The Princess and the Frog

It’s very nice for 2D…it has the original touch from Aladdin and The Little Mermaid but is still modern in color and technology. It actually almost caught my interest with that later trailer.

Oh, I sure hope so! I am really getting fed up with some of the music nowadays that Disney’s put out! Whatever happened to the music of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid? Hercules?

I really hope this has some good musical numbers!

I can’t wait to see (or hear) Randy’s music in a princess movie! Whenever I think of Randy Newman, I think of Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and Cars. It’s going to be very interesting to see what he does with the music.

Well, there’s no doubt about it that the 2-D team is still in business. Heh. Freakin’ animation is gorgeous. That said, I’ll reserve judgement on the quality of the story until I see it this December…

I second this…

This better be good. I’m sure it will.

Ironically, it was Pixar that started the trend of playing the music in the background instead of having the characters sing it like a musical. Originally the song ‘I Will Go Sailing No More’ was supposed to be sung by Buzz, but Mr. Lasseter favoured it being played as the soundtrack with Buzz lips sealed. Little trivia (or not, since y’all are Pixar fans) from The Pixar Touch.
But, heck, yeah! I’m lookin’ forward to good ol’ fashioned musicals again!
My friend forced me to see the trailer at school a few days ago (“You’ve gotta see this”, he said and started playing the Apple trailer), but we couldn’t turn up the volume because it was in class, so I only saw the visuals, but by jove, they were fantastic! I’ll watch the proper trailer at home with the volume up after assignments tomorrow and give a proper assessment, but I’m sure it’ll be favourable. I’ll still be a fan even if I never see the trailer!

Unfortunately, seeing the trailer in HD has revealed an amazingly large spoiler. During the sequence with the swirling liquid the two frogs can be seen kissing.

Yeah, Geoff CB, I’m a little miffed that the new trailer is rife with spoilers, especially the one where [spoil]she turns into a frog after kissing Naveen[/spoil]. That was the whole premise of the movie, which they managed to keep under wraps, and I was never expecting that! :open_mouth:

Anyway, here’s my little review of the trailer.

Do not read the below lines until you’ve watched the trailer. If you have, go on ahead.

I like the firework sparks drawing the characters from the classics. Great nod to the oldies!

I seen the opening scene of Naveen’s entrance and explaining his predicament to Tiana from the leaked Lasseter interview 1-2 weeks ago, but it’s still refreshing to see it in its original form.

I like Tiana’s reaction upon seeing her reflection. Wait for it… scream

Obligatory glimpses of epic shots with choir and orchestral music… many, many spoilers ahead…

After the shot of Louis the alligator walking across the log, we see Naveen and Tiana in a carriage waving to the crowd, possibly already king and queen.

After Tiana hops on the ‘A113’ express, we see a cathedral wedding shot.

Does anyone know what was screamed at the end before the title card? “They call me… Luuucciiieee…”

Facilier seems to be featured a lot; I hope he’s an epic addition to the proud-standing line of Disney villains. I wonder what his motivation will be.

Is the dancing, singing guy in the beret and tie Prince Naveen? What’s he doin’ in civilian clothes? Reminds me of Princess Jasmine…

And of course, the closing scene “That’s New” was seen in the Lasseter interview.

Overall, I’m very excited to see this film (as always) but I wished they hadn’t shown the marriage and kissing scenes. :frowning:

Um, you may want to go over your post and cover up more spoilers.

The comments were on shots from the trailer, so I wouldn’t really call them spoilers unless you haven’t seen the trailer…
I’ve placed a massive disclaimer before the review anyway just to be safe; thanks for the advice!

I cannot wait for this movie. I just saw the trailer and its awesome! I already am liking the vilian, and Tiana has a GORGEOUS design! The only thing that bothers me is that cajun firefly…hopefully, he won’t be that bad.

I noticed all the spoilers in the trailer also. I think Disney should have tried to tone down on that, but, whatever. I am more excited to listen to Randy’s music. I heard the first song for the movie (the one we hear in the teaser trailer) and it sounds so peppy and jazzy. I’m sure they will do a good job on this movie (hopefully).

Thought I’d jump in with my two cents on this. First, I’m really happy to see a full trailer at last! Second, as much as I love CG animation (obviously), I’m pretty excited to see Disney going back to their roots - it totally brings back me back to my childhood. Third, regarding the spoilers, I think that [spoil]when Princess Tiana turns into a frog, the story concentrates on the adventure they go on to turn them both back into humans[/spoil]. It’s just a neat little twist on the classic fairytale. And, finally, that poster is absolutely gorgeous!

Is this what you’re referring to, Ragdollcorpse?
I can’t wait to hear the original non-live version of “Down in New Orleans” too!

Just wanted to share these new images that popped up from the movie:

I love the pic of her and Prince Naveen on the raft - her facial expression is awesome and you can kinda get a sense of their personalities just from looking at it. I also REALLY like the one with Tiana and her parents - adorable! I’m getting really excited for the movie now!

Awesome! I totally can’t wait for this!

I have actually been wanting to watch this one. Hopefully, with this seemingly promising movie, Disney could bounce back to the days of The Lion King.

I think it has potential to bring Disney back to its glory days. Ron Clements and John Musker are responsible for one of my favorite Disney movies - The Little Mermaid. It was the first movie I ever saw in theaters and it totally mesmerized me. Those two have pretty amazing animated storytelling abilities, so I have high hopes that they’ll mesmerize me again with TPATF.

Me too. Disney really needs to get their act back together and make some films that Walt himself would be proud of…

Wow, it’s probably the first animated film I remember watching (though not on theatres, but on good ol’ VHS)! Yup, it’s a classic.

Yeah, I’m excited and nervous for this one. There’s a lot at stake here…

Yeah, there is. This movie has to be good or else everyone’s going to think 2D is dead. If the movie doesn’t go well the style of the movie will get blamed, as opposed to the story.
