According to imdb.com/title/tt0435761/ 86 minutes is the running time of Toy Story 3. Is it just me, or is that way too short. Toy Story was just 81 minutes, but TS2 was 95 minutes. I hope this isn’t true. Although, Lee Unkrich revealed in a recent interview that TS3 would be apprx. 90 minutes…
Please share your thoughts below. I would really like to know wheather this is true or not.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it were true. The original was indeed rather short, but it didn’t detract from the film in any way- actually, an over-long film (especially one intended for all the family) is something much worse than a shorter film, so I’m guessing the people at Pixar want to keep Toy Story 3 short and sweet. Even Toy Story 2 was quite short considering the average length of films these days.
I would take what the IMDb says with a pinch of salt, though. It’s not always the most accurate source of information. I’m sure someone else on here mentioned that they’d discovered the running time for Toy Story 3 somewhere…Can’t remember who, or where, though.
Even if the film were to be only 86 minutes, I wouldn’t be too worried.
Like my English teacher says, the best essays are short and very focused, they get straight to the point. They aren’t plumped up with unnecessary/distracting writting.
I think this applies to films as well, and Pixar knows what they are doing.
Wow, Toy Story 3 really is cutting it close this time… I remember Wall-E always felt short to me at a little over an hour and a half (but maybe because it’s my bias). Brad Bird’s films tend to be ‘meaty’ enough, and Up, while not necessarily as long, certainly felt like a grand adventure because of all the action and epic setpieces.
Toy Story 3 doesn’t have as much scenery-chewing as most Pixar outings, but I guess it can work as a ‘prison-escape’/‘drama-in-a-confined-space’ kinda adventure.
Anyway I’ll just echo what most posters are saying and quote a famous saying:
As lizardgirl said, IMDb isn’t the most reliable source. XD On Wiki, it said 86 minutes, too. But Wiki isn’t the most reliable either. Maybe IMDb stole from Wiki, or it was the other way around.
Really I don’t care, I want to see Buzz, Woody, Jessie and everyone else in their shenanigans no matter how long it takes. If it really is the final installment, however, I would hope it would be longer.
I don’t see a problem in an 86 minute movie. I mean, an hour and a half is a pretty good running time for an animated movie, or any movie for that matter. Sure, it’s not as long as The Incredibles, but some movies simply aren’t made to be too long.
Well seeing as the cliffhanger edition was about 70 minutes, and they apparently didn’t show the last half-hour, that would put the movie at around 100 minutes, which is longer than the first two. Still, I’m not believing anything until it’s officially announced. Even if it does turn out to be 86 minutes, I don’t think that will affect the film’s overall quality at all.
as long as they get the whole story tied up nicely I’m okay I wouldn’t want Pixar to be just putting in unnecessary tidbits JUST to make it longer because it’s the last. Plus- I agree with mo an hour and a half is pretty decent
I wouldn’t have minded it being an hour and a half long. You have to remember these films, whilst enjoyed by all ages, are kids films. They have to cover a broad spectrum when it comes to age. My three yr old will just manage to stay the course of Toy Story 2. It’s hard for the younger ones to focus on any film for an extended length. It’s unfair on other cinema goers when your kid starts playing up. The longer the film the more likely that becomes. The run time is about right but I’m glad it isn’t longer.
