Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

What? crap. I could have borrowed money if I knew about that sale…

Edit: pic time.

New smaller ring.

Bullseye.

I didnt anticipate how hard it would be to balance him on the saddle, took forever, and even then I didn’t feel comfortable leaving him up there. He was falling over as I was taking pics. and bullseye has a tendency to lean left.

Heres a pic of my whole collection as it stands right now.

Edit: every since Ive replaced the ring Woody’s been talking without having his string pulled. sometimes its while I’m handling him, other times Im at the other end of the room, not touching him at all. Anyone have a solution to this?
I had to snip a few millimeters off when replacing the ring, but didn’t think that would be enough to change anything. There seemed to be some leeway with how much you had to pull the string before it would activate itself.

I went ahead and turned him off for now. which, by the way ended up tearing out the fragile stitching holding his vest flaps in palce. my first Woody never even had them, but I was hoping to keep the ones on my new one in. :frowning:

Its not that bad, but still.

Nice collection Kyle! A lot bigger than mine! (I only have Lenny the binoculars from Burger King.)

It seems as though everybody is switching to a smaller ring. I’ll have to do that when I get Woody.

I actually like that about it. (not the shipping… the resin), because in Andy’s world, he was a piggy bank… which are usually made of ceramic or similar and are in fact breakable, not toys.

If this really is supposed to be a “definitive” Toy Story Collection like Thinkway claim it is, important characters really shouldnt be missed out. The rights to Slinky are owned by another company, who produce and sell the one readily available on the market already, but then the same could have been said for potato head. Owned by Playskool, the toy had been produced in alternate ways by the company eversince Toy Story’s release. But they allowed Thinkway to produce a film-accurate version. So Slinky is, i suppose, still a possibility.
But if this really is meant to be a proper Toy Story Collection then how can Thinkway not produce characters like Slinky, Hamm, Mrs Potato Head? Their absence in the collection would be really obvious. Sure, there are other versions of them out already, but to make this a proper “definitive” collection, then surely they’d need to be included???

You can find them at Joann’s Craft Store. Just find an employee and ask them for 1" Plastic rings for windows/curtains. The rings I got were made for curtains and drapery, so that’d be your best bet. I spent a LONG time searching for them up and down every isle, they are in different sizes for different purposes. Ask for rings for windows, and get 1" and you’ll be set. It’s about $2.40 without a coupon (check your paper, if you can. They have 40% off almost every week) it’s definently worth it.

And Kyle, why did you have to trim the string size? I just carefully un-tied it and didn’t need to cut it at all. I thought I would, but I didn’t. Either way, your Sheriff shouldn’t be effected by such a short amount. My advice, don’t know if i’d work, but get his battery compartment out, and pull his string all the way. While it’s out, turn him off. Then turn him back on, and let the string go. It may re-set the string, because i’ve noticed it is activated by the string going in not coming out. Try intervals of pulling the string and turning him off, that’s the best suggestion. Hope he gets to working!

Also, if you have the reciept, and you bought Bullseye within about a day or two they may be cool and let you get your half off. I really wish I had the cash to do that, I really need Buzz and the Spud head. And Jessie… And Bullseye… and… Rex…

The Hamm we have now is more accurate thank thinkway would likely give us, at least in terms of materials. I would want the thinkway Hamm only if he had his head straight. but I also know it would be electronic. As we’ve heard, lack of retailer intrest is what killed their version of Hamm from releasing, I assume no one wants to pay for a 50 dollar glorified biggy bank. you might argue that they wouldnt have to make it electronic, but I think their the type of company that wouldnt make it unless it was extra special somehow.

We’ve been over the slink issue before, it has nothing to do with copyright. They likely wont make an accurate slink because it would to too expensive to produce.

You know they moved the string? because when they had it on his collar he would topple over as he was too light. so they would have to make him heavier. he also needs to be heavier if you’d want to stretch him out while standing up.

Bring in receipt and Return/rebuy, you bought it within the sale date so you wont have a problem.

I tried my hardest to untie the end but the glue they put on the end made it seem like an impossible task. I now wish I had stuck with it longer.

Turns out I cut more more than I originally thought, piecing the bits together it looks like nearly 2 inches. :frowning:

I’m not sure what to do now. I don’t think I can simply lengthen the string, a knot of any kind probably wouldn’t fit through the hole. the string will probably need to be replaced. I think there’s a tutorial about replacing or fixing the pull string on older model woody’s, but not sure if the same method works on the new one.

A time machine would really come in handy about now.

As for the sale, I think that’s what I’ll do. bring in the receipt. the cashiers have been very cool to me in the past. (allowing me to use multiple coupons to get the toy stories and princess and the frog blu rays for 6 bucks)

Just hope they have some good Jessie’s left.

Actually in the offical guide to Toy Story 1 and 2 it specifically says that Hamm is made out of a durable plastic and definitely not ceramic.

C’mon how else would he have survived falling down an elevator shaft (not the whole way but still) and Sunnyside Daycare?

NOT to hijack a conversation, but does anybody else notice how the normal buzz doesn’t say “there’s a secret mission…in uncharted space” while the new utility belt version does? it just bugs me because that was the specific phrase in the fake commercial from the movie

Was able to take advantage of the Toys R Us sale and picked up Jessie half off.
Also bought Woody a new stand from AC Moore.

post piks pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Edit your post. You stretched out the page.

Having some trouble keeping it up high enough, probably should have gone with a taller stand, but this was all they had. it keeps being pulled down from the weight of Woody. stretching out the metal piece helps a little, but not completely.

That’s the exact metal stand that they sell at Michaels as well. I went with the Wooden one, since I think it fits more with the “Cowboy” feel. Bad part is, the wooden ones elevate him from the ground.

My stand has the same issue, (Notice it holds him much better without his hat on…) What you do to help, is hold up Woody to the stand, and where you want the prongs to hold him up. Then you find something that’s the same size from the bottom of the metal wire, and the base of the stand. Stick that in the gap, and it will hold Woody up just fine. Since we have different stands, it’s probably not going to matter… but I used one of those File clips with the prongs taken out.

Pull string operation was a success! (Thanks to Tyler H’s advice)

Now, before I cut the excess string and tie off for good, does anyone know the exact length the string is intended to be? or an approx even? I’ll ask around on other boards too to weight in.

But 3 good things came from this. I now have a smaller ring, longer string, and its thinner. All adds up to more accuracy.

I’ve been doing some research for this, actually. With the extra rings, I picked up some Cord at the craft store to match Woody’s pull string to re-enact when Woody gets his ring caught on the Staircase frame waking Scud, and when he uses it for “Woody’s Finest Hour” on the airplane.

Taking references from both scenes… I’ve found that the string should be about 3.5 times as long (Not counting what’s inside him) as his torso. Which would make it just short of 7 inches when pulled out as far as it’ll go. If you don’t mind me asking, Kyle what exactly did you to to the Sheriff? Glad to know he’s back in working order too.

EDIT: Alright, I just had to post this. I feel more like Sid than ever. I was fiddling with his Vest, because i’m trying to fix the poped stitching since I still haven’t gotten any response from Thinkway yet.

So since I was pulling the vest off, it pulled the string out. So I figured "Oh, he’s gonna start talking better turn him off. He was in the middle of “This town 'aint big enough for the two of us…” and I pulled the patch open… The switch said off. He was mid-phrase. If his head starts turning… :open_mouth:

Are you asking me how I broke him, or fixed him? while replacing the ring I couldn’t get the original string untied, it was glued in pretty tied, so I resorted to snipping what I assumed was only a few millimeters, turned out to be about 2 inches, which means any slight movement would trigger him, with or without me pulling the string.

To fix it I bought some “Fashion Crochet string” which seems to be the same thickness as a kite string. I pulled the original string all the way out, and tied the new string into a single knot, as tight as I possibly could, put a drop of crazy glue on to make sure it was secure. (its important to not over do this step, my first attempt made it so the knot wouldn’t fit inside the hole anymore) . in order to get the knot to fit in through the hole I used pliers to pinch it, make it as compact as possible, and once it went through I pulled it back out to cut the old string.

I made sure to keep rings on both strings the entire time to avoid slipping and having the string get sucked down into the hole. I cut the old string only when I knew it was safe, and the new one would hold up.

Anyway, just short of 7 inches you say? I moved the ring to that, but does anyone else want to weigh in? Want to be certain before I actually cut it for good. I don’t see me attempting to do this again.

Edit: and yes, can someone please edit the page stretching post? its driving me nuts.

I meant how you fixed him, you already posted about the first part. But it sounds great, how you were able to fix him, and make him more film-accurate at the same time. Clever of you (and Tyler) to tie a new string to the old one to fit inside the hole. I was thinking you would open up the electronics all the way and replace the string, but of course what you did is much, much better. Do you think you could post a pic of the new Pull String pulled? I wouldn’t mind seeing the new string to compare to the original.

Were you able to make the new string as long as the one in the film, or the length of the original? I’m not sure if the design would let you have more string or not. Of course since it’s smaller, it might work.

I can post pics, sure. I kinda wanted to wait until I clipped the excess first though, which I haven’t done for the reason stated in my last post.

The design allows for extra string, yes. Right now I have the string at about 9 inches (I don’t want to actually measure right now, don’t want to get him going again, or turn him off, haha, so I’m just estimating), and it goes all the way in. Its worth noting that there’s hardly any tension by the time it pulls the ring up with that much length, but it is enough. its just looser is all.
