film? Heheh, The Brave Little Toaster was one of those movies that I just couldn’t stop watching when I was a little kid. It was back in the VHS days too. I’ll have to find a DVD of it somewhere before I have the luxury of viewing it again. Now that I’ve known for a while that Joe Ranft worked on this, it makes me want to see it again that much more. And if I’m not mistaken, John Lasseter also worked on this as an animator. Not too surprising becasue of that short film he did at CalArts, The Lady and the Lamp .
Oh gosh, I used to watch that film 24/7 when I was younger; my sister and I couldn’t put it down. T’was one of those rare films that creeped me out to an extent that I couldn’t stop watching it. I don’t even want to mention the dreams I had after constantly viewing the sequence where the magnet is chasing Toaster and his gang around the junk yard lot…
Heh. I remember I had a crush on Lampy when I was a kid. Pitiful. I really don’t know why that particular character appealed to me so much. Maybe it was his unique voice or something? (snigger)
But yeah. Great film. It probably contains one of the saddest moments in movie history: The scene with Toaster and the flower. (Makes me cry almost every time…)
Guh, I love this film too much for my own good. My mother taped it for me when I was really young… I remember they showed it in two parts. The first half ended right after Lampy was electrocuted, and I had to wait a whole friggen week to see if he was okay!! Haha. Amazing film, and the main reason why I love Joe Ranft so much.
A few years ago, when I was in a BLT phase once again, I bought the DVD (which is good, but not many extras) and the soundtrack. Most people here know I am an aspiring film composer, and this is one of the best scores I’ve ever heard. David Newman blew me away with such rich, sweeping music that I had to buy the soundtrack. Everybody who loves soundtracks should get it, because it also comes with a booklet that contains lots of information about the movie… it kind of makes up for the DVD, heh.
My favourite character was Lampy, cause he was kinda goofy and made very silly remarks. Radio was great too, mainly because he was voiced by Jon Lovitz, haha! But wow, such a good film… I’m one of the biggest BLT fans out there.
I have the “Mars” one on VHS (yes, you heard me) . Haven’t watched it in ages for obvious reasons. Now that I look back on the film, because I’m older now, I believe it to be a sequel that certainly has it’s moments but is not as good as the oringinal.
I’m SOOO afraid to see the sequels… I don’t think I ever will! I saw a clip of one of the songs in the Mars sequel (the balloons one) and it freaked me out!
Yeah that was a cute movie! I dont own it, but I’ve seen it on tv a few times (back when they used to show it on tv). I think the electric blanket was my favorite of that group. I remember my brother liked the lamp. Only because he had one that was almost the same. I think that’s why he likes the Pixar lamp…
