Toy Story 3 Academy Award for Best Picture

If ever there was a case for an animated film to win best picture then this is it. I can’t remember ANY film that has received such universally high praise. On that basis alone it should win. Sadly I don’t think it will but I do think it will get nominated.

TS3 deserves to win. I am going to be FURIOUS if it loses.

One Word: WALL-E

They hate sequels, no matter how good they might be. if they didn’t give it to Wall-e TS3 has no chance at all.

TS3 will probably get a nom.

But it wont win.

As much as we all love WALL-E it did not get the unanimously high praise that TS3 has received. In fact I’d say that UP got better reviews across the board than WALL-E. And sure they both got some great reviews but pretty much EVERY review, comment or opinion I’ve seen for TS3 has been a resounding thumbs up. I mean it’s completely unheard of, there’s ALWAYS a few dissenting voices. Add the success of the film in to the equation and it absolutely deserves to be a serious contender. Look how close Avatar came and for every person who loves that film I could find someone who can tear strips off it (me being one of them!).

I believe it will get nominated, but won’t win. However, there aren’t that many Oscar worthy movies out this year besides Toy Story 3 and maybe Inception or HTTYD. Up was mainly nominated because the Academy was pressured from ignoring Wall-E the previous year, and last year had 10 nominations anyways.

Conclusion: Up was nominated for Best Picture last year and I think Toy Story 3 will be nominated this year, but if Wall-E couldn’t even break a nomination (and because animated movies aren’t taken very seriously) then Toy Story 3 doesn’t have a chance. :frowning:

Yeah, as much as it hurts, TS3 has no chance at THAT award. Maybe a script, or direction award? Who knows?

Ugh… :frowning: This doesn’t bode well for us or Pixar.

If Dragons wins, this is gonna be payback from Katzenburg for us taking the Highest Grossing Animated film record. :frowning: I don’t want him to win…

While I’m not gonna hold my breath with Best Picture, while it certainly deserves it, Toy Story 3 probably won’t win it, just for how animated films aren’t taken seriously. But Toy Story 3 should likely win Best Animated Picture, if nothing else.

But if we don’t do as well with the Oscars, we’re dominating the Annie’s.

This is an uphill battle, folks. Get ready to fight to the teeth.

I agree. I am cetain that it’ll be nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Animated Film.

Yes! It should get nominated for those 2 at least. And maybe even We Belong Together will get a nomination.

Oh yeah! That should totally be nominated, or YGAFIM Para Buzz Espaniol

If anything, HTTYD might have actually given Toy Story 3 a better chance of winning Best Picture, by proving that an animated movie can be just as good or better than any other live action nominee. Thanks Dreamworks, .

I doubt it’ll get nominated.

-Sequel
-Animated
-About toys
-More jokier than Up

Everything just adds up against it, unfortunately, even though it deserves to be nominated. It does have a slight chance though because there aren’t that many great movies this year.

Sequel: The Godfather Part 2
The rest I can agree with, but I don’t think being jokey is a problem. Up had a lot of jokes that would normally turn-off the Academy, but was nomnated mainly because of Married Life. With the incinerator scene and the final scene I’d say TS3 has a fighting chance. (which is Academy hogwash for: most movies sucked this year anyway so congratulations again Pixar!)[/b]

LOL, reading my earlier posts in this thread, I am now ready to get out the good china and scarf down a big plate of Crow.

I started reading the website Awards Daily last year during Up’s run through awards season, and started reading again after TS3’s huge success this year. Of course, it’s way too early to know yet, but the vast majority of posters on AD think that TS3 is a lock for a Best Picture nomination this year. The fact that it Makes Grown Men Cry is a big factor. I think the feeling is it won’t win (because it’s animated, and animation has its own category), but unless a lot of really strong contenders come out late in the year and take up all 10 nomination slots, it sure looks like TS3 is in for a BP nom.

Interestingly, word is that the screenplay will have to compete in the “Adapted Screenplay” category (not “Original”), because it’s a sequel. We’ll see what impact this has, but I’m really hoping that this is the year that Pixar finally gets their long-deserved screenplay Oscar.

I’m hoping Toy Story 3 will win an Oscar or two, but I’m really hoping the short before it called Day & Night will win an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, because I’m not sure if Pixar have won that award for a few years now.

Oh, yes! I really want Day and Night to win Best Animated Short!

I agree! Pixar hasn’t won an award for Best Animated Short for a while! And Day and Night totally deserves it.

I have a horrible feeling that HTTYD is going to beat TS3 out in the Best Animated Feature. It was a good movie, I admit, but has nothing on TS3. I’m just afraid that they’ll give Dreamworks a turn, for some reason. Especially this year, since HTTYD was, in my opinion, their best movie. I don’t want to give Katzenburg that satisfaction though. I would cry, definately.

But people all over online are already tlaking about TS3 and it’s chances at the Oscars, so I guess we’ll see. I wish I didn’t care so much sometimes
