Initially, Trixie was supposed to be the prominent female member of Lotso’s Gang, but was obviously switched to be a Bonnie’s Room toy. How do you think her character would have been if she was involved with Lotso? I think she would have been a more suitable type of toy than Stretch; however, I would have kept Whoopi Goldberg’s voice (Whoopi can sound much more menacing than Kristen Schaal), albeit with more lines.
I thought it was Buttercup, not Trixie…
Hmmm… I heard it was Trixie, but maybe you’re right. On that note, that would kind of be redundant if it was Buttercup, because with Lotso as the leader, that would be two ‘cute’ characters working for a bad cause.
How would that work for Rex, since it was always the intention that she would be his companion.
It’s Buttercup, Not Trixie NachoRulez is right.
Actually, based on the images in the Toy Story 3 Art Book, both Trixie and Buttercup were meant to be in Lotso’s gang at different times during production. I think Trixie was evil in the earliest form of the script, the one Andrew Stanton wrote.
No, it’s Trixie, because in the Art of TS3 there is a lineup of all the toys in Lotso’s gang, and Trixie is on of them. I don’t recall ever seeing Buttercup as a member of Lotso’s gang.
I thought it was Buttercup as well. Trixie is a dinosaur. Buttercup is a unicorn.
Proof that both were supposed to be villains at some point.
Problem solved; everybody wins! So now that there’s no need anymore to point fingers, let’s get back to the original topic: how would the characters have worked in their original roles?
I can see why it would’ve been neat to have them in Lotso’s gang, but I’m glad that the story turned out like it was.
Buttercup I guess would’ve played off of the whole unicorn thing more, which would’ve been funny, but a similar thing already happens with Lotso, so I’m glad they changed his role.
Trixie may have originally appeared to have been a friend to Rex, but then turned against him. Rex’s reaction to that might’ve been funny. But I’m glad they end up together a the end in the final film.
Interesting, I like the way it turned out with them in Bonnie’s room.
Oh wow I did’nt know that!
I kinda would have liked to see Trixie as an evil toy. I could see her turning over a new leaf when she hears more about Lotso and why he’s a jerk. Or ended up broken but brought in by Bonnie and fixed when Lotso just left her to be trashed…would have been kinda neat.
could someone post a pic of ken from that concept art?
Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich answered a question about Trixie’s original roll as villianess on his formspring.me account
Q: In ‘‘The Art of Toy Story 3’’ there is a colour-line of Lotso’s gang and Trixie is with them. Was Trixie originally going to be a bad guy?
A: We came up with the idea of a triceratops toy before we had a name or a gender. It seemed to me that Lotso would have surrounded himself with “tough” toys to do his bidding, and a triceratops fit the bill. After we designed her, though, she was really appealing and I thought it would be a shame for her to not end up Rex’s friend at the end of the movie. So we finally decided to make her one of Bonnie’s toys. There was also a time when we considered Buttercup being one of Lotso’s tough gang.
