Now, I thought this idea could be fun. Just a little chance to let your imaginations run wild - and for the fanartists and fanfic writers, this could be a great place to get some ideas.
Basically, if you have any theories about the Toy Story movies, any ‘what-if’ ideas, feel free to post them in this thread. People could discuss them, maybe create something out of them - anything goes.
Here are a couple of mine :
Theory - Some toys (a la Buzz Lightyear and Zurg) appear to believe that they’re the real deal upon ‘awakening’ for the first time. Perhaps Woody and some other toys shared this little ‘phase’ for a brief period when they were just bought - or maybe only Buzz and other heavily gadgeted toys.
I think only sci-fi toys seem to have this ‘delusion’ because their creators may have been incredibly hung-up on imagination.
What if - Andy figured out the toys were sentient? Would everything change, or would the toys refuse to be any more alive that he believes them to be?
Interesting ideas, nett1k. I’ve always wondered just how far a toy can be physically damaged before it can be ‘killed’. I know it’s a bit of a morbid thought, though, but it does seem like toys can withstand a lot, especially considering how much Sid mutilates his toys. Then that leads onto thinking about toys left in dumps and that sort of thing, and how long the average lifespan of a toy is.
And concerning the idea of Andy finding out that his toys are sentient, I think that would change things dramatically, no matter how attached he is to them (though this obviously depends on his age- if he found out when he was younger, then he’d be more inclined just to enjoy the fact and have fun with his new friends, but if he found out around the time of Toy Story 3, he’d react rather differently). Either way, I’d suspect that Andy would be pretty scared at first. He might get used to the idea eventually, but knowing about it would probably plague him his whole life and I can imagine him ending up as one of those guys who tries to convince people that UFOs are real or, in this case, toys are alive.
I’d say toys could definitely put up with a lot… I could say that toys perhaps ‘died’ as soon as someone knew they were sentient, but that theory’s disproved with Sid. Toys could definitely last a long time - look at Jessie, she’s been around for two childhoods or even longer, depending on the time-span between being donated to charity and being found by Al.
As for how much toys can withstand, I have no idea. Even a head being separate from a body doesn’t mean death… and it’s evident that everyone takes a beating at the daycare centre and (more morbidly) Sid’s room. Maybe until they’re completely beyond repair? In shreds? (I don’t really wanna think about that…)
I guess we’d have to know more about Andy’s grown-up personality to figure that one out. Initial reaction would most likely be shock, but yeah… long-term would perhaps result in being a bit unstable. XD
That would be interesting. If they toy manufacturers knew the toys were alive, how would they feel about giving them to kids who would eventually grow out of them? If that was the case, maybe they’d provide a place for toys to come back to as a last resort? (I’m gettin’ ahead of myself, here.)
1when buzz is not deludad anymore, he becomes weak? in toy story 1 he manages to defeat woody easy, but in toy story 2, andys buzz is easily defeated by deludad buzz number 2, what do you guys think.
2what if woody have go to japan along with jessie , stinky pete and bullseye , and andys toys have to go rescue him on japan?
3 in ts3[spoil] buzz is resseted and he lose his memorys, that means he archieves his memorys in a computer chip, then how the other toys(like woody) aree able to remember things, do they have computer chips too?[/spoil]
EDIT- Please do not reveal possible spoilers about upcoming Pixar films without using spoiler tags, thanks!
Very interesting question, 1986. I think that toy manufacturers probably don’t know that toys are alive and that it all happens by ‘magic’ rather than anything that the toy manufacturers actually know about. Perhaps a few individuals might have discovered that toys are alive and it has become a trade secret of sorts? If toy manufacturers were aware of all of this, then there would probably be lots of scientific experiments on toys to try and figure out how they’re able to live. Or perhaps it’s all some sort of secret conspiracy.
lord_zedd- Responding to the points you’ve made-
Well, Buzz defeating Woody is not really comparable to Buzz trying to defeat a fellow Buzz, as it’s a reasonable assumption that Woody, being a softer, more maleable toy, is weaker than Buzz. So for Buzz to beat Woody, whether or not he’s deluded, would be very easy whilst for Buzz to beat another Buzz would always be more difficult.
I like that idea! It would’ve extended Toy Story 2 quite a bit, but it would’ve been quite the adventure.
I’m not quite sure about this, as we’re not really aware at this moment as to how [spoil]Buzz’s memory is resetted (or rather, I’m not aware, having avoided any clips and spoilers of Toy Story 3) but I don’t think the Buzz toys have memory chips. I’m not quite sure how Buzz’s memory works or how any of the toys’ memories work in the same way that it’s difficult to figure out how they respire and that sort of thing, so I don’t know why Buzz starts to speak Spanish and is ‘resetted’. Maybe he had faulty wiring? [/spoil]
These aren’t exactly theories and what ifs based solely within the Toy Story Universe, but they are my predictions and hypotheses for overall film of Toy Story 3.
Theory: The Toy Story 3 credits will end in a very flamenco- mariachi inspired rendition of “You’ve Got A Friend In Me”. Besides sounding unbelievably awesome, I think this would be hilarious to hear and would fit perfectly into the whole Spanish Buzz theme.
What If: The new short that accompanied TS3 was a sequel as well (like Luxo Jr. 2, or for that matter The Adventures of Andre and Wally B)? They are making a Toy Story 3, PIXAR isn’t against making sequels, and I personally would love to see an official Luxo Jr. 2.
And nett1k WOW! I just realized your Avatar was a gif from Don Hertzfeldt’s short Rejected! That is so unbelievably cool, you have the best Avatar ever!
