People in here have a weird idea about Russia, don’t they?
Spirit of Adventure: In Soviet Russia, people have weird idea about you!
Sorry. Couldn’r resist.
As for the underperformance, I think that people not seeing the firsttwo films is a valid point. Still, we needn’t worry about Russia no mroe. After all, France is about to get the film this weekend. And I have a feeling that Paris has a hankering for Buzz and Woody and the gang…
What I’m saying is that most of us don’t know a lot about Russia, so I think our comments may be potentially offensive to them.
I’m just saying.
Hey what is a “Soviet”? Don’t you know this ceased to exist about 20 years ago.
EDIT- Please do not use strong curse words on the boards, thanks.

I highly suggest that this topic should be closed. It becomes offensive, trust me.
(though I will give a link here to my friend from Moscow. We are highly discussing TS3 in emails now, she’s a fan too. I’m myself curious what she will say. No, you can wait and see if she posts anything here…)
E.Nie I’m very sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you or Russia in any respect. The Soviet Russia joke was a tastelss attempt at humour. Again, I apologize for offending anyone’s being or country.
OK, hello everyone! I’m a friend from Moscow Elina was talking about))
Actually, I don’t have much to add to this discussion, because everything was already said, sometimes more than once, so I thought I’ll just give you a wave as a proof that there are people out here who love Pixar and even if there’s not many of us, we’re devoted %)
It’s true that people here underestimate Pixar in a way, but just like all other cartoons and I don’t think that it has to do with anyone’s sense of humor or lack of money to spend on the cinema or other stuff. And Soviet Russia is just history, sorry, pals. Personally I agree with Elina on the matter of people being afraid to seem childish and trying to grow up as soon as possible (what for? value your childhood!), so they categorize all cartoons as a ‘childish stuff’ and disregard it. I’m sorry to see that Toy Story 3 doesn’t get high numbers in Russian cinemas, but that’s just the way people are. At least I did my duty as a fan to watch it more than once ))))
No, wait, one thing I wanted to say is yes, actually, I haven’t seen neither of the first two movies in the cinema, but that kinda doesn’t mean I’m not familiar with them. I had both movies on VHS and kept watching them (I actually learned a good bit of English thanks to Toy Story 2, cause I had a tape in English) until they were released on DVD. Then I switched to watching DVDs %)) For me there wasn’t even a ten-year gap between the movies, because they were always there.
Actually, so far I haven’t seen a person who wouldn’t like Toy Story 3. I’ve been to the cinema three times (and Elina beat me here, what a shame!) and enjoyed not only the movie itself (that’s without question), but also the audience reaction, because the audience LOVED it, they were laughing in the correct places and really enjoying themselves and the best part is that there were more adults than kids xD
Err, ok, sorry, I’m not sure all of this wasn’t offtopic. Just wanted to say that people from Russia are watching you! lol xD
Hear, hear!!
Oh, and welcome to the boards,frakir-chan!
Welcome to the forums, frakir-chan!
We hope we’ll see you around the boards
Thanks for your kind welcome =D
I’m not sure why it’s happening, but things tend to balance out sometimes. Mexico has shoveled $52+M out for TS3. Remember last summer when they and Russia both spent $40M on Ice Age 3 and peeps were astonished at these record numbers. So perhaps the timing of the release wasn’t so good over there. Here in the U.S. TS3 was much more highly anticipated than Shrek4 was. In France, just released, the reviewers keep incessantly comparing TS3 to the latest Shrek (and who cares) released just 2 weeks before, while they should be comparing it to other Pixar movies, especially the previous Toys. Toy Story 3 did well in Brazil and Argentina and other Latin American nations, it’s just hard to find out how well with all those foreign numbers to hunt down…
My Largest Apologies E.NIE! And, let me tell you, I truly appreciate the Russian Culture. Sorry if this thread hurt you…
OK, in the end, I may take things too personal. Still, at least two of us found the thread and said everything we could to make things clear.
This may be a bit offtopic, but speaking of national stereotypes and jokes of any kind, I sometimes simply get tired of them. I know there are plenty of stereotyopes about any country - if you guys would only see that printout my mum brought from work once… It’s a short funny story called “Diary of an American teen” which made her laugh almost to death. Also, there are a lot about Englishmen, Scothcmen, Germans, Italians, Finnish - these seem most remarkable. And that’s a rule, they do exist. Still, sometimes I get pissed off and it seems no country has more stereotypes than mine (though I know it’s not true). And when I lived in the USA, I ended up not telling people I was from Russia. I told I was from Alaska (where I spent most of my time), Great Britain, even Poland - anywhere. Just because I was sick and tired of hearing things like “ty krasivaya”, being asked about matryoshkas, balalaikas and babushkas, etc. After all, I personally consider myself a part of globalized world. More a cosmopolitan.
But that’s me. I know you guys didn’t mean to offend anyone. If anyone wants - it’s possible to discuss stereotypes and globalisation somewhere on other board or in PMs.
For now… End of the story, bye-bye))
Yay Russians! I’ve always wanted to go to Moscow but my parents won’t take me.
I find that’s still a problem for people in America. It seems as though DreamWorks has got the whole “hip and cool” stereotype, while Pixar gets the kiddie stereotype. Though most of my school has grown up with Toy Story, some people only care about the nostalgia; in a couple months, Toy Story will be just another kiddie film. Again, since the original Toy Story wasn’t released in Russia, that major selling point is basically lost.
I myself have just turned 15, and I passed the point of not caring what people think, I even had Sid as my Facebook profile picture for almost a month! With this new state of mind, I regret not staying true to myself earlier and always trying to act older than I am; that’s what initially caused me to lose interest in Toy Story and Pixar.
And I’m glad you didn’t take the Tetris joke too seriously.
I grew up with Power Rangers, and the many, many series,’ but my favorite was Mighty Morphin. Now that they’re re-airing it, I took the time to watch it again. From a critical perspective, it’s more edgy and enjoyable. But yeah, I guess it’s not to the point where you can brag about it to your friends.
