Toy Story 3 Academy Award for Best Picture

They’re prejudiced against cartoons, which makes me mad, because I prefer them. They deserve more than what’s left by live-action films. :frowning: I won’t say live action doesn’t take a lot of work, because it’s not true, but animation is way more creative. In animation, you can do anything. Things that would look awful in real life.

Seriously, I think I love you for making this post. This is what I have been saying for YEARS, but almost no one who isn’t a lover of animation seems to agree or even give two thirds of a damn

I know this is really a minority opinion I have, but no I don’t consider those animation either. They all have that uncanny feel to them. Happy Feet felt like people in penguins in costumes, and I was really shocked at how everyone seemed to be gushing over it at the time even wining against Cars, which even though I’d place that at the bottom of Pixar’s list was still far better than the motion capped penguin film. I thought the movie was horrible, both from a visual and story standpoint. Not even feeling like it fits into the animation category was just the final knee to the groin.

Mo cap to me is like wearing an elaborate costume made of CGI. the Muppets are closer to animation than mo cap for me and even they are usually not what most people think of as animation.

Best campaign ever. Can’t wait to see them all (especially Woody as Forrest).

That is an amazing poster, I want it on my wall!

I lmao’d so hard when I saw cats and dogs on the list. But it’s a no brainer that TS3 and HTTYD will get the first two slots. As for the third slot, I’m torn between tangled, Gaurdians, and Despicable Me. And hopefully Toy Story will get that best picture nomination!

Way to go Disney, taking one step far in the right direction! Are they seriously doing this for all the [major] characters?

If there were five nominations I’d say Toy Story 3, HtTYD, Despicable Me, and “those two obscure foreign movies nobody knew existed but everybody will eventually see next year and think are good”.

IKR?!?!?!!! And I’m still mad at them for not giving the princess and the frog the award for best song. And I still can’t forgive them to this day for shutting out The Color Purple In every single category.

Oh my god, I can’t wait! Mr Pricklepants, ya legend!

Ditto!

That…is win.

If they don’t get this award I’m going to scream, seriously.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does “Not since Shakespeare in love…” mean? I know its a movie, but I still don’t get it

I don’t know if it will get it, I hope it will get it, i’m not the biggest fan in the world of the third, I think the series could of just stopped at number 2, but it would be nice for Pixar to win a long overdue best picture award. Come to think of it, there’s a strong chance it may get it with the the majority of the movies have came out this year…

I disagree, if they hadn’t made Stinky Pete raise the issue of Andy growing up then 3 might have seemed pointless, but it was a plot element that needed expanding on in my personal opinion.

Or they could of left it up to the imagination on what the fate of the toys was, I guess it’s down to personal opinion.

I dunno, that would have bugged me personally, to raise a plot element like that only to more or less forget about it, but as you said it does come down to personal opinion.

“Shakespeare in Love” won the Oscar for Best Picture in its year. Basically, what they’re saying is, “Not since ‘Shakespeare in Love’ has there been a movie so great/so deserving of Best Picture/so acclaimed/etc.” They’re comparing TS3 to other Oscar-winning films, in a kind of funny, spoofy way, but a way also designed to make the Oscar voters think, hey, TS3 is as good as some of those other Oscar winners…

karly05- Thank you! I get it now

…even if it arguably robbed Saving Private Ryan for the Best Picture win (also starring Tom Hanks).

I love you. No, seriously, you’re one of less than five people alive who agree with me. The third one was a good movie, but…it didn’t feel the same. : /

Just to put things into perspective, just ignore the fact that this is a Toy Story film for a moment. Despite it not living up to the expectations created from the last ones, no one can deny it’s a masterfully made film in general, except Armond White.
