I always fall apart when the Giant is in the stratosphere, closes his eyes, and says Superman. I always drown in my tears, and my mom looks at me like a loser. That’s one of the few(very few) movie scenes that never ceases to make me sob.
If anyone still remembers that Duck Dodgers series on Cartoon Network, there was an episode with a robot where they were kind of making fun of the ending to The Iron Giant (twice actually, cause they did it again when the same robot came back in a later episode). I don’t remember being offended though cause I was seeing it as one of those “making fun of ourselves” type jokes because Warner Bros. owns the film.

Your mom does that quite a lot, doesn’t she?
And most people feel touched in that part, so you aren’t wrong.
Yes, she does. Any time I cry or become emotional in a good or bad way in animation, she treats me like a loonie. And I hope they do! That part makes me go all to pieces. <3 So sweet.
The Iron Giant is a great film and showed what Brad was destined for (I hope he directs another animated film agaian Pixar or Disney). Strong story and lesson.
I really like the animation of this film, the time period, and the story. It’s absolutley beautiful.
How would everyone feel if they made a The Iron Giant 2?
Well, better than if Toy Story 4 get’s made, that for sure.
I believe the movie is fine on its own. Brad Bird has moved on from Warner Bros.
Yeah, of course. And it bombed, so it’s very unlikely that they make a sequel. Also, I think the first was nicely closed.
But I don’t have as much attachment to it as with Toy Story, so I would prefer a sequel to this in any case.
And it bombed because of WB having problems at the time, and that meant that the marketing was shoddy. I think that subsequent excellent DVD sales have proven just how well liked it is.
Yes, of course. They didn’t know what they had on their hands.
I think it ended well. Everyone is happy and the Giant’s alive.
That really should be in spoiler space (some people reading this thread may not have seen the film).
I edited it and put it the spoiler tag.
I think you’re right about people who hasn’t seen it.
Thanks.
I remember watching this when I was really little, and it used to freak me out a little bit. Now that I’m older though and have rewatched it I realize what a great movie it is I love it, everything about it <3
It’s a great movie. My dad says it’s boring, but he said that about Wall-E and ABL, so I think I might ignore him.
Pixarfan91: A sequel would be AWFUL.
First off…do NOT get it on DVD. Find it at a local thrift store! The experience will be SO much rewarding! I feel movies that were put on VHS should be watched in the format! A bit off topic, but I collect Don Bluth films and I REFUSE to watch/buy their DVD counter parts *looks at their dvd cases ) Same for any Disney film that came out on VHS first. It MUST be seen what it originaly came out on. Dont have a VHS player? GET ONE! sun glasses The VHS guy has spoken.
On to the topic at hand!
I LOVE this movie for many reasons! The top two being:
1: It was set in New England!
2: It delt with the past.
I think that it was brilliantly done and well thought out.
Plus, ya cant go wrong with Vin Diesel voiceing the Giant!
It really is worth the watch [spoil]ON VHS!!![/spoil] and I recomend it to anyone who has’nt seen it.
Well, they didn’t originally came out in VHS first (except the straight to video features), and definitely weren’t intended to be watched in that format, but in film in a cinema. That’s how they were shot.
From the aspect ratio to the image and audio quality, newer formats are much more similar to the film originals than a VHS copy.
