As we all know Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will be re-released in Disney Digital 3-D on October 2nd, 2009 and February 12th, 2010 respectively. I noticed there wsn’t a thread for it, so i started one here. You can discuss on how much they’ll change, will it be just a 3-D transfer, or will they ahve subtle changes like in rataouille’s DVd release, or will they be drastic, like new Renders? Also you can speculate if we’ll be seeing an old short like Knick Knack in 3-D (I really want to see it in 3-D!!), or something new. Lastly, I’d like to add taht i was searching through my old view masters, and I found my old Toy Story reels, it’s like having a Toy Story 3-D preview, and for those who haven’t seen these reels, I can tell you it has a ton of potential 3-D shots that look stunning!
That would be pretty cool to see an old short like Knick Knack be remastered and put in 3-D. ![]()
Knick Knack was actually produced in 3D and later re-released with a few edits, and without 3D. They showed the edited version, in 3D with the re-release of The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D, but I missed it. ![]()
I saw Knick Knack in Digital 3-D with The Nightmare Before Christmas,it looked freaking AMAZING and even better then NBC.So im sure The Toy Storys are gonna be Incredible.
The idea of seeing Toy Story 3 in itself is incredible, but in 3D it will look stunning. I saw Beowulf in 3D, and although the story wasn’t up to much, the graphics were astonishing. With a bit of Pixar magic, the cinema experience probably be changed forever. And I also love the idea of seeing an old short in 3D!
I cant wait to see these in 3D! I hope that they release Knick Knack again the 3D! That would be so totally awesome! ![]()
that would be cool
all of the movement scenes would be creepy
I’m now a bit unsure of the whole 3D thing. When I watched Journey to the Centre of the Earth in 3D, I actually found the 3D distracting. I’m sure the Pixar version of 3D should be of a very high standard, and perhaps Journey to the Centre of the Earth didn’t work well because it had real people in it as opposed to animated characters. It will still be interesting to see how Pixar handle it, either way.
The problem with Journey is one I knew would be an issue the first time I saw the trailer. Simply put, the director went out of his way to make shots specially for the 3D effect which felt awkward. Particularly the vertical shots since you’re watching it on a horizontal frame. This is of course not a worry with Pixar films as the artists there don’t sacrifice quality for 3D shots. Meet the Robinsons and the Hannah Montana concert are excellent examples of 3D films that work because they didn’t take any cheesy 3D shots that look odd though fantastic. The only thing I worry about is that these films were also originally meant for 3D which means they’re framed as such (seeing a character in 3D with the tip top of their head cut off looks very weird), but I’m confident that Toy Story (like Nightmare before Christmas - another good example) was filmed with this in mind and if not, the Pixar wizards will take care to remaster it properly.
Dash- You know, I hadn’t thought about seeing characters with the tops of their heads cut off in 3D! Good point.
OMG!
I just realized something.
From the beginning of when they announced they were coming back out in 3D, I thought that the 1st one was coming out this year!
Rofl nooo! Now I have to wait another year??!!
I really like this idea and hope they do it. I just want it to be the original, unedited Knick Knack.
I think it’s really awesome how they are going to do it in 3-d because it will get everyone really excited about toy story 3. dash, you are right about them cutting off the top of their heads, but i’m pretty sure they’d be able to fix that up
i’m not to sure about knick knack though. pixar could make a new 3-d short film just for those films ![]()
can’t wait to start seeing the advertisements for TS 1-2 in 3D
I can’t wait for this! I still remember one of my first memories was watching toy story. Its gonna be great to watch it again in 3-D.
Well I’m still not sure about this 3D thing either but if any theaters around me have that I’ll certainly give it a shot and go see them.
Wow, I gotta see this.
I hope it’s gonna be a cool revolution. ![]()
