Total Film 159 Greatest Moments in Movie Animation

Total Film produced an Article in the magazine this month counting the 43 Best Moments in Animated Movies and Pixar makes 7 appearences in the 43.

The Magazine lists the movie moments as “The Bit…” and it sums it up quite nicely!

Position 35: Monsters Inc: “The bit At the End”
Position 32: Finding Nemo: “The bit Where Bruce smells blood”
Position 27: Toy Story 2: “The bit At the Start”
Position 24: The Incredibles: “The bit Where the suits are revealed”
Position 15: WALL-E: “The bit Where EVE turns off”
Position 6: Toy Story: “The bit Where Buzz ‘flies’”

Position 1: Pete Docter’s Up: SImply titled “The bit You’ll Cry At”

Just reading that little article (which does contain some spoilers) and some lovely pictures of the montage moment [spoil]When Carl Meets Ellie.[/spoil]

I had a small tear but it was joined by the entire cinema at Cannes where 2000 critics who took off their 3D glasses to all wipe tears from their eyes!

I couldn’t agree more. However, if they’re gonna feature several scenes in the same movie, I think Up should have 3. The other 2 being [spoil]the campfire scene, and the book scene towards the end. The badge scene at the end would have a high spot as well.[/spoil] There’s so many great touching moments in Up, and just Pixar movies in general. It’s great to see that it’s getting notoriety.

EDIT: Ahh, my bad. I though TS had 2 spots in the list, that Up scene would be the one to pick then.

I can agree with this. of course there are some parts of Pixar movies that strike me harder than what you listed. But overall, it is a good list.

Warning Spoilers Coming Up… This is the sequence in which Total Film Described and listed as the Greatest Moment in Movie Animation:

Well, we’ve just seen our young Carl Fredricsen meet his beloved to be, Ellie. So far by-the-book. But we then race through decades of thier life together in just a few flickering, shimmering images, the sublime montage taking ub bit just the big things in life (marrage, attempts to conceve a child) but the small things too (Ellie knotting Carl’s tie each morning as he grows old). It ends with Ellie’s death and Carl sat in the funeral parlour, alone and lost.

The Article Continues to close with this

Foget Bambi’s mom ir Simba’s Dad… Never in the history of Animation has so much emotional devostation been wrought. Or So Much beauty, so much compainionship so much LOVE communicated.

and then the Greatest Accolade I think a Magazine could give an Animated feature/director

Walt will be weaping in his grave and beaming too.#

The Magazine have really tried with this segment of the magazine and each entry gets a small bio leading to Up’s (as shown/spoilered) above

I’ll give you the comment the magazine has given…

#35: Monsters Inc: The bit at the end
“Boo?” “Kitty!” Beast and Baby together again: the most beautifully underplayed reunion since Shawshank.

#32: Finding Nemo: The bit where Bruce smells blood
The Vegie Shark lapeses in a short show off showcase of clanging fangs and eruptine anemones.

#27: Toy Story 2: The bit at the start
A fake/real gambit ripped off in Disney’s Bolt as Rex plays videogames with Buzz

#24: The Incredibles: The bit where the suits are revealed
Horn-rimmed fashionista Edna (voiced by Director Brad Bird) demonstrates why capes are Sooo last year

#15: WALL-E: The bit where EVE turns off:
On our dead planet to find life, superbot EVE shuts down with a plant inside her. Lesser-bot WALL-E mopes, plays one-sided Pong, shelters his friend, tries to hold her hand… it slips. This is what people do when loved ones fall sick, a love story for waste disposal units

#6: Toy Story: The bit where Buzz “flies”
Locked in a “Can!” ‘Cannot!’ battle with Woody, Buzz proves that he really can fly… by jumping off Andy’s bed with his eyes shut. A bounce off a rubber ball, a slide down a car track and a whizz on an airplane mobile later and he’s back. Now THAT’s what we call falling with Style

Nice, i definitely agree with #1, that speechless bit was pure work of genius. The artists at pixar are such great storytellers, let alone the amazing artwork as well.

Good on ya, Pixar! I pretty much agree with the scenes listed, though I was disappointed that ‘Define Dancing’, ‘When She Loved Me’, ‘The Wheel Well Drive’ and ‘Wall Rat’ didn’t get mentions. Those scenes from their respective movies were pretty good, in my opinion.

I’m surprised Up as a new entry this year managed to trump every other film for the number one spot. Not to say it didn’t deserve it (cos’ that scene was so devastating!), but yes, it just goes to show how uber-awesome the movie is, to the extent that it managed to beat all the classics and become one in its own right.

I agree, the scenes listed from each Pixar movie are definitely some of the highlights, and although I can’t personally vouch for Up, considering some of the high praise it has had, I’m not totally surprised at its number one spot. Thanks for sharing this information, Captain Pan!

Interesting. I cant say I have any problems with how these scenes were ranked, but I dont understand the Nemo one. That’s certainly not a scene I would have picked as having big impact on me in that movie. At least, compared to some other scenes. But whatever. I suppose from an action or technical standpoint it works
