Been a geek my entire life. And I don’t even fit into just one type of geekdom.
I was the kid who tried to build a time machine when he was eight. I was the kid who rocked to Bach at age 10. I was the kid who could do arithmetic in Mayan.
I was practically groomed to be a geek. Although it was probably by accident. My mother isn’t a geek in the slightest but she raised me on all the geekiest things. We’d watch all the genre shows together. She introduced me to pretty much every major fandom of the past 20 years. From the DCAU to Star Trek to the Whedonverse. I think she might just be a carrier for the geek gene in general and that gene might have a little antenna that picks up the signal in the geek aether. I say this because a couple of years ago she mentioned how Doctor Who was a fantastic program despite never having seen hide nor hair of the property and not knowing anyone who watched it. And I had never said a thing about it as long as I watched it. So it’s probably just an inactive thing in her but it certainly passed on to me.
I’m kind of an all purpose geek; So many things interest me and I love to hear more about them from people who know a great deal more than I do. And I often come away with a certain degree of knowledge that sorta bamboozles people outside of those areas to the point that even when I’m surrounded by fellow geeks they think I’m being too obscure.
But now it’s starting to sound like I’m bragging and that wasn’t my intention. So I think I’ll shut up now.
PIXAR geek, Disney geek, film geek, NASCAR geek, superhero geek, minor comic geek.
I’m not sure if i’m a mega Geek. I dont usually use the word Geek. I prefer nerd. pushes glasses up her nose I think I am in most aspects except for a crazy love of comic books and video games. But I’m a Disney World nerd, Beatles nerd, and Pixar nerd. I like math, science, and computers. I love R2-D2, the Joker and Harley Quinn. The thing that probably confirms it though is I’m a colossal Star Trek fan.
Mega geek here into animation, comics, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Firefly/Serenity, and spreadsheets. Also, my shoulders hunch together and I lift my hands so that my wrists dangle while I say, “Eeeeeeeenh!”
“Eeeeeeeenh!” Steve
I’m only a geek when it comes to things like Disney, Pixar, general animation, film (especially ones from East Asia–I’ve seen something like 150 so far), and grammar. Back in high school, I would practice the English portion of ACT tests, read books on grammar, and correct my school newspaper for fun. I don’t really do that anymore… heh. In fact, my grammar on message boards has become somewhat lax.
And would a prospective foodie count as something geek-like? I feel like that might blur the line between “geeky” and “passionate.”
I’m a Disney geek, Harry Potter geek, video game geek, I could go on and on.
I’m one of the biggest geeks you’ll ever meet.
Oh my Gravy. You sound just like me!!! I’m scared. You’re the third person on this site who I thought sounded just like me.
Haha, why is that?
I also like your little phrase: “Oh my gravy!” I might use it someday.
Disney, PIXAR, other animation, grammar, foreign films–you sound just like me!!(were you in marching band?)
Nope. I’m no good at playing musical instruments.
