Ok I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can’t wait for The Incredibles on Blu Ray. I have a 56 inch DLP HD TV , 7.1 surround sound, Direct TV HD and I got a PS3 For Christmas. So I am Blu ray ready.
I have re bought Cars and Ratatouille on Blue Ray. The Blu Ray versions are much better in the special features department.
I am wondering why they are coming out with Finding Nemo on Blu Ray before The Incredibles.
I know The Incredibles on Blu ray is in the works and Im almost positive that it’s going to be released in the next 6 months.
Do you guys think that they will have even more extras on the Blu Ray version? Added bonus features? I sure hope so and I also hope that they keep all the features that are on the regular DVD version, basically I want an exact port of the regular DVD version when it comes to menus and features and perhaps even extra goddies for the Blu Ray version.
Same release as regular DVD, but the obviously higher quality of Blu Ray
I’m not so psyched for TI on Blu-Ray since the DVD has it all, pretty much. But I would like to see it in HD so maybe I’ll be able to spot the PP truck.
Don’t be so sure on TI being released in the next 6 months. We’ve got Nemo coming and I expect Disney to pace themselves with Pixar releases on HD and use a title like Nemo to try and entice people over. It’s Pixar’s highest grossing film and pretty much a household name, so expect them to play it up a bit. Once we see more people switching over to Blu-Ray, then expect titles like The Incredibles and Toy Story to filter on over.
Be careful, TSS. You’re looking at over $600 just for HD quality. The DVD’s bonus features are good enough, don’t you think? (I know these words dn’t mean a thing to the ULTIMATEW Incredibles fan)
If I had a bit extra pay, I would get The Incredibles released on the high-quality, less expensive, HD DVD.
Blu-ray DVDs are much too expensive. I’ve got a PS3, and we’ll be getting a new HD TV in the next month or so, yet even then I’d only buy my favourite films on Blu-ray. I’m pretty sure the quality is awesome, but until the prices come down, (which they inevitably will) I’m not going to be handing over more of my hard-earned cash than necessary.
And as for the extras on Pixar Blu-ray DVDs, it wouldn’t surprise me if there were a few extra features and ‘behind-the-scenes’ footage added on, but I wouldn’t expect a lot- there’ll be just enough to entice people into paying more for the Blu-ray, but I doubt they’ll cram a lot onto it.
Geez A113, cut down on the “DEATH TO” stuff. Face it, HD-DVD is dead. Now that Blu-Ray is pretty much the sole format, or will be, prices will come down. By this time next year, players will be about $300-400. And they will keep coming down as DVD starts to fade out. By 2010, everyone will be on Blu-Ray. Mark my words. 2010 is when we switch over to Digital TV broadcasting, and most people should have upgraded to a HDTV (god-permitting they come down in price too).
LOL I have a problem with that, don’t I?
I still don’t think the future is “Blu”, but I know you’re right about everyone on HD. I’m going to start work in what’s after HD…3D format wars! OMG that’s going to be an absolute pain! xD
Yea HDDVD is dead. After WB signed exclusively with Blu Ray that was the death blow for HDDVD, But thats ok I was rooting for Blu Ray anyway.
Im not going to rebuy all of my movies on Blu Ray, only my favorites and The Incredibles is certainly in my list of favorite must haves on Blu Ray, In fact Im rebuying all the Pixar Films on Blu Ray.
The fact that they are CGI films and are already digital to begin with makes them perfect for this format. They are straight from the digital source. Im a movie/tv buff and a techno buff. I have to watch my movies and tv shows in the highest quality possible. After I got Tivo I can’t go back to regular. I can’t watch VHS anymore, I don’t even own a VCR anymore. It’s hard for me to watch movies that are fullscreen or pan and scan and now that I have seen true HD I can’t watch standard Defenition anymore.
Mark my words, spending your money on HDDVD or Blu-Ray Disc is a waste of your money (players are twice as much and so is EVERY disc you buy).
Direct Download is the future and Apple is pushing it more than you know. While I’m a huge Apple supporter and do all my animating on my new iMac, I have facts to back up my claim as to not sound completely biased.
Apple launched their iTunes movie download service around the same time that Toshiba and Sony launched their disc formates and Apple has near sold as much as both competitors combined in less time (meaning people are adopting it more than twice as fast)
Now that Apple has announced HD downloads and rentals, I wouldn’t waste my money on discs anymore as their market is only going to sky rocket. Also, new technology will be out VERY soon that will make multiple terabyte HDD smaller than current non-terabyte HDD and less expensive.
It’s just cheaper, more convenient, and is the future. Only downside is it’s only 720p but I’m sure that’ll change just like I’m sure constantly updated online extras will come with the download in the future as storage capacity increases.
Adopting Blu Ray Disc is like continuing to buy CDs while everyone around you has iPods.
Rant over…
Incredibles will looks awesome in HD!
BTW, I have a 3D capable HD TV (it says right on it), anyone think I can get Toy Story 3 in HD-3D?
Anyways, how I see it is that HD IS the future, but the question is: in what format? Now obviously Blu-Ray is winning the HD format war and I can see why, although it costs a bit more it has beautiful picture and lots of space for goodies. Now here comes downloads like at iTunes and Netflix (I believe they recently started offering that), well it’s a great idea, but not just yet, not all computers and internet connections at this point can handle that. Maybe AFTER HD discs die out I’d download, after all, the transition would be easy since it’s so cheap and convenient. But for now I’d buy the actual thing because I’ve noticed direct downloads don’t have special features (as of now) plus the physical disc has a package which is cool. So I’d get discs… for now.
You learn to get patience with Pixar Animation as they take their time and don’t pump out crap faster than China like Dreamworks Animation. The only downside is the longer the wait, the higher the expectations.
I haven’t bought a regular DVD since a year before the release of all the hidef formats as to save the expense of just re-buying it when hidef comes out. Right now, I watch Direct TV HD, only 1080i, and just catch it while its on. I saw Cars on Starz HD almost 5 times a day and watched it enough that I wouldn’t miss it when its gone.
Right now, I’m sticking with Direct TV HD, but once Apple iTunes Movie Downloads is perfected (1080p, extras) and cheaper, I’ll be all over that.
I agree with the cases, I love to get Warner Bros. collector edition things that have lobby cards, theatrical posters, and memorabilia on my favorite movies.
Although I agree with you Skippy on Direct Downloads being the future, it’s not the future right now. We will see Blu-Ray come and go in a proper cycle before we see Direct Downloads. Direct Downloads have not been perfected and will take a while to come to that perfection.
People will still want a physical copy of a movie that they can hold and call their own, but as for rentals, Direct Downloads is definitley the future. I know that with Movies though, I want a physical disc, and plus, there are spiffy new features. And until internet speeds and bandwith are upped, nobody is going to be downloading trueHD movies with special features and all just yet. That’s a while off.
Thank you martini833 and bawpcwpn for proving my point. Skippy I think you need to calm down. So much hostility. Direct Download are still a few years off from perfection.
With Warner Brothers signing exclusive rights to Blu Ray the format wars are over Blu Ray has won, besides it’s not as if I wasted my money on a Blu Ray player, I got a PS3.
If your like me has jave been spoiled by HD and high quality movies then Blu Ray is the way to go.
Yep, I’m spoiled. I still find it hard to beleive that their are people complaining about not being ready for the switch to digital
Film reels lasted near a century, VHS tapes lasted near a score, DVDs lasted near a decade, but will Blu-ray even last an olympiad considering it’s not a huge leap in quality or that much of a format change at all?
I’m sorry but not even 5% of the market is adopting any HD format. The reason being is most people who have HDTV feel (like myself) that standard def should just be dropped and hidef should become the new standard def (considering standard def is not the standard definition of out tvs). we shouldn’t have to pay through the nose to get something we should’ve been getting all along.
Just like nearly all tvs are widescreen and it bugs the crap out of me when a full screen movie comes on (not taking up the full screen of my tv) and says the picture has been altered from its original version and formatted to fit my tv. Umm…don’t you mean formatted not to fit my tv as I now have bars on the side of my screen where picture should be.
Anyone who has Direct TV HD here has to feel the same way. Why do we still have standard def crap when all my TVs are HD and have HD receivers. I shouldn’t have to pay $15 extra each month for HD when when I don’t even use all that standard def crap they make me pay for (lots of clone channels of out HD ones it standard def).
Anyways, this isn’t a forum on HD warz but on the Incredibles.
BTW, anyone else notice how awesome 2D animation looks in HD?You can see every stroke the painter made and every sketch the animator made.
PS: Sorry if I came across as hostile. I hope you feel safe on the boards with me around
My mother won’t even start to prepare for the switch, no matter how much I tell her.
If the future is Blu (which I hope it’s not), it won’t be Blu for long. First came drawing, then photography, then motion pictures, then audio, then motion pictures with audio, then personal film and audio (VHS), then personal DVDs, then high-definition personal motion pictures, then what? Well, in my opinion, it’s three-dimensional video and audio. I’m working on how it works right now. And you don’t need to wear those nerdy glasses!
HD should not be standard def, since it’s going to become boring once we get it.
XDDD
Man, that sucks.
I thought it was a mix of the two. LOL
Yes, very awesome.
Are you kidding? The more the merrier, right guys?
Skippy I hear ya on the whole HD Issue with Direct TV. Why the HELL!!! Dont I have Disney Channel or Toon Disney HD. What the hell are they waiting for? Nickelodeon has jumped on the band wagon as has Cartoon Network.
I hate how there are 7 different channels showing one movie 24/7 and none are HD. Whats that about?
I call and ask when a movie will be made avaliable to order on HD and they don’t know. Meanwhile they have 10 different channels showing the same exact movie 24/7. UUUGGGHHH!!!
