Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

The shorter/faster pull string makes me wonder, is it even a real pull-string mechanism, or is it all electronic with just basically a cosmetic pull string? I’d think if the string were functional, the string would have to take the entire time of the recorded phrase to retract, because it’s the string motion that’s DRIVING the voicebox.

Pardon me for asking, but why are you buying so many duplicate toys? Six Woody dolls is more than even the typical collector’s “one in the box, one to play with” MO. Of course, price aside, I could never do even that—just got my one Woody doll, and I could never leave him to languish in the box. I’m surprised to see so many of you learned so little from watching Toy Story 2. Toys want to be played with—leaving them in the box turns them twisted and evil!

Maybe he wants to raise an army of evil Woody dolls and invade the planet?

We have Family in Vietnam. They are gifts for those in our family who are not as fortunate as we are. i am unable to bring my family to America so when we go home we bring gifts for cousins, neices and nephews, as well as friends. any other Asians (or people married to immigrants) on this post will understand. My wife has not seen her family in about seven years and we will be making our first trip back in December. Toy story is pretty popular in vietnam but the toys are out of reach for most people due to cost and availability. so there.

anyhow, does anyone know why there was a design change.

It’s not. They phased out of pull-string toys in the early 80’s. Even the original Woody was a fake pull-string. Plus, the moment batteries are included that should be the biggest indicator that it’s not a genuine pull-string.

Just wondering if u guys actually play with ur TSC? Everytime i pick mines up i get scared i am going to tear something like andy did with woody or drop buzz like when buzz tried to fly in sids house.

Also i just opened my buzz and the stickers are VERY loose, is that normal with everyones?

There’s a certain quality to the Toy Story Collection, and I’m not afraid. In fact, nothing’s happened to me so far. I’m somewhat afraid of ruining the delicate paint job on Woody’s head, but the way I see it, everything was made for play. After all, Thinkway is a toy company.

I got my first Toy Story Collection piece today: the Bucket O Soldiers. $12.97 (not including tax) at Wal Mart.

All right, all right, I figured they were for gifts or something. That’s all I was really asking. You sound pretty distressed by it, I’m sorry the situation is so hard on you. Enjoy your trip and seeing your family, I’m sorry if I offended.

When I took Woody out of the box, I couldn’t resist playing around with him and posing him (and . . . cuddling him . . . just a bit . . ). But it’s not the same rough play as a kid would do. I have Woody sitting up on a shelf now, but I’m not afraid to handle him or let (adult) guests play with him. If I wanted something that wasn’t for touching, I’d get a framed picture, not a cuddly rag doll.

I guess the one thing I’m a little concerned about is the connection between the leg and the boot, 'cause I don’t know how that works (glue? stitching?) and if it’s possible to put too much strain on it.

One thing that DOES happen is his hat pretty much comes off if you so much as look at it funny. I have to imagine the “real” Woody’s hat is a much snugger fit, because it stays on through hell and high water (except when the story dictates that it come off :stuck_out_tongue:). I did cram in a couple folded tissues to make his hat look right (it sits much higher on his head in the movies).

I use kneaded rubber eraser that I have lying around. it not only allows the hat to sit higher, but also serves as a glue of sorts, without leaving any kind of residue.

on the tsc woody…are his jeans made out of actual jean material? and also has any one thought of stone-washing/lightening them out?

also dose anyone have both the tsc woody and the playtime sheriff woody? im trying to find photos of them side by side so i can decide on which one i will be getting,

Yes, they’re real denim, though I can’t think of how you could “distress” them without damaging the rest of the doll. . . . Do it the way Andy did, play hard with him and send him on hair-raising adventures for about 11 years! If your doll is still in one piece at the end, its jeans will be faded the way Woody’s are in TS3.

Some people have talked about the paint on his hair flaking off—mightn’t a kneaded eraser pull up some of the paint? If not, that’s not a bad idea, I’m tired of chasing his hat every time I shift him on the shelf.

Oh yeah, and Kyle, I love seeing your photos of your collection. Please take more  Maybe one of Woody and Bo Peep, if you have her? Don’t think the old Bo Peep toy is to scale with the TSC Woody and co., unfortunately. Especially after seeing TS3, I wish they would release a new to-scale Bo Peep figure so [spoil]we could reunite them. BIG SNIFF [/spoil]

I haven’t noticed any paint coming off yet… its not a a very strong hold or anything.

And I don’t own a Bo Peep.

Edit: wrong thread.

What?

i just opened my buzz and the stickers are VERY loose, is that normal with everyones?

i think he ment to post that in the “How come Andy, and other humans never hear the toys talk?” thread.

it is a common quality control problem, if you contact jenny from thinkway, they will send you a new sheet of sticker for buzz.

The heck, how did that get here…yeah I meant to post that there. must have lost track of my tabs. heh

What exactly are you looking for? I mean, TSC Woody has just about every advantage when it comes to details. Except for the badge and spurs.

well, im still deciding on which one to get, and the play time seriff just seems to have a better look to him…what i mean is the coloring of his clothing seems much closer to the film (even the coth they use for his jeans looks better imo) but i havent seen a tsc woody up close at all (since they are rarely at the target and walmarts are around me) but i really need to see comparison photos before i pick one to buy…

Well, there’s also the basic pull-string Woody out right now, I don’t know if you’ve put him into the equasion yet. But yeah, the basic/playtime Woody use a fake denim material, which is probably why they got the colors so close. If you want any pictures of the TSC Woody, I’d be happy to provide, but I don’t intend to pick up the Play Time Woody anytime soon.
