Toy Story 3 DVD/Blu-Ray

I’ve been loving the set so far (I got the Blu-Ray/DVD combo) but there are two things I noticed:

First, there’s a [spoil]subtitle for when Buzz says “It is open” in Spanish at the garbage chute.[/spoil] I don’t think that was there in the theatrical version. I’m almost sure of it. I think that might have been added for the DVD. Anyone know for sure?

The other thing I noticed is that under the director/producer commentary on the DVD, some of the score is different. I especially noticed this in parts of the western opening, and throughout the climax, [spoil]particularly during the incinerator scene, and when the claw rescues the toys.[/spoil] They briefly mention in the commentary that it was recorded before the film was completely finished, so I’m wondering if some unfinished score managed to sneak in there that way.

But yes, it’s really great now having this film available to watch at any time, and I’m enjoying the bonus features quite a lot so far!

Cool TV spot, Rey! I like how the audience gathered round the telly reacted with the appropriate emotional responses!

Okay, I just made my way through All of the bonus material. What Im about to say might come off more negative than I intend, but do know what I love what is there. and this is only about the bonus content, nothing about movie itself.

my gripes are with what was omitted more than anything. and this could be because I’m just spoiled by how great the toy story content has been in the past. but some things I hoped for or expected but were not there were

An effects only soundtrack.
Young andy home video footage without the VHS filter. (kinda like how we got the Buzz commmercial in the first movie)
set flybys and character rotations. this could have been a great way to illustrate the differences in the older character models compared to the new ones.
Hardly anything on Randy Newman. and a general lack of interviews from the rest of the brain trust. I know their probably busy doing their own projects, but I would have liked to have heard more from there perspective about how they set everything in motion for TS3. Laseter was hardly shown at all except in other divisions like the theme park and toys.

Was Joe Rant mentioned at any point? Not that I can recall.

But most of all I would have liked to have seen the cinexplore content viewable by itself. Didn’t they do that, or something to that effect with Ratatouille? They also did some cooler things in that they gave you the option to jump out of the movie and watch the film makers do their thing for a bit before heading back to the movie. To me that was a more interesting way to handle it. I prefer an organized way of viewing animations tests and whatnot. having it thrown up on screen during the movie is great, but I don’t want that to be my only option.

I know most people will probably never know these are gone, this is really just the geek in me who maybe went into this release with expectations a bit too high, but can you blame me? it was pixar themselves that set the bar so high. They already outdo every other studio in terms of bonus content, and again I absolutlely loved everything that we did get. even when it seemed a bit goofy and irrelevant. I just think they could have been more consistent with the content from the previous two toy stories.

Now, onto some random things I did like, in more detail. cineexplore was great, and the alternate commentary was just as informative as the first. The life of a shot was great, it really shows how much effort from people with all sorts of skill sets come together. (I’m surprised more cameos weren’t pointed out like Lasseter likes to do. oh well)

The setting the story in motion thing by Michael Arndt was fantastic, Ive never been a good story writer but seeing this makes me feel like I’d be more prepared if I were to ever put in an effort to try. It illustrated with clear visuals a good template that you could use (potentially) in crafting a great story. Its of course nothing you should apply to all stories, but it does seem to be solid foundation to start from.

Grab bag was the closest thing to new toy story treats we’ll get. it’ll at least hold us over until the toy story shorts start releasing.

They did a great job with the publicity section, all the trailers (like my favorite, gadgets) was there, even the super rare Japanese poster that has Woody in front instead of buzz. (anyone able to get me a 1080p screenshot of that for me by the way?)

So yeah, that was kind of my rant/review. Again, don’t get me wrong, this is a must own, absolutely. I just feel like the extras were a bit thin by their standards. and it aggravates me that would purposely leave out things like the prison doc for i tunes exclusivity. when you pay for the blu ray you deserve the whole package, and this release could have used more content if they already had it ready to go.

I don’t know that’s just what lizardgirl said, I don;t like them either.

Yeah, that wasn’t shown in theaters. Strange. I wonder if that’s on my DVD.

lizardgirl’s suggestion to leave the spoiler tags on for awhile longer sounds good to me, Oz doesn’t get a DVD release until November 17th, and I’m not sure about other countries either. Anyway, it’s just better to assume that not everyone has seen the movie yet, and I still occasionally spoiler-tag movies that have been released ages ago out of courtesy.

My dad went out yesterday and bought the DVD. I’m watching it right now!

So, it’s finally out in the US. We’ve got 20 more days to wait, but I won’t be getting it until Christmas.

Got the trilogy box set in the mail yesterday from Amazon. It’s really nice… and I love the packaging. The only thing is that, like Kyle said, you can’t display it as nice with the other movies, but I think it was still well worth it, because it was about $10 cheaper than getting all 3 Blu-ray movies seperate (none of which I already had). Plus, it’s got digital copies. :sunglasses:
I already watched TS3 last night with my family… and went through about half of the bonus features. The movie looks gorgeous and the bonus features are pretty cool. Still wish that there was a TS3-themed short, however. Gonna explore more tonight… and I might rewatch TS1 or 2 in French… because I’m learning French in school.

Did anyone else notice that “abierto” is subtitled on the Bluray and DVD, but it wasn’t in the theatrical version? (After Buzz opens the garbage chute.)

My question is still unanswered, so I am going to ask this again to everyone:

Do you think it is smart for me to get both the 10 disk trilogy AND not sell my preorder of the 4 disk DIsney Store one? I really love the 10 disk one, but I also want my Toy Story 3 case with my Toy Story 1 and 2 case. (I have the old TS1 and 2).

What do you guys think I should do? Should I not get the 10 disk one? Should I sell all 4 disks of my Disney Store one and maybe get at least $30?

So yeah, apparently Australia is getting a three-disc Blu-ray set with all three movies - but without the DVDs and Digital Copies included. Are there any extra features that I’d miss out on if I just went with this blu-ray boxset alone? Would I be better off ordering the ten disk set from Amazon (even though it has only a foam packaging)?

I went to Wal-Mart last night and bought the Wal-Mart 3-disc edition, along with the first two films. I have 3 on as I am writing this. The last few minutes still make me well up.I haven’t watch any of the bonus features yet,but I will get to them soon.Glad to hear people are enjoying the film on DVD and Bluray.

Hey, this is for anyone who has bought the Box Set.

What’s the real quality of the package? In the first image it looked very feeble, but in the user pics from Amazon it appears to be stronger than it looked.

^ Do you mean as in durability, or quality? The quality of it is pretty nice, The box itself is really well-made. And SRS, unless you really care about the Digital Copies, I’d just get 1 and 2 on Blu-ray seperately, rather than selling 3. (You can get both on Amazon for less that $50)

I decided I am going to get the 10 disk trilogy, and keep the 4 disk Disney Store TS3 pack. I might decide to sell the disney store on someoday

My mom just dragged me to Wal-Mart, and stopped at the movies, and she picked up the ultimate toy box! She said that’s what she went to Wal-Mart for, and that it was my early birthday present! (My birthday is on November 19th) There was only one! She said she saw it there Tuesday, and didn’t have the money. But, when we paid for it, the cashier said that someone was looking for it, but couldn’t find it! OMG…
Well, gotta go do my homework and then it’s off to my room for hours of Toy Story! (or until 9:00, when it’s my bedtime)

I’m getting the ultimate toybox in about 10 days :-D)

I’m probably just going to get the standard DVD. We don’t plan on upgrading to Blu-Ray any time soon and just owning the movie period should suffice.

This…right here.
