It looks great, it reminds me of the original Toy Story poster where Buzz is flying and Woody is holding onto his arm. They both have that “in-your-face” appeal to them (and the stills don’t appear in the movie).
It also looks a bit misleading, though, when it comes to the Sunnyside cast…
I like this one for the reasons mentioned above: like that background colors and because of its “in-your-face” imagery. I think I also like the tagline “The Great Escape” better than “The Breakout Comedy of the Year”
[spoil]We don’t know which side Lotso et al. are on at the moment, or whether they’ll have a ‘change of heart’ towards the end, so it’s all up in the air. But yeah, maybe this could be a case of ‘deceptive advertising’ to fool the audience…[/spoil]
Anyway, love the new poster. I still prefer the ‘Breakout Comedy’ one, since this one looks a bit cluttered and the perspective is not as dramatic, but I like that they’re giving Buzz some of the limelight and are trying to go for a more dark and moody feel.
That’s what I was thinking of too when I heard the film would have a big tie-in with LEGO, but now I think the Toy Box Mode stuff in the Toy Story 3 video game will be even more fun.
I think that would make the most sense in the context of a Lego game, but it would be weird to see them move. Deforming minifigures looks a little odd already, so full size Lego sculptures moving around would really look odd. Scaled up human minifigures would look pretty bizarre, but I think they’d probably work better overall, should a game be made.
I was browsing the Japanese Amazon site and I found an alternate version of the Toy Story 3 international poster. It has Woody in the front instead of Buzz, and the whole positioning of everything is a little more cramped.
