Many people are referring to the Toy Story films as a trilogy. Do any of you consider the TS trilogy to be up there with the great cinema trilogies such as Star Wars and LOTR? If not, how does Toy Story stack up as a trilogy?
I consider the Toy Story movies to be up there like those other sagas. All three of them are known for their technological achievements, characters, and critical success.
It seems odd since they’re not action flicks like Star Wars, X-Men, Spider-Man, or Transformers, but they are probably, in my opinion, the greatest trilogy of all time. The only one where all three are of equal, great quality.
Of course they’re a trilogy, just as good as Back To The Future or Star Wars episodes 4-6.
Its starting to be one of my favorite trilogies. I must admit, I’m a huge BTTF fan as well. -Omar
didnt we go over this a few weeks ago?
someone said that toy story wasent a trillogy…the majority of the post on that thread disagreed with him.
Just so there’s no arguement, I can give you my official list of the greatest movie tilogies ever…
-
The Matrix Trilogy: The second two movies of this trilogy actually sucked, but the first movie was so amazing (especially when it first came out) that I have no problem including it on this list. You know, to be honest, I don’t think I’ve actually even seen all of number three… it was that bad. However, I’ve seen the first one enough times to make up for that.
-
Spiderman Trilogy: Good enough to be on this list, but not my favorite movies. The first one was decent enough, but the other two were just OK to me. Not bad, but not great.
-
The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy: Another movie where the first one was great and the other two failed to live up to its greatness… However, the other two weren’t horrible… just added a bit more fantasy than I would’ve liked, considering the first only had one element of fantasy (the curse itself), but was set in an otherwise real world. The other two just went full-trottle fantasy… just a little inconsistant to me.
-
The Bourne Trilogy: Each movie gets a little worse than the previous, but only marginally. The Bourne Identity is one of the Top 10 movies of all time (look it up), so that keeps the series from dropping to far.
-
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Kind of low on the list isn’t it? No it isn’t… go read the books. These movies started to go in the wrong direction about halfway through The Two Towers… Sorry, but it’s true.
-
Indiana Jones Trilogy: If I don’t accept the fact that the Crystal Skull was ever made, then I can keep this awesome movie trilogy here… right?
-
The Godfather Trilogy: “Don’t ever question me about this Top 10 list, Kate.”
-
Back to the Future Trilogy: What a great series! If Part 2 were just a little better, they might actually have made it a bit higher on the list… or not.
-
Toy Story Trilogy: These movies have it all… great stories, great characters, etc… If Toy Story 3 ages as well as the first two, I might be willing to put them at number one some day… Well done Pixar.
-
Star Wars (IV-VI): The ORIGINAL Star Wars movies are still the best. They put to shame the attempt at moviemaking that was Star Wars “Prequels”.
It’s absolutely, positively a “trilogy,” in recent, conventional cinema terms. It describes the life and times of Andy’ toys all the way up to when [spoil]they’re not his anymore[/spoil]. It describes a group of toys’ struggles within the span of a childhood and a teen life, its own little mirocosm. I’d like to think that similar struggles are taking place in bedrooms all over that world.
Those epic trilogies like Star Wars and LOTR are the kind of cinema that’s appealing to that me and more, as I figure (I’m a HUGE Star Wars fan myself). I went in and came out of TS3 with that mentality, the mentality that this was a “saga” of sorts, as it started with Woody’s Roundup and [spoil]continues with Bonnie[/spoil] decades later.
Oh, man, if someone starts calling it the Toy Story “Saga.” I don’t know.
Though there’s no doubt that there is a Toy Story trilogy, there IS a big difference between a trilogy like this one and a trilogy like Lord of the Rings for example. Lord of the Rings was originally designed to be a trilogy, that’s how it was written, so it’s not like they could’ve just stopped at the first if, for some reason, it hadn’t done well. As far as we know, Pixar didn’t originally plan for there to be three Toy Story films, and so despite the fact that they do clearly follow on from one another, they are not as reliant on each other, i.e. you could see the second or third without having seen the previous installments, and it would make sense.
So as far as comparing the Toy Story trilogy with other trilogies of the same nature, well I really can’t think of a better one! Of course I say this without having seen the third, but if it rounds everything off as everyone has said it does, then that’s perfect.
