Toy Story Replicas (No trading-related posts please)

The dead expression wouldn’t bother me if it were an accurate toy mode expression, but they didn’t even get that right. You need to reshape the muzzle completely. so that the lower jaw isn’t as big near the end.Its supposed to flow better into the top half when closed (even though it won’t be articulated to do so, it should still look like it should.)

Another issue that Tyler was going to address was the weight. I needs to be weighted in a way that lets you stretch out his body and stay put like in the movie, otherwise its just going to close back in and fall flat on his face when you tie his leash to his proper place. Extra weight would prevent this.

Hmmmm, yes that definitely was a problem with the original toy, but I’m not really sure if weight is really the issue there. Problem I see, is that Slinky was designed as a pull toy so the small wheels he has on his paws which allow him to roll are what are providing the frictionless closing. Even if I do add weight to his back and front halves, they’re still going to close if he’s on those wheels.

So I’m thinking either two options: 1) Make him without the wheels and in place, use rubber pads (I honestly can’t remember a time when Slink’s wheels ever had any function) or 2) extend his Slinky middle so that it drags somewhat on the ground. I’m leaning towards the latter case because I was honestly never pleased with the toy Slinky Dog midsection length, and this way he could still function as a pull toy but with less “pull”.

Nah, its all about weight distribution. you can’t have the front be hollow like it is and expect it to not topple over, its just too topheavy. The center of gravity needs to be shifted from the head/neck to the body and the only way to do that is to make the body heavier.

As for the length, your saying you want it longer? because its actually too long. There are roughly 27 spirals in the movie model.

The real version has something closer to 35. Of course in the movies the length varies depending on the shot, especially the moving truck scene, but when he is stationary its not very long at all. Having it drag on the ground would make him look off model.

i made my own shark replica

@Kyle Actually, I feel like it depends on what film you are watching. If you’re basing it off of 3 or possibly 2, then yes I would say his spring certainly had less number of coils and didnt drag on the ground when he walked.

However, if we’re basing him on the original film, t seems like he had a lot more “spring” in his step.

It also depends on the material composition of Slinky Dog’s front and hind quarters. For a while I did think he was a solid toy, made from wood, but Lee Unkrich confirmed for me that his body is actually just plastic like the toy versions.

Cool shark.

I’m prety sure slinky has wheels on his feet when hes lieing under the bed in Toy Story 2 and Andy’s mom comes to get stuff for the grage sale.

Yes, Slinky does in fact have wheels. The question is, how entirely necessary are they to his function? He’s either a stationary stretcher or a pull toy, but can’t be both.

I’m not completely sure about that… I’d probably have to test it but I don’t see why he can’t be stationary when not stretched out very far, but once its reaches a certain point it pulls the back end with it using the wheels.

Im not at home so I don’t have my standard Slinky Dog toy but if someone would like to try an experiment and weigh down the top part of Slink’s feet so the wheels are still touching the ground, I’d like to see the results.

Anyway, another part of Slinky that confuses me t no end is where the hinge is on his front paws. His basic default mode is that the hinge is above the bottom part of his sole, so that it doesn’t interfere with the ground. However, in scenes like the Moving truck, the Elevator to Luggage scene, the Garbage Bin extension and hanging from the magnet, when he has to either reach or hang from something, his hinges get moved to the sole.

Who ever is in charge of Toy Story merchandise is doing a lousy job. Disney is at it again, this time distributing worthless “Toy Story 3 Sticky Single Pack with Targets”.

Am I the only one who thinks Disney should focus on finishing the Toy Story Collection wave? Upsetting

Look at the packaging. Those toys are NOT Thinkwayway’s, they are done by New World Toys and only available in the UK. I see no problem with other toy companies trying to do something new with Toy Story in this sense, it’s up to them. Making these == Cancellation on any wave 5 of a TSC. It’s not Disney merchandise that’s in charge of it, that decision is Thinkways alone.

Again, Disney itself is not in charge, its the toy companies. And obviously you are not the only one that wants a wave 5, otherwise we wouldnt have 7,205 replies on the Toy Story Collection page.

[b:3ljjpz2u]Umm…I never once mentioned that it was Thinkway’s merchandise. :-\

I was making a point that whose ever in charge of Disney merchandise and licensing should refocus their aim at finishing of the Toy Story Collection wave.

Yes, this merchandise is only available in the UK but so was Wave 4. I don’t see your point.

I also don’t believe you’re giving the Disney Corp. it’s due credit on this. I strongly believe they have the last word, Thinkway would loose big time if they went against Disney Corp’s wishes.

And my last comment was a rhetorical statement. [/b:3ljjpz2u][/color:3ljjpz2u]

I see, there appears to have been a miscommunication or something then. I tend to take things a bit too literally.

Anyway, this doesn’t really bother me, aside from making m jealous that you lucky UK residents get so much awesome stuff than us North Americans (seriously wave 4 was only Europe? What gives?) but what can we do except write and complain,

Disney Merchandise is the distributor of the products, Thinkway Toys are the producers. Ultimately I think if TWT wanted to do a wave 4 or 5, they probably could have and sent the prototypes to Disney for evaluation. Of course, this is an optimistic view akin to saying that they have absolute creative freedom, which they probably don’t.

I’d much rather see the existing toys for Wave 4 here to the US instead of coming out with a brand new one. But again, Disney seems to be throwing most of their focus on Cars 2 merch, so Toy Story has been taking the back seat in terms of consumer retail for the better of a year and a half.

I like the pun that you used there “taking a back seat” lol

No worries, by the way you can find wave 4 on eBay and it’s pretty reasonable now because many UK sellers are selling them. I remember that at one point Buttercup was selling for 70+ now 20-40 plus shipping of course.

By the way I live in the good ol’ USA so I’m in the same boat unfortunately. Until the economy turns around we won’t see awesome stuff. The pound is stronger than the dollar at this point.

In defense of the UK, as well as pretty much every other country, it is a lot harder to get the other TSC characters, as well as much more expensive when you equal out the currencies.
For instance, Buzz’s RRP in the US was what, $50USD? The UK’s got them priced at around $80USD and Australian stores sell them for $100+USD.

“waving the white flag” please no WWIII

Honestly, the only Toy Story collection from the original wave I really want now is RC. I know he’s basically impossible to find now, but dangit I wish I had enough cash to buy him at the time.

Oh well, at least there’s an ebay auction I have my eye on.

Yeah, in France, a toy story collection toy in store costs $105 (€80) lol
It’s the reason why I mainly bought my toys on the Internet, Because even with the shipping costs, the toys would be cheaper XD

Thanks for sticking up for us non-USA collectors!

Yes we did get wave 3 (but the original prices were a bit expensive),it was very hard to find RC & the aliens. I think that the only TSC that cost £50/$80 was Buzz.

There has been 1-2 RC sitting at my TRU for $80 since January…really impossible everywhere else?
