The Little Mermaid

I gotta say, even though it’s twenty years old the Little Mermaid still dazzles me every time I see it. here’s to twenty years of opening people’s mind and starting the golden age of Disney  Congratulations!

I’ve gotta see that movie again sometime soon! It’s been perhaps years since I’ve last enjoyed it. It’s one of the best Disney Classics, hilarious Sebastian, Chef Louie, and other characters, beautiful and catchy music, amazing animation (as all Disney Classics have), and the part with Poor Unfortunate Souls keeps my eyes on the screen the whole time even though I get creeps! I love that film and will never get too old for it.

The Little Mermaid is a classic that will always be considered one of Disney’s Greatest Animated films. It was so beautiful and at the same time, the music and activg was so incredible.

That was always my favorite disney movie as a child (As you can tell by my fanfiction The Little Clownfish)

I used to have a little mermaid comforter, flounder and sebastian stuffed animals, barbies, you name it!

I used to carry around the Sebastian stuffed animal everywhere I went like Linus (In the Peanuts) did with his blanket. It was years until I stopped!

He was always my favorite character!

The songs are amaizing as well! I’ve sang Part of Your World at voice lessons and loved it. I’ve also played Under the Sea at a piano recital!

I honestly don’t know how it is humanly possible to hate this movie.

The animation was great for the time, The story line was creative, it was funny and entertaining, and had great voice actors/actresses.

Well, I give this movie 2 big thumbs up!

HelloDolly114: I can see you really love this movie! Playing Under the Sea on the piano sounds like fun! I’ve been trying to play that song by my ears for a long time, and I still haven’t gotten everything down. I’ll bet it beats playing classical music on the piano.

Me, too. Although there are some people who are misled into thinking that it’s just a full-length cartoon for kids and make fun of the songs. Grrr…I hate how naiive they are and yet they say I’m the one “missing out on the good entertainment”?! (the same happened with when I saw Hercules). I didn’t think people who missed out on Classic Disney even existed, but they do, and it’s a shame they don’t know what they’re missing. sigh.

Okay, sorry for the little rant there…

By they way, I keep thinking of Camp Rock as a sort of modernized, twisted ripoff of The Little Mermaid.

I mean, think about this. Both movies feature a girl wanting something more in her life. Okay, that plot’s kinda wide and open, and full of different possibilities.

But don’t forget that she finally gets what she wants- and also involved in the movie is a guy that’s part of what she wants. AND both movies involve a scene with the girl and the guy on a boat, and music.

AND here’s the part that totally reminded me of TLM: The guy falls in love with a mysterious girl’s voice, unaware that it’s the same girl he befriended earlier.

Of course, we all agree that The Little Mermaid is waaaayyyy better. Right? Even if you like Camp Rock, there’s no denying that Disney Classic would beat it any day.

Oh my goodness, that is absolutely horrible.

I don’t watch those kinds of movies, because they just outright annoy me, but this is really sad. :frowning:

I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen The Little Mermaid… I’m sure it was a looooong time ago, though. I don’t see how anyone could hate it, as HelloDolly114 said. It really isn’t humanely possible. This Disney Classic is as relevant to the history of animation as 9/11 is to American history. (Okay, kind of weird comparison, but oh well…)

little chef

Oh my gosh… this film brings back wonderful memories.
Probably one of the first animated films I remember watching and loving… and also the first in the line of Disney-renaissance-era films of the 90s.
The most memorable sequence that comes straight to mind is strangely Chef Louis’ chase after Sebastian in the kitchen. I guess it must be the Tom and Jerry dynamics that interested me as a kid.
And my word, the finale with Ursula was so scary when I was a kid! :open_mouth:
I can still play ‘Under the Sea’ on piano. Apparently Sebastian is Jamaican and that song was a summary of their ‘live life, play hard’ work ethic. Heh.
Aw man, I should watch it again sometime.

I last watched The Little Mermaid a very, very long time ago but I did definitely love it as a kid. Sebastian was always my favourite character and Ursula is a very effective villainess, though really, really scary! It’s not one of my favourite classic Disney films nowadays, but I really ought to watch it again.

I really love The Little Mermaid. The characters, the music, the story and the animation were just splendid, probably the perfect movie to begin the era of the new Golden Age. It’s impossible to hate this movie. Although I wasn’t hapy after watching the re-release in 1998 which is no surprise, considering that they re-dubbed the movie and gave the characters no charm and changing the text (and the voices of the first German dubbing were all lovely). Sebastian and Scuttle are just funny (I even call a fork a dinglehopper sometimes^^) and Ursula and her poopsies are nice villans. Not to forget Ariel, the first Disney Princess who did something to get her prince (alright Cinderella did something, too, but not much).

I love The Little Mermaid! A true classic Disney film! The story is great, the songs are great, and the animation is great! I watched The Little Mermaid last year when I was on a classic Disney kick. Really want to watch it again soon! Have been listening to the music from it and other classic Disney films recently though. Favorite would have to be Under the Sea. Love Sebastian!

I love Sebastian too! He’s always been my favorite character. When I was younger I would call him “Rastian” though because I couldn’t pronounce his name!

Little Mermaid was the first movie I really got into. Honestly, I dont remember seeing it in theaters, but I remember watching the tape a lot and being totally mermaid crazy for awhile. I still love this movie! Sebastian, for one thing, I really like a lot.

The Little Mermaid holds a special place in my heart…This was the first movie I ever saw in the theater and it was just the most amazing thing ever. I remember singing “Under the Sea” and “Part of this World” over and over and over again…
