“IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures today announced that Toy Story 3, the third installment of the blockbuster hit franchise Toy Story, will be released to IMAX(R) 3D theatres simultaneously with its wide release on June 18, 2010.”
Wow, that is…I’m speechless with excitement! I’ve been dying to see a Pixar film in IMAX, I was hoping they’d have one for WALL•E, but they didn’t. But I’m really excited for this! I can’t wait to see Buzz and Woody 40X bigger than their toy counterparts!
Nice. I just wish I had one closer to me. the closest one is in new jersey, which is like 2 hours away or something. I used it to see transformers 2 there.
my only worry is how well the movie holds up in imax. the 3d will look fantastic I’m sure, but toy story by nature isn’t going to be as detailed as say, transformers. it’ll obviously be the better film, but I’m just saying there will be less to detail in general to take advantage of a gigantic screen. the subtle scratches and dirt we see on Buzz’es helmet isn’t really the detail I’m talking about either.
So here’s my plan, try to see it in 2d first (that has always been the plan for me) see it again in 3d, both in my regular theater, then maybe a third time in imax. but that might be pushing it, money wise. I may make imax the only 3d viewing.
In my experience, there’s no such thing as a bad seat in an Imax, there’s such a huge incline, and the screen is far enough away that its impossible for there to be any obstructions, or seats with bad angles.
But something to keep in mind there’s a lot of fake imax theaters around. Their normal theaters with Imax projectors labeling themselves as Imax. their still better than your average theater, but still aren’t quite the real thing. There are lists and maps showing if your local Imax is real or not, so check those out before you go. if yours is in an indoor mall that’s usually a dead giveway.
While that’s great, I’m just going to have to settle for regular 3D instead. The closest IMAX theater near where I live is about two hours, that’s a little too far for me to want to drive. Still looking forward to the movie. As for IMAX in 3D, I have seen films in IMAX before both regular and 3D, it is pretty cool! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and
I’m tempted to, when the film is released, make the trip up to London to see Toy Story 3 in IMAX, since it’ll be the middle of July by then and I’ll be right into the summer holidays, so should have time to go and enjoy the IMAX experience. I’ve never been to an IMAX cinema before, the same as some others here, so seeing a Pixar film for the first time in an IMAX cinema would be great!
That’s great news to hear! An IMAX experience is quite enjoyable, so that’s a pretty good announcement. I’d love to make the trek to IMAX Darling Harbour (the only IMAX complex in Sydney) and join Woody & Buzz and the gang in superior quality.
