The "Introduction/I'm Back" Thread

Welcome St_Johns, hope you enjoy it here! What sort of animation do you do? What are your plans with what you’ve learned? I’d like to hear about it, and even see some of the stuff you’ve done

I do 3D, normally working on Cinema 4D but as i type this i am procrastinating, due to the fact i am trying to learn maya before i return to uni for my final year.

I have a few pieces up at jbygrave.carbonmade.com some i like and some i am not so proud of. Let me know what you think as i am always open to criticism.

As for what i want to do when i leave, well the pixar graduate position looks great but unfortunatly it looks great to every 3D animator on the planet, so i think i will do a masters and then start applying for jobs everywhere. I would quite like to make a few short films myself but my skills need to develope a great deal first.

Welcome to the forums, St_Jons! I’m an animation student myself. Just started my third year.

Hi Hannahmation its good to meet another animation student, I’m guessing there may be a few about on this forum.

I just had a quick look at your website (hope you don’t mind), i really like the 2D pieces you have up, learning to draw is something i am very determined to do as i would like to have a go at some traditional animations

Sounds great! Me and a few others on here are also working towards getting a spot in Pixar. I myself only just decided on it about 3 months ago, but I’ve never been more serious about it. I’m dead set on getting my tail inside that studio. I’ve been doing some drawing lately, which you can look at on my deviantArt and a few here on the forums.

I used to be a terrible artist, until I started wanting to develop my artistic ability. Since then, I’ve found myself to be a rather competent artist, and I’m hoping to go to a school called Ringling next Fall.

I’ve hardly used any 3D software at all, but I have Cinema 4D, and the college computers have Maya, so I’m hoping to get to know how to use those some.

That’s my general plan. We’re all hoping to meet up at the studio one day, so maybe we’ll see ya there!

Welcome to Pixar Planet, St_Jons  ! God Bless you for going into animation. It’s a really cool thing to be able to do. I hope it all works out for you one day. And I hope you like it here  !

ffdude1906-

Ditto  . I can’t wait till I can try for a job there! But first I have to finish school and art school (or technical school, whichever) first :unamused: .

Welcome to Picar Planet St. Jons.

Welcome to the boards, St_Jons! You’re definitely in good company here- this has to be the biggest collection of people who want to work at Pixar someday on the internet. Hope you enjoy your time here!

First of all, welcome aboard St_Jons!

Like lizardgirl, Violet Parr, ffdude1906 said, people here do really wanna work for them (Pixar) someday. Even though it’s kinda late, y’know what I mean?
And…yeah, we’re pretty serious about it. Hope we’ll see you there in few years time!

I don’t mind at all and thank you! I took a look at your website as well. You have some pretty neat stuff. I’m still working on improving my drawing skills so all I can say is practice, practice, practice!

Thanks for all the welcomes, and good luck to everyone on their quest for pixar

Thanks St_Jons!

Howdy

I’m Cogstar and I’m from Liverpool, England. I emigrated to the Sunshine Coast, Australia in 2007 and I’d like to say hello to everyone on these fantastic boards.

I decided to join the forum after listening to Radio Pixar and because of my love of Pixar films, Monsters, Inc. and and WALL•E being my favourites.

Well, hi there Cogstar! Welcome to the boards!
Feel free to post something here! And…what’s in your name? Why Cogstar?

Welcome Cogstar! Glad to have you aboard!

Welcome, Cogstar!!! I’m loving that avatar of yours being that I’m a major Cars fan! XD We’re always happy to have new members!

Thank you!

Haha wannabechef91, when my brother was younger, he couldn’t pronounce his 'n’s so he used to call me Cogger. The nickname just evolved into Cogstar, which people do find quite amusing when they are at my house with my family

LightningAndDoc, I love Cars too! I can’t believe some people think it’s Pixar’s weakest film, it’s just brilliant!

Cogstar: LOL. But yeah, you have an awesome name! Cool! And Cars is not the weakest Pixar movie, I cried (last week. After my year-long since Cars viewing) during Sally tell the story of Route 66. Oh I hate James Taylor singing Our Town! Maybe it’s too…well…cliche? Well, IMO.

Yeah, I thought the song didn’t have to be that slow.
But that scene is really sad, especially when they’re all waiting beneath their ‘welcome’ banner and there isn’t anyone driving on Route 66 anymore :frowning:

Hey, Cogstar! Welcome to the Forums!
