Toy Story fan commentary - 10.20.2008

December is approaching fast, so it won’t be such a long wait to do the Toy Story commentary, if that’s what we want to do first. However I only have Rachel and Lightning Eclipse’s opinions on the matter. Could everyone else let me know which one of the following four options you’d like to do first:

  1. Do one Toy Story commentary.
  2. Do one of two Toy Story commentaries.
  3. Do one of two Ratatouille commentaries.
  4. Do one of two WALL-E commentaries.

I’m going to try to extend everyone’s calendars into December. Please let me know of any changes to your schedules and also of any vacation time you have.

thedriveintheatre - If we’re going to do just one Toy Story commentary, I’d like to offer my spot as second substitute to you, since I think you may be more excited to do it than I am and you’re next in line after me. Are you interested?

Hey guys, my vacations start on the 20th december, so who knows maybe i’ll be free !

Out of those options, Peter, I think the second one is probably a good idea. Personally, I like the sound of using Toy Story for our first feature length commentary, as it was Pixar’s first film, and doing two of them means that not only can everyone who wants to take part can, but scheduling will be easier as well.

It’d be great if you could join us, Pixar.rocks!

I think one or two Toy Story commentaries would be good, as long as the scheduling works out.

I’ve listened to a lot of fan commentaries, and I think you guys are way over-analyzing the process. The shorts you’ve done so far sound great and are smart and informative. If you’re self-conscious about sound, you can give each other feedback at the start about who is puffing into their mike or sounding a little distant, then cut that part off before posting.

I also think that when you do a feature-length film, you’ll have a lot less trouble with interrupting each other. There’s just so much more time to fill and things happen more slowly.

Yeah, I guess we do tend to over-analyse our performances, me especially. Thanks for the feedback, Zarban!. =)

Starting about a week from now there may be a time when all the commentators and substitutes will be available to do the Toy Story commentary.

JesusFreak, lizardgirl, Rachel, TSS, and thedriveintheatre - Could you give me your schedules from December 22 to January 5?

I believe I already have the schedules of Lightning Eclipse and Netbug.

Actually, anytime after Christmas would probably be great for me. I asked for a new computer mic, and it’s at the top of my Christmas list along with the WALL*E DVD…so, it’d be cool if I could use a new mic when we do our first official commentary.

I’m okay after the 21st, on Sunday. I have a childhood friend coming over from Malaysia sometime during the year-end but she and her mum are not forthcoming with their plans, so it would be best if it could be the date be decided as soon as possible so I could prepare in advance. A commentary done at night in Singapore would be best (which would make it… morning in U.S.?), but I’ll try to be flexible as possible to others’ plans. The annoying thing about my family is they’ll decide what to do on a particular day on the spur of the moment (“Oh, Andre, today we need to go to town and get you a new sweater for Oz.” “But I have enough already!” “We should also take a trip to the new Marina Barrage, it’ll be fun… etc.”). I don’t mind spending time with my family, but they should inform me in advance and not at the last minute, so that’s an annoying aspect I’ll have to negotiate. None of my family are aware of these fan-commentaries though, so it’s kind of a “closet-secret” I’ve been keeping now… :stuck_out_tongue:

Peter- Okay, so from the 22nd to the 5th (with all times in GMT)-

22nd- Work, from 1pm to 5pm
23rd- Free
24th- Free
25th- Christmas! But I’m free either way.
26th- Work, from 11.30am to 4pm
27th- Work, from 11am to 3.30pm
28th- Free
29th- Work, from 11am to 3.30pm
30th- Free
31st- Work, from 10.30am to 3pm
1st- Free (though it’s probably not a good idea to ask me to be awake the day after New Year’s Eve )
2nd- Free
3rd- Most likely working, but not sure what time.
4th and 5th- Free

There is a high chance of me having to pull out altogether (at least, until after the end of January) since I’ve got exams from the 9th to the 21st of January, and have therefore got a lot of revision to do for them. I’ll see how things go, but if I have to pull out, just carry on without me, it’s no problem. I’d hate to delay this commentary further.

Here are some possible times when we can do the Toy Story commentary:
There’s 4.5 hours of time starting at 21:00 on Dec 31 UTC.

Edit: This is the last remaining time. If there’s a conflict with this time we’ll have to find more time in our schedules, or do the commentary with a smaller group, or do the commentary in a shorter amount of time.

I’d rather hear a fan commentary on Ratatouille, but how can I get onto this one for Toy Story?

TS2 - I’m glad to hear that you’re interested. I think that the order that we’re going to be doing the commentaries is Toy Story, WALL-E, then Ratatouille (after that we haven’t decided yet). The Toy Story commentary is closed to new commentators, unless we decide to do more than one Toy Story commentary. I’m open to doing more than one Toy Story commentary, however not many people have said that they’re in favor of the idea. Once you do get in on a commentary you’ll need a headset, or a microphone and headphones, or two pairs of headphones; Skype; and an NTSC copy of whatever film you’re going to be commentating on.

I don’t think I’ll be able to do it on Christmas, and January 1st might be kind of a bad day for me, too. However, I can probably make any of those other times.

Thanks for those times, Peter! It looks like we have a lot to choose from. These times look the best for me. I’ve put a star next to my preferred times, or the times I will most likely be free. But any other times below are ok, too.

21:00 on Dec 25 UTC*

03:00 on Dec 26 UTC*

21:00 on Dec 29 UTC*

21:00 on Dec 31 UTC

05:30 on Jan 1 UTC*

04:00 on Jan 2 UTC

The days following Christmas I should be free on Fri and maybe even Sat. I’m trying to find out whether I can record this Saturday too, so I’ll keep you updated. I might be busy the Sunday after Xmas because apparently we may be doing something with a relative who is coming over from Sydney. I tried to get some more information, but they haven’t settled on any plans because they are more focused on organising Xmas and like TDIT’s family, they let me know only a few days beforehand.

Can’t wait to do this!

qxgnxamy’s 4.5 hours of time starting at 21:00 on Dec 31 UTC sounds good to me. That means we can start anytime from 21:00 UTC to about 1:30 UTC to allow for the movie’s 2-hour length, right?

A lot of qxgnxamy’s and rachelcakes1985’s timings would be at 5 am or 1:30 pm in Singapore, which would annoy my parents since they expect me to be either sleeping or eating lunch then.

Anytime from UTC 1:00 to 3:00 (9am-11am Singapore time), UTC 6:30 to 9:30 (2:30 to 5:30 Singapore time) and UTC 12:00 to 16:00 (8pm-12am Singapore time) after Christmas and in January should be okay if it’s fixed in advance and my parents don’t spring a surprise family outing or household chore on me. My folks are pretty tight on sleeping times and Internet usage even at my age, at least when they’re watching me. :imp:

Actually, the Dec 31st date sounds good to me as well. nodnod It’s at 2:00 for me, and I prefer doing these in the afternoon, since my brain tends to shut down at night. XD

thedriveintheatre - Starting at 21:00 on Dec 31 UTC, we have 4.5 hours to finish doing the commentary. That means we can start anytime from 21:00 UTC to about 23:00 UTC because we anticipate needing 2.5 hours to complete the commentary, though we may actually need less time (the movie is only about 81 minutes long). Keep in mind that it’ll take us a little while to get settled in, and also we’re going to take a break in the middle.

If the times really get narrowed down, I can take a look at the ones I earlier dismissed and reconsider those times. I can also, say, get up earlier and start the commentary at 6:30am instead of 7:30am (but maybe not 6:30am on New Year’s Day). Those times for this Saturday may also be a possibility, I’m still waiting for a response from my sister to see if she wants me to babysit, but I will let you know asap.

The 31st date would be NYE for lizardgirl, so we’d have to see what she says about recording at 10:00pm on that night. Maybe we could interupt the recording to say “Happy New Year”. Heheh. =)

Lightning Eclipse: Neato! Hope I can get up after my New Year’s countdown (since 21:00 UTC is 5:00 AM in Singapore on January 1…).

qxgnxamy: My bad. I meant 23:30, or 11:30 pm UTC. Somehow I read 21:00 as 11 pm. :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, I’m okay with your 21:00 to 23:00 timeslot too.

Sounds like fun!
