'The Secret of NIMH' Remake?

I respect a lot of people’s opinion that ‘Nimh’ is Bluth’s opus, but personally I feel that ‘A Troll In Central Park’ is his superior film. Thoughts on the remake?

NO REMAKE :imp:  :imp: :imp:

It was so far off the book. The sequel was even worse. I would like to see the remake, if it stayed more true to the book. No magic or amulet at all, please.

I think with just about any movie (especially animated one) if you compare it to the original book/story you’ll see it often doesn’t look anything like it (don’t tell the kiddies, but the real Little Mermaid doesn’t end so happy…)

I liked Secret of NIMH. It wasn’t the animated movie to end all animated movies, but considering how well it was made, from animation to effects to soundtrack (great score by Goldsmith) – and how it was made (a lot of it in a garage) – and what Disney and all other films were looking like at the time… it gets four stars from me. Not having read the original book (with a slightly different title if I remember right), I don’t have anything to compare it to except itself, but I thought it was a nice piece of work… for my opinion, better than anything Bluth would make later on, I feel.

I finally saw “NIMH” a month or so ago and the animation is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. That said, the animation is not enough to save it. The writing is confused at times and humorless all the time. The only other saving grace is Justin, who is now my favorite non-Disney animated character. I would even make the argument that Justin’s actions in the film are more heroic than Mrs. Brisby’s.

I still need to see the original. Heard great stuff about it, such as how it had really nice animation and effects. I’m a big fan of Don Bluth’s work too, so I’ll be sure to check it out soon!

I’d like to see a remake too, because I do really like media with talking animals. Also, rats.

I love the original film a lot, even if I know it’s not especially faithful to the book. Maybe it’s just me but I largely liked it because it wasn’t a very humorous movie—it was almost solemn in tone. A great change of pace for American animation. I’d really only like to see a remake if they keep a similar tone and character designs. The artistry was phenomenal!

I prefer serious dark animated movies. don’t get me wrong, I love movies like Toy Story and Hercules. But personally, I see a lack of slapstick as an advantage in this case. It isn’t a funny story. I think a remake is a bad idea. Just a cash-in.

^I have to say I agree. I’d only want it done if they totally preserved that tone.
There are very few animal-starring movies these days that aren’t slapstick fests.
