The Lion of Judah

Kung Pow: Enter the Chicken

Well, seeing that we’ve got a lot of Christians here on this forum, I thought this little independent animated film might interest y’all…

Apple Trailer

… or not! It’s pretty telling that the modeling and texturing here is Video Briquendo-level atrocious, the narrator tries too hard to make it sound like a masterpiece, and there will probably be a lot of immature slapstick scenes (Not that I actually mind that, if done well).

And for the second trailer, it’s one one of the worst I’ve ever seen for a follow-up trailer! I can think of many reasons:

 • It’s released on the same day of the theatrical release of its subject, which defeats its purpose if it was meant to drum pre-release hype.
 • It repeats scenes from the first trailer.
 • It’s essentially a clip, but it’s named as a 2nd trailer.
 • It tells nothing about the story whatsoever, other than there will be a dancing chicken that will amuse and terrify his friends in equal measure.
 • There is no punchline at the end (“Why would I want to do thaaat?”).

BUT as terrible as this all sounds, it has some pretty decent character animation, a sound plot (instead of Briquendo’s nonsensical rip-offs), and it has Michael Madsen of Driv3r fame as one of the voice actors!

I don’t even think it’s getting a release here, but I want to watch it because I’m always willing to give films the benefit of the doubt and I’ve watched similarly contentious animated fare like ‘Roadside Romeo’ and ‘Ratatoiing’. If anything, I expect this little film to attain cult-status in a ‘so-bad-it’s-good’ sorta way!

Or as Mater would say, “If I’m 'lion, I’m crying!”

What do ewe think?

I wanted to start a topic on this, but I figured it could get me banned.

Not if you’re polite about it and aware about people’s sensitivities about religion. Besides, this is about a movie, and it’s perfectly fine to write criticisms about the movie itself. We would tell you to remove it or do it ourselves if we think it is controversial or anything. Banning is only as a last resort if someone continually harasses other members or writes spam and/or obviously derogatory posts, or ignores Mods requests. Even then, Mods would warn the offender several times first, so everyone has second (or third, or fourth) chances.

I don’t like how it’s portraying lamb slaughtering.

I’m confused by your statement, because at no point in the trailer did it mention anything about lamb slaughter. Perhaps there was some in the original story, but the movie might take a different approach.

The press release I read online says it’s about a lamb escaping from the slaughter during Passover.

Haha, well it escaped didn’t it?

I have no problem with lamb slaughtering. It’s a cultural and religious thing. And lamb is delicous! I’ve seen pig slaughters with my own eye, and was unflinched. But yeah, defintely not the BEST scene to be added in an animated movie that is marketed for an audience under ten years of age.

…Is it safe for me to say that I think this film, regardless of whether or not it intends to, will portray the Hebrews (as they were called) in a negative light?

You are entitled to that opinion. But perhaps it would be best to see the film first before making a conclusion.

Exactly. And I don’t think it’s ‘safe to say’ much about this movie, espeically about Hebrews and how they’re shown. I mean, we don’t have a lot of information about it as it is, how can one draw conclusions with so little?

Well, I’m not very interested. I’ve never even heard of this movie. 8D

I am rather morbidly curious as to how this movie is- has anyone seen it? I’m guessing it will be pretty bad though.

I mean Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Prince of Egypt and Joseph King of Dreams kind of prove that religious based films can be GOOD and all if in the right hands but I don’t have high hope for this. At all.

It appears The Lion of Judah is available only via church screenings:

There are a couple of reviews on IMDb, indicating its limited theatrical release in the States.
