Here’s something that slid under the radar screen:

From the article: “The Lion King director Roger Allers has signed on to adapt and direct The Prophet, an animated film Salma Hayek’s Ventanarosa Productions will produce…”
Based on the films on which some of the collaborators have worked, it’s a fair guess that this could be hand-drawn animation.
Wow, that sounds awesome!! And what a list of names there. I’m very interested. Thanks for sharing, Steve!
The Lion King alone gives Allers a great track record, but IMHO, that film is more Rob Minkoff’s achievement than Allers’.
^ That sounds reasonable, especially if the chronology was that Allers was more the “starting” director, and Minkoff was the “relief” director–rather like on Brave, with Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews. And speaking of Ms. Chapman, surely she had a hand in shaping The Lion King along with Allers and Minkoff. Also, Minkoff has helmed several features since TLK, whereas Allers has been either a “starting” director or a co-director of features.
As for The Prophet, it appears that Allers’s role is to be a sort of managing director who integrates work by other directors into a finished whole. That could be daunting, with egos flying around all over. Let’s hope the inspirational subject matter informs the work process and everyone pulls together for a harmonious film. Otherwise, Salma Hayek might have to kick some butt–wouldn’t want to be on her bad side!
