I don’t see how it can be terrible. To be honest I didn’t like the short this time around. It was blatantly preachy, and personally I didn’t like the 2D element.
So wether it’s original or not I can’t see it being a problem. And … wasn’t there those Mater shorts? I can’t remember didn’t they appear before Bolt? Wasn’t Burn.e on the dvd of Wall.e? Nobody thought they were bad because they were based on the movies, so why would this one be bad?
I never said anyone thought that they would be bad, I just said that getting a clear story across without any words is a challenge, and Pixar shows their creativity be succeeding. I’m not saying that if a short is this type it’s automatically good, of if it’s not it’s automatically bad, it’s just that personally I enjoy seeing them overcome that challenge every year but I also do love the feature based shorts.
No one said they would be/are bad. but none of the movie based shorts were shown in theaters to my knowledge. I didn’t see the Mater short before Bolt, not sure if it was just me. some of us just don’t like the idea of them going with this instead of something original.
I think that because they are putting it before a sequel that’s how they will justify showing it instead of something original. They’ll save the original content for non-sequel movies.
I just hope they don’t put a cars short in front of Monsters Inc 2. The only problem I have with this is that now I might have to see Cars 2, which honestly does not interest me at all, just to see this short.
