Should "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" be made with computer animation?

When I was little, I loved Thomas the Tank Engine, and now I am in the wake of hearing that the old style of the making of the TV show (filming model trains) is being ‘scrapped’ for CGI!!! Not that I don’t like computer animation (why else would i be here?), but the look and the fun feel of the show will now more or less be ruined for the next generation of Thomas-lovers.

Please join me in a petition against this crappy idea (CG Thomas)!!

Make a post on this thread only if you agree with me that Thomas should never be CG!!

Thank You,

TS2

(okay Mitch, I won’t shout anymore, but these: !!! will never die!!!)

I agree that it’s a really stupid idea, but shouting, caps and exclamation marks all over the place was not necessary.

sorry i just can’t resist (ever)

TS2, I kinda need to say this. I’ve learned to expect negative topics to be from you lately. You might want to let off.

I’m trying not to sound rude, really I am, and I hope you don’t get offended.

Wow… does that mean their faces are going to move?! I’m so used to static facial expressions with moving eyeballs…I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it! BAD IDEA!

eratosthenes: was that sarcasm or do you think it’s a bad idea?

Rac_Rules: ‘let off’? what exactly do you mean by this?

Now, not all my threads are about stuff that makes me mad. I just wanted to see what you guys thought because I’m genuinely mad about this (also I wanted to see how many thomas fans there are here.)

No, seriously it’s a bad idea. It will feel completely removed from its roots.

Dangit, Mitch!!!

I will never outpost you!!!

TS2 - Actually, no one will ever outpost The Star Swordsman, but that’s a different subject… (heh)

No offense meant. If you’re referring to the fact that I edited your post, I simply did so in conjunction with the forum board rules. Words and/or sentences typed all in caps is considered shouting, and is generally not allowed.

And to add, you mustn’t have seen this post which I pointed out to not long ago.

Please change the thread title or I will be forced to lock this thread up.

On topic however, I do agree with you. Thomas the Tank should not go CGI. That is what made the show so special.

do you mean the one about the army Tank? cuz I’ve seen something like that that’s hand-drawn, so I don’t know if you’re talking about that or the train, so say Tank Engine from now on so I can tell. Thanks!

This is terrible. What are some good online petition sites?

Well, if you really do want to create/start an online petition, this would be the site to go to:

petitiononline.com

Going back on Topic!

I think that the two should not be made with CGI. it is pretty stupid.

I practically grew up on Thomas the Tank Engine, and part of what made it so charming is the medium it was made in. I can’t imagine it any other way. This is as bad as making the Care Bears in CG…

Wow!!!

A lot of fans here! A lot more than I thought! Maybe I’ll make my avi a Thomas avi now (if i can find one).

Also, the show would probably cost less to make than it would cost in CGI if they quit introducing new characters and just made better episodes because they already have all the models and trains and stuff, I mean, introducing animators to a new medium most likely is harder than keeping it the same and having it look better AND having it probably cost less. Anyway, your thoughts?

Shock! :open_mouth: It would be a shame for us because we grew up with stop motion Thomas! It just won’t be the same with CG Thomas and the gang and a CG fat controller… Woes

Most, definitely not! That would be horrible, it would completely ruin Thomas. I just found a bunch of episodes of “Shining Time Station”, and a lot of just original “Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends” stories on YOUTube, and I almost like the show even more now.

CGI would be the death of Thomas, and I know I wouldn’t watch.

Also, I’m curious, have any of you guys also read the original books by Rev. W Awdrey? I have a large volume compiling them all into one book and have read it numerous times.
