Now that Pixar have improved in their CGI quality, and the fact the TS3 is looking so much higher quality than the previous two, would you like to see ‘remastered’ versions of TS1 and TS2? Same shots, same voices, same everything, but with a TS3 level of detail and animation.
I think it’d be a pretty cool idea, and could be released on 2-disc DVD editions with the original and the remastered versions, like they did with the Star Wars original trilogy a few years back.
Have you seen the Toy Story Double Feature? I think that was really the best example of a Toy Story film remastered. And I think that for the Blu Ray/DVD release this is what they’re going to use.
I would love to see a version of toy story with even toy story 2 level upgrades in terms of grass and swaying trees and such.
But for the record, this wouldn’t be remastering. You don’t remaster cgi since there’s no transfer involved, its the exact data from the computers. Remastering only applies to film.
And yeah, as mentioned the 3d release of the movies are the closest you’ll get to an update any time soon. they used newer shaders to make colors pop more, as well as added more detailed textures here and there, and fixed a few animation bloopers, such as Woody’s feet intersecting Andy’s bedspread. Im pretty sure these are the versions we’ll get on blu-ray in March.
I agree with the people who say that it should be left the way it is. The blu rays are probably the furthest that we are going to get with it being remastered, but I do have to admit…
If they redid the animations for TS and TS2 to TS3 animation and detail… my goodness, I would love it even more! I would love to see the previous movies with the current animation and quality of TS3! Not to say the previous animations are bad, no… but think about how it would look. I’m serious just fantasize for a second.
Of course it’ll never happen, but it’s a nice dream!
It is indeed a nice dream, but I would also like to leave the old movies alone. It’s cool to see how they’ve improved. Maybe if they just did a couple of scenes, like the rocket ending, to make it more detailed and mind-blowing, that’d be cool
I agree, it would be cool to see the movies w/ TS3 graphics, but I love them the way they are…
And I think Pixar may have already done something similar to what we’re talking about, with the “home videos” of Andy and his toys through the years. it’s not the entire movies, but it let us see how Andy would have looked, had TS and TS2 been animated in 2009-2010. Which, I think is pretty cool.
I think one of the best things about the original Toy Story (and, to a lesser extent, Toy Story 2) is that despite the animation being a bit dated, once you start watching the film you really don’t notice much as you get sucked into the Toy Story world. To ‘re-master’ (or whatever the appropriate technical term is) the first two would be a shame I think, as they’re fine as they are and, as others have said, it’s cool to see how the films have progressed over time.
