Anyone
else a fan of Brad Bird’s other masterpiece?
I’ve always loved this movie, but I’m currently OBSESSED
with it.
I’ve even been studying the design and animation of the film’s characters. I LOVE the
style.
This movie never got as much attention as it should’ve back when it was released in theaters. The
Iron Giant makes me laugh, but always leaves me touched. It’s my 2nd favorite movie of all time and a gem in
animation.

It’s been such a long time since I last watched it, but even now, I can remember it as being a, as you said,
touching film, with superb, quirky animation. I really must see it again- I swear I have it on video,
somewhere…
I loved
Iron Giant, but not as much as other movies. I didn’t know Brad Bird directed it until The Incredibles.
I love The Iron Giant . To this day, I still cann’ot watch it without bawling
my eyes out at the end .
Same here. Whenever Hogarth is staring up at the light
that marks where the giant took out the bomb, I get teary eyed.

To
tell you the truth, I actually hated this movie when I first saw it. Seven viewings and a few snippets of
merchandise later, I am now proud to admit that I am an official Iron Giant fan.

Awww.
Why’d you hate it at first?

Heh – I don’t know, really. I think it
was because the film got kind of…“lovey-dovie” near the end (but in a good way!) – and I hate those
kinds of movies.
Heck, I didn’t like The Incredibles when I first saw
it! Call me a weird-o, but…for some reason…it takes me a little while to get used to Brad Bird’s
masterpieces. After a while, though, I get used to it.
The good thing is, I got converted after my aunt
kept watching the thing over and over again every time she came to visit!
Ha
– and I succeed in over-explaining once again!

I saw
it years ago in middle school. It was sooo sweet. I think I cried when he said “Supermaaan…” at the
end.
Saw it half an hour ago, and it
was soooo GREAT! I loved the whole movie, laughed and cried a little at the end… It was so awesome!!
I heard in
the commentary for the Incredibles, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnson was used in the movie. Can anyone tell me what
part exactly?
Yeah they were the train engineers and the witnesses when
the Giant wrecked the train track.

Heheh – I love how Brad Bird incorporates Frank and Ollie into his films.
Didn’t he incorporate his family in the movie too?
Rather than ramble on about it for like, the 3rd time, I’ll simply
state that Michael Bird voiced the boy on the
left:

And is it me, or does the early version of Tony look like the same boy pictured
above in CGI form?..whom I have dubbed “Phony Tony”.

They probably thought it would be cool to incorporate the same Michael character from
The Iron Giant into The Incredibles, but after a second glance, they realized he wasn’t “heartthrobby”
enough.
And so they went back to the drawing board…
And so I rambled off…again.

Lol, actually, you’re right, they do look very similar!

PixarVixen: Haha – I should have figured that you’d find a Tony look-a-like
somewhere in that picture.
What can we say? She loves him. I never noticed that Tony-lookalike in Iron Giant.
I’ve just
watched it for the first time in five years. What have I been missing?! It’s so great!
One question,
though: Cars, with its two mentions of “Hell”, gets PG rated. IG has
multiple instances of “Hell”, “God”, “Damn”, references to death and
smoking, yet it’s rated U. What’s up with that?
I think
that the rating system has become a lot more strict recently, compared to how it was several years ago.
