What!?!? NO! I love Toon Disney and Jetix! THey can’t just leave! What is this world coming to?!?!?!?

Oh Well, it has been very fun. I’ll miss it. I’m not so sure about this new idea for a male oriented Disney Channel.

Bad enough that Toon Disney’s been going downhill recently, now this? Lame…

A male orientated Disney channel?

Okay then.

And it’s going to be called ‘Disney Scrunched Up Smiling Face’? I think I’ll just pat Disney on the head in a patronising way and leave it at that.

Toon Disney dissappeared ages ago in the UK. :frowning:

I heard and read about U.K. Toon Disney changing into Disneycinemagic back in March 2006,sorry my friend David, wish that stuff like that wouldn’t have to happen,I almost knew that U.S Toon Disney/Jetix would get the Axe next, and get the makeover treatment like U.K. Toon Disney did, sometime, well that sometime came to soon for us all.

Have A good and blessed day David - KJA

Yhea I know can you believe that I bet that took some real thought on disney’s part to think of A name for the new Disney channel for boys, from what I read the man Rich Ross said that some guy just looked on there site Disney DXD an said let’s just Drop the Extra D and then make the station called Disney XD,amazing the minds we have working in media and cable these days isn’t it Lizardgirl, :unamused: not.

P.S. note to all here - I will be on the Net a little longer than I thought atleast A few more days extra my Mom told me to get all out of my last net month I can get,so I will get as close to the end of the month as I can, before pulling the plug, so the new date I will be leaving the net is August 23,2008 Satuday. By the way my mom is doing much better and came to visit us yesterday from the nursing home, thank you for all your strength and prayers for my mom everyone.

XD!!!

Oh why didn’t I see this place before? This is the perfect place for me to rant about it.

Real genius move, Disney. NOT. Start off with two channels, each having some Disney-related cartoons and showing REAL Disney movies often. Then, slowly corrupt one by acting as if inviting ANY teen in to rip off old shows and pretend it’s always never-before-seen, and forget your old shows and movies. After that, move some cartoon shows that were on Disney Channel to Toon Disney, so fans of the older shows can still catch reruns. Then, show them only really early in the morning on Disney Channel. Then, realize that your “Disney Channel” seems to have too much stuff for teen girls, and even it out by kicking out the Toon Disney and replacing it with another channel for teen guys, both sides corrupting young children of today that haven’t hit teen years yet. And to top it all off, name it after an icon meaning laughing with scrunched face from online. :unamused: Sure, Disney, way to go. :unamused: :imp:

You know what’s really bad? I had stopped caring much about Disney Channel and thought maybe I could trade it on my TV for Toon Disney instead. And lo and behold, Toon Disney had been overthrown by fools. The animated shows on Disney XD AREN’T EVEN DISNEY! They looked like they’re bought from other careless cartoon channels. “Spend Saturday morning right” indeed.

Doesn’t Disney realize that Disney should be for all ages? Doesn’t Disney realize that little kids will watch all this? What’s worse is that little kids don’t notice the drastic change. Most don’t see real Disney slipping away. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come across a little kid who is so naiive about Disney nowadays. Instead of being inspired to stay a kid somewhere in their heart, Disney is pushing little kids to start gossiping about teen celebs and dating early for no reason except some kid looks good for now. There was even an episode of one show that teased kids that haven’t kissed before, therefore pressuring the viewers to go out and kiss even if it means nothing. BAD Disney, BAD Disney.

Sure Toon Disney was bolted down by Disney making television shows out of thier old Classics, but some shows had some charm to them, like Recess or House of Mouse. And Disney decides, “You know what? We’ve been neglecting our old shows and movies only to get kids hyped with teen pop stars, and it seems to me that it’s aimed for teenage girls. What should we do to make it even? Hmmm…DO THE SAME THING TO THE OTHER CHANNEL ONLY FOR TEEN BOYS! PERFECT!” :unamused: :imp:

imitates Dory Toon Disney, come ba-a-aaack!

This is what Disney’s doing.: imitates The Emperor’s New Groove
“Welcome to Disney XD! The ultimate extreme Disney Channel for guys! Complete with teenage material for boys!”
Toon Disney:“Uh…I don’t understand how this could happen…”
Newer Disney: “Lemme clear it up for you. At the premiere tomorrow, I give the word, and your old beloved shows and movies of what’s left of the old animated Disney which Disney is treasured for in the first place because it’s for all ages will be destroyed, to make way FOR THIS!”
Toon Disney: “But where will we go?”
Newer Disney: “Hmmm…don’t know, don’t care. How 'bout that?”

Am I right?

Seriously guys, can Disney on TV have no balance? What the heck are they thinking??

Jane (from Tarzan) says: when Disney Channel goes teen-celeb-central: “Well it can’t get much worse than this, can it?” breaking news, Disney XD overthrows Toon Disney despite fans’ angered protests “Well obviously it can.”

Here’s a quote from Atlantis that I find perfect for this situation:

-“The people are content-”
-“They do not know any better! We were once a great people and now we live in ruins! The kings of our past would weep if they could see have far we have fallen.”

Argh I hate DisneyXD. Overrated. imitates Kuzco All I know is that it looked iffy. And I’m not the only one who thinks that, I’m sure.

imitates Tantor DISNEY! Are you sure this channel’s a good example? It looks QUESTIONABLE to me!

P.S. I’ve once read this awesome absolutely intensely lovable Disney fanfic in which while House of Mouse goes out of business forever, Mickey and friends won’t stand for only existing as a CG preschool show. It’s insulting, not only to Mickey but to Walt Disney himself! Donald’s ranting and raving after being forced into it is perfect for his character. Then the older Disney characters even die as fans forget about them (kind of like Tinker Bell dying if one does not believe in fairies). It’s a really intriguing read and I would definitely recommend it to you, but last time I checked, this amazing fanfic was deleted. sigh I wish the author would post it up again, and not only that, even send it to Disney!

And on another note, I’ve planned this for a long while, but I kept putting it off: should I write a letter and petition to Disney before it sinks even furthur?

shrugs shoulders Hmm, well, I never really watched Toon Disney or Jetix or whatever it decided to call itself really…although this new Disney channel does show Naruto Shippuden…the only sad thing about that is that Disney cuts out more from this than Cartoon Network did with the original Naruto series facepalm honestly Disney, how do you expect jokes from Japan to make sense if you censor out the punch line? sighs Looks like I’ll have to stick to watching the episodes on-line or buy the dvd’s…

Haha, good one. :sunglasses:

That’s what I find most annoying about Disney nowadays (and most cartoons in general). They’re increasingly getting replaced by the ‘teens in high-school setting’ sitcoms. Shows like JONAS (which I watched for half an episode and gave up), Hannah Montana, Zack and Cody, Cory in the House, Raven, etc. Granted, it’s nice to have a couple of live-action shows to entertain the ‘grown-ups’ like Yours Truly, but when so many of them come from the same freakin’ genre, doesn’t it become boring and repetitive? Can we have more shows like Waverly Place (that have interesting premises, instead of the ‘friends in a house or high school’ setting) or old-school ones like Dinosaur (you know, the 90s sitcom with people in rubber dino suits)? If you’re gonna have teen protagonists, take an example from Nickelodeon, which had innovative shows like All That (a sort of comedy sketch show that is kid-friendly), The Journey of Allen Strange (a role reversal on the typical new-kid-in-the-neighbourhood show) and game shows like Guts and Legends of the Hidden Temple. I’m sick to death of teenyboppers; a little of the ‘high school sitcom’ is good, but everything in moderation, and would it hurt to spice things up a little?

I’ve been observing other channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, and they seem to be doing the opposite of Disney Channel. They run a couple of live-action shows for the teens like iCarly or the high-school setting like My Gym Partner is a Monkey, but otherwise, they keep some of the old ones (like Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, or Rocko’s Modern Life) from the 90s to run every now and then. The majority of their programs are animated and kid-oriented, with none of the teen-speak and settings. Cartoon Network has been running Boomerang which runs some of its ‘oldies’ from the 70s and 80s (Flintstones, Atom Ant), and Disney can’t even sustain a channel showing its classics from the 90s?

What happened to the good ol’ Wonderful World of Disney, that segment on Sunday night when they played the old Disney movies of yore? What happened to more recent toons like Jake Long and Kim Possible (who although are pretty good as the ‘new age’ toons, are still stuck in the high-school setting quagmire), who are now trapped in eternal reruns? What happened to those ‘adventure shows’ like DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Gummie Bears, Bonkers, Rescue Rangers, etc. etc. etc.

Kids grow up too fast, nowadays, with exposure to video games and MTV (which must be one of the stupidest channels on Earth), and now the last bastion of childhood is being made way for insipid, vapid forms of entertainment?

Come to think of it, you’re right. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is the only show where Mickey and his gang currently ‘reside’ on their present lineup.

Disney is losing its soul to the self-indulgent, commercialised (dare I say, hedonistic?) high-school culture of the pre-teens. I’m not asking you cancel Hannah Montana and her friends outright, I’ll admit I enjoy watching an episode or two to gain an insight on the teen culture and because my sister likes those kinda shows. But to marginalize your older classics at their expense is to deny your roots, and the legacy that Uncle Walt has left behind, and that makes me sad and worried about the future direction this channel is taking. :frowning:

Well said, bright dot-dasher and thedriveintheatre. I agree completely. I was really disappointed when my fav shows started going away. When Toon Disney was still Toon Disney, and when it still had good shows, I never got that channel. I only got Toon Disney maybe 2 years ago. And I was disappointed again to see it was Toon Disney/Jetix. So again, most of what I would watch was gone, and they werent even Disney shows. THEN they change it to Disney XD, so I was like, “That figures. I finally get Toon Disney and it goes away” Now even sometimes when I check the on-screen guide on my TV, Disney and Disney XD have the same exact shows on at the same time. I was like, I thought the whole point of a second channel was having different programming, not to be a clone of the first.

I miss the old stuff too, but what can you do? I totally agree that Disney spends too much time catering to one certain age group. And not just with TV channels.

Unfortunately, what Disney is doing is part of the norm which is conforming to what is popular and in the now if you will…Disney knows that by marketing towards the teen/preteen age group, whatever is popular will become an instant cash cow and will make them plenty of money in the end…why do you think that High School Musical was able to actually have three films including the final one being in theaters…because it makes them money, despite the fact that Disney has brought for us classics that we all cherish and love (for me one of those would be TNBC), the fact is Disney is a business and does what they have to do in order to stay in business…

Thanks, TDIT and lennonluvr.
Hmm, Princess_Darkness, I see what your point is. It’s tragic, though, that Disney had been becoming more of a business, sacrificing what Disney was famous for accomplishing in the first place for anything to make kids temporarily happy…and money.

To quote Walt Disney himself:

You’re dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are just kids grown up anyway.”
(They’ve been aiming only for kids with their shows and toned-down sequels. Not that I hate them all, but it’s just that when Disney is overwhelming invaded by that, it’s infuriating.)

“I hope we never lose sight of one thing- that it was all started by a mouse.” (Disney doesn’t give him enough credit on TV, if you ask me)

and

“Take care of the customers first and the business will take care of itself.”
Disney put business first. Some audiences do not know any better, but they want more than just temporary entertainment, teen-centered or little-kid-centered. Moving, daring, inspiring, breathtaking timeless classic family entertainment for the fans of true Disney should last longer and matter more…surely that’s better than keeping up with what’s popular nowadays. What separates Disney from other studios?

Is Disney really following what Walt wanted?
