I just feel that movies that were released on VHS should be watched in that format…my personal opinion that I feel strongly about.
But all of that is just my opinion and me growing up in the age of when VHS was big!
On topic: Another thing that this movie is a fave to me was that it was’nt afraid to take a step up in their “curse” words. We know that hell is a low cuss word, but IG went up one with useing the word [spoil]damn/damnit[/spoil] It just shows that they were’nt too afraid to slip a step up curse word into an animated film.
But that’s the thing. They weren’t originally released on VHS. They were released on film. The quality is much greater in film (besides, you loose a lot of information because of the 4:3 aspect ratio).
They only released them in VHS for home distribution because they didn’t have any other option back then, but now this has changed and you can watch the movies much closer to how they were originally when released in theaters (though even HD still can’t compare to actual film quality).
So you prefer a poor quality VHS image that is undoubtedly cropped, as opposed to the DVD which is in the same aspect ratio as the cinema release and of a far higher quality (sound and video) than the VHS release?
Do you also buy all of your music in the format that it was originally released on?
As someone who prefers his films to be as close to the original as possible, I’m stunned that anyone could stick with a VHS release when the DVD is of a far higher quality.
I really dont wanna argue about my opinion. I dont mind DVD’s…I guess Im just bitter at how they treated Don Bluth films when they were put onto DVD. I coulda sworn up and down that they cut a part from Rock-a-Doodle.
But this is not really a topic to be discussing the likes and dislikes on a personal prefference to view older movies…
I saw someplace in the thread about what if they made an Iron Giant 2.
I would be sorely dissapointed if they did. The film did what it was ment to do. Tell a story and tie it up extreemly well at the end. My only thought is: [spoil]After putting himself together, did the Giant go back to Hogarth?[/spoil]
Oh, no, I’m not arguing about your opinion. Those are personal preferences, all right.
I’m just telling that it’s a mistake to say that they were originally released on that format, cause it’s not true. They were released on film, as I said before, and newer technologies are much closer to it than old VHS.
This very thing makes me surprised that Bird didn’t write it. If you really listen to the dialogue and themes of Bird’s two Pixar films, they’re shockingly adult that it wouldn’t be surprising if there was cussing.
I love movies that are in the past! Especially this one, since it’s during the Cold War and nuclear scare, which is unusual for an animated film. Very unique.
