What are you’re thoughts on the Gary Rydstrom feature?
Don’t we know next to nothing about it? ![]()
Besides the fact that I can’t wait to see it, nothing much really. ![]()
This is more of a “speculation” thread. What genre do you think the film will be, things like that.
What I mean is, is there really enough information out there to speculate? It could be virtually anything. I just think it’s a bit early to speculate. But that’s just me.
Okay, I guess you’re right. Let’s wait and see what the admin/mods think before we continue. I think we should probably lock this now.
Welp, I think (and admittedly hope) it’s something like Wall-E - no dialogue. Other than that, I’ll say I’ve enjoyed his short films and truly look forward to this one. ![]()
Speculation is good - I mean - it’s within reason to speculate he will take elements from Lifted and have a lot of focus on sound in his story.
If Lifted is any indication, we can be confident in saying that it will be brilliant. ![]()
Gasduude: I don’t think it will be dialogue-free or dialogue-minimal, I think that doing two feature-length films like that too close together would be pushing, and the fact that the majority of films these days do not do it goes to show that it is not a style suited for the majority of films, so chances are that if he were to do it again so soon after WALL-E, he would probably be doing it just for its own sake, which is very un-Pixarian. Which is why I don’t see it happening. ![]()
Looking at Rydstrom’s background, it’s hard to disagree with Dash in that there will be a heavy emphasis on sound, but I don’t think it will be so heavy as to be overly noticeable unless you’re really trying to find it. If he’s to make his mark as a good director, he can’t place too much of a focus on any one aspect, regardless of having a “soft spot” for it because of it being his specialty. There needs to be a balance between all the elements; that said, if the film that he creates is such a one that is naturally geared towards an emphasis on sound, that’s absolutely fantastic.
And of course I’m sure Gary will have absolutely no trouble doing any of these things.
I’m expecting more of a sci-fi type of story, but of course, it can go in the opposite direction and be an original idea. Perhaps something along the lines of Lifted or in the sci-fi relm?
That was exactly what I was going to say!
However I don’t think we will see a Sci-Fi flick from Gary. The rumours of a sci-fi flick from Pixar have kind of been satisfied by Lifted and WALL-E. You also must keep in mind however that he did work at LucasFilm for a long time so I’m sure we can see an influence from that side of what kind of story we will see from Gary.
I’m thinking somewhere along the lines of an adventure story, maybe just a bit more elaborate than Up. Thats my 2 cents.
I also whole-heartedly agree with DELf4242
bawpcwpn - Yeah, that would seem strange… an original story that we haven’t seen yet from Gary would be the mostly likely bet at this point.
