Totally Bombed My Astronomy Lab Test Today

Do you have test anxiety?

  • Yes, badly.
  • Yeah, but very little.
  • Nope not at all.

I’ve let you down Mator… (For those who don’t know who Mator is, he is the tiny UFO from one of the Cars Toons “Unidentified Flying Mater” and yes Mator is spelled right. He isn’t Mater.)

No but really I’m usually really good at science. One of my favorite subjects and what I hope to major in one day. I was so nervous because I didn’t want to mess it up. I put way too much pressure on myself. First I was put in the wrong station by my teacher. He forgot he put me in there then told me that I automatically fail because we have personal stations and if we aren’t in them then we fail. I told him he put me there and he didn’t believe me until a student who witnessed it told him that’s where he put me then he apologized. Keep in mind that now wasted ten minutes of arguing about him not remembering. Now that I was pressured to not mess up even more, I put the answers on my test the EXACT opposite of what they should have been. My teacher isn’t going to be happy when he sees that…I never got below a 80 on a test in that subject in my life.

I’m sorry but I needed to get it off of my chest because it’s been bothering me all day since I took it. After I took that test the whole day seemed to go wrong for me.

The world goes away when I’m here though. <3

I know how you feel. When I have a test in a subject I’m nervous about (I’ma lookin’ at you, Geometry) I get very freak out-ish. I start to get jittery near the end and stressed, which only makes me answer questions slower. :unamused:

Ughhh I hate geometry! :imp:
When I get nervous, everything I know flies out of my brain then right out of my ears and as soon as you take the test paper away, it flies back in.

Wait till you get to Calculus. That one’s a killer.

I always dreaded Chemistry and Maths test in high-school. No matter how much I revised, I would always struggle through 'em. Granted, I got pretty good passes most of the time, but I was not pleased in comparison with my ‘Distinction’-ish grades in other subjects.

Assessments in university for my course is mostly project-based, so thankfully there’s no more mugging for me! Just cramming a lot of essay-writing and artwork-production in the last minute.

You’re lucky you’re in college. Most of the seniors I knew in my freshman year said their college years have less days in their school year than in high school. I’m still in high school. I’m almost done with my second year  12 more days of classes then finals then done

You’re absolutely right, x3haijessiex3. If you’re lucky, you can choose your classes such that you only have to come to school 3 days a week, or have consecutive days off to have a long weekend. Of course, with extra free time comes personal responsibility. Most students think they can work part-time, and some of them do successfully manage to juggle that with their schoolwork, but some get caught up in their side gig at… Pizza Planet or BnL-Mart, that they neglect their studies. And still others totally waste their time on parties or slacking off. So you gotta keep your priorities in check and indulge in healthy activities.

LOL! I promise to keep up with myn studies and not eat away at BnL and not world at Pizza Planet :stuck_out_tongue: I understand what you mean though. Do you major in something yet? And if you major in something, is that more work than not majoring in something?

I used to be terrible when it came to pretty much any exams, be it in subjects that I was good at or not, so I know how you feel, haijessie. I guess revision was never my strong point, and the pressure build-up isn’t nice, but nowadays I’m much more calm when it comes to exams. I believe that the more you do and the more you practice, the less you stress out.

Admittedly the exams I’m doing at the moment don’t count towards anything at all, but just generally, it’s good to be in control and very organised about your revision so when it comes to the exams, you know you’ve tried your best and that there’s nothing more you can do.

And if you end up usually doing well, then that’s even better! One bad exam won’t stand out in the overall scheme of things.

I agree with you and no one is perfect =/ I just don’t know what happened to me. I felt more pressured than usual. I usually always have pressure but when it came down to that test omg I can’t tell you all of the things and feelings that were going through my mind. It was horrible. The worst is the teacher singling you out in front of the whole class. -.-

My degree has no major… there’s honours, but it’s not given to students who excel in studies, rather it’s given to those who wouldn’t mind paying more money to study an extra of year of what is essentially the same course syllabus… and if you don’t get above a ‘Pass’ grade, you don’t get the honours title and essentially wasted one year for nothing. :unamused: You can tell I’m not impressed with my uni’s money-making scheme.

That’s not very nice of him/her… but take it as a wake-up call, then. Hopefully you can prove him/her wrong next time!

I didn’t order a wake up call :stuck_out_tongue:

I can’t wait to study science in college though.

I’m an okay test taker. I can study as hard as anyone and I could be 100% sure of the facts, but when that test shows up on my desk, I go blank for a while.

I could have the information in my mind but then test paper comes :open_mouth: and the information leaves. The test paper leaves, the information returns.

Haha, I’ve had very bad instances of that too, haijessie. Like I remember in a biology paper in January, there was a one mark question that required a single word as the answer. I knew I knew what it was, but I could not, for the life of me, remember it! I ended up just writing down something else which I knew was wrong. Very irritating.

That’s the annoying thing with the sciences and maths, that sort of thing. There’s a right and a wrong answer. Whilst with English or other essay-based subjects, you can just sort of blag your way through it.

I would rather put the very wrong answer than put the opposite of the right answer xD
