Same here. But you never know until the day finally comes!
HTTYD winning has crossed my mind. I hope it doesn’t, but it seems likely. I agree, DaN should totally win for animated short
I hope Toy Story 3 wins Best Animated Picture. I think a live action movie should win best picture. I also winder if HTTYD is gonna be hard to beat, but Toy Story 3 should win.
I’m sure How To Train Your Dragon will get a nomination for Best Animated Feature- and deservedly, too. But I agree with you guys, I’d be both upset and shocked if it won over Toy Story 3. Considering Toy Story 3’s rave reviews and the amount of money it’s taken in, as well as the fact that it is the last in a very beloved series, I personally think that it’s more likely for the Pixar feature to win.
There might be some Academy Members who will want to share the glory of the award, considering that Pixar has won it for the past 3 years. The award has been handed out 9 times, and Pixar has recieved it 5 of those times. It might be a deciding factor for some voters.
That’s a good point, ellie-jessie-eve. In an ideal world, none of that would matter and the votes would be placed solely on the quality of the features, disregarding the actual company that made them. But there seems to be a lot of politics surrounding the Academy Awards, and so that rarely happens.
It is a good point that people may want to do that. However, Toy Story 3 should definitely win the award. Pixar should not be punished because they roll out awesome movies year after year. The best film should win.
I haven’t seen How To Train Your Dragon yet, but it sounds pretty good. Even though Pixar get bigger praise than Dreamworks, I I still think Toy Story 3 should win. I personally like both, but I like Pixar better.
How to Train Your Dragon was good, but not extraordinary. That title belongs to Toy Story 3. It just had more depth, action, and it was just overall more unpredictable and emotional.
Judging from peoples assessment on How to Train Your Dragon (I’ve yet to watch the film) and how its viewed as one of Dreamworks finest, I think it has helped raise the bar of Animation movies and may hopefully help Toy Story 3 achieve that Best Picture Award. This film is cited as the best film to be released this year, Alice and the Wonderland just doesn’t compare. The quality of storytelling has been getting better and better over the years and I think its about time a animated wins it. Even if it was created through unconventional means of filming.
On the other had, what I think will be interesting to see is how Toy Story 3 faces against HTTYD, Sherk the Fourth, Megamind and Despicable me in the Best Animated Feature Award. Dreamworks may have 3 films in that category and might have a higher chance of snatching the award from Toy Story 3 and be awarded to HTTYD. Only time will tell.
which gives me hope that toy story 3 could at least win something there.
for the oscars, animated feature is in the bag. how to train your dragon was very successful, but ts3 is universally acclaimed as a standout this year. for best picture, i truly hope for a nomination but a win is near impossible. so far it’s easily the best film of the year along with inception, but they’ll just give the award to some random movie nobody saw as usual. seriously, the oscars in practice are so irrelevant.
someone mentioned how the critics say it’s more comedic, less emotional. i think that is B to tha S. it can’t be funny AND moving? i’ve never cried harder in a movie in my entire existence. and it was a movie about toys. just stills from the movie (mainly ones involving andy) move me. again why the academy disgusts me.
I thought Up would be Pixar’s last shot at Academy greatness, but Toy Story 3 blew away all my preconceived notions and prejudices of a sequel.
I think it’s a little too early to call now, since the year isn’t over yet and those filmmakers will probably start springing ‘Famous-Actor-Playing-World-War-2-Era-Disadvantaged-Person-Who-Triumphs-Against-All-Odds-in-Sporting-Event-and-Becomes-Political-Figure-in-Exotic-Land’ movies during Oscar season.
And after the Wall-E and Up cop-outs, I’ve lost all hope in those snooty critics of the film world. The best I can say now is to paraphrase Anton Ego himself:
“Surprise Me!”
P.S. This year has been surprisingly mediocre for summer movies. The way I want it, HTTYD should win Best Animated and Best Score (unless LOTG really impresses me), and TS3 should bag Best Pic and maybe Best Original Screenplay.
Does Tangled have a chance?
That’s a good question. I don’t think so, for some reason. It won’t be as emotional as TS3, that’s for sure.
I don’t think you’re going to see Shrek the Anythingth get a nomination this year. Too early to tell about Megamind. From what I’m reading, consensus seems to be that TS3 and HTTYD are the two locks for the Animated Feature category. I’ve also seen folks on Awards Daily mentioning a film called “The Illusionist,” by the same guy who did “Triplets of Belleville,” thinking that it will be nominated - although I don’t know if this has actually been released yet.
Do we know yet if there will be enough animated features out this year (again, I think the magic number is 16) to get 5 nominees in the category? Or will we be stuck with 3? It won’t (and shouldn’t) win, but I would really love to see Despicable Me get nominated, but I’m afraid it may have to be a 5-nominee year for it to get in.
I think Tangled has an uphill climb - Princess and the Frog got in last year, but I think there was a lot of nostalgia and love for the fact that Disney had made a good old-fashioned 2-D film in their classic style. I think Tangled will defintely need a 5-nominee year to get in.
I thought the overwhelming critical response to TS3 was that it was very emotional, so I’m not sure where the idea that it was too comedic is coming from. I still think it gets the BP nomination but loses - then 50 years from now, film fans will be shocked that something this great didn’t win.
I can’t wait until November so watch Tangled and get the review on both Tangled and Megamind to see their chances of being nominated.
Nobody expected Secret of Kells to be nominated last year, but it did. You can’t be certain of anything when it comes to the Academy Awards~
As much as I doubted, I actually think TS3 has a fighting chance.
Of any movie Pixar has ever made, I believe Toy Story 3 has the biggest chance of winning for Best Picture. It will definitely get nominated.
Same here, it totally has a fighting chance for Best Aniamated Feature.
We just have to wait to see how good Megamind and Tangled turns out to be. But I bet either will be as good as TS3 or HTTYD.
Well the summer 2010 season did churn out some crappy movies (Jonah Hex, Vampires Suck, Shrek 4). So with that said i think Toy story has a fair chance of winning.
