Does anyone know where I can find/ get some really good plans for Toy Story paper models? I’m a huge fan of paper model making and have made several paper models of WALL•E and Up but not Toy Story. I’m in desperate need of a Hamm one and would greatly appreciate any help!
BTW, please feel free to post any your Toy Story paper models here!
Yeah, there are official patterns out there for Buzz and also the Aliens, which can both be found on the official site under Activities. Otherwise, I’ve never really seen any other ones, and I’ve definitely never seen a papercraft model for Hamm.
Of course, neither the Buzz or Alien models are especially complex in design, so they’re far from accurate.
Thanks guys. Yeah, I checked out the ones they had at Disney Family.com but those are moreover marketed to younger kids who can’t even read yet. As a professional model maker, I’m really hoping to find something along the Paper-replika.com lines, actual replica-like paper models.
I’m right there with you, to be honest. I would love to see some good quality models of the Toy Story characters. I’m rather surprised that there haven’t been many (if any) given how long the franchise has existed.
Incidentally, I am working on a custom paper model of Woody, but as I’m designing it from scratch with colored pencils and tape and the like, there’s no template or anything so I won’t be able to share the design. I’ve got his head done so far:
(Pardon the washed out pics. I took them quick just to show to one of my friends earlier. The flash really highlights every flaw and it drives me nuts…)
Wow, that is amazing, Toodles! See, this is what I’m talking about! More paper Toy Story paper models need to be at this level of expertise. Please post your plans online!
Also how do you make your own paper models? Is there like a pattern gen?
I draw everything out on paper from scratch. It’s not the most elegant way to do things, but I usually can get some pretty good results, and it’s satisfying to just experiment with paper to see what shapes I can get, such as the brim of Woody’s hat, or the curve to his face.
The downside to that is that I don’t create any templates or anything so I can’t share them. All my models are one of a kind. I know that most people design their papercrafts using 3D modeling software, but I’ve been doing my models this way so long that I don’t really feel like changing my technique. I know a popular program for creating the templates themselves is called Pepakura.
Kick ass work. This would look nice as a replacement head for woody. Any plans on molding that head up? The smoothness can be done post casting via a bit of sanding.
Regarding Toy Story Pepekura models, I havent seen any at all. I’ve seen some paper craft, but not the pepekura kind. Pep is for “pros” I say that lightly because with any paper, the level is determined by how much patience you have, hahaha.
But, I’m waiting for someone to take the models from the Mania game, and convert them. I just dont know how they do that. Thats where all the halo, and other game armor/helmets come from, so it can %100 be done with the TS-ers. I’m wanting models of Wheezy, Rocky, Robot, and Zurg.
I would already try to tackle this, as I’m decent on pepekura, but I dont know how the guys that do take 3d models from games, do it.
Wow, that’s impressive. I’d love to see better quality pics when you get a chance. I’m trying to understand where the folds are, in the cheeks especially, because even with the flash, it looks smoother than I would imagine you can get from a paper craft.
I wonder if this could be useful in helping me make a 3d model of it. all my attempts have failed, but this might help in terms of simplifying the geometry for me.
On the picture that shows the rear of his head, the line of his cheek is the fold. It’s a separate piece from the face that simply conforms to the shape of his cheek. It creates a somewhat bizarre looking hard edge depending on how you view the head, but from most angles, it looks quite convincing.
Here’s a pic that shows him from more of an angle, so you can see how the pieces connect:

A couple of spots are obviously a little off when viewed from certain angles, particularly in the area of his jaw, but overall I’m quite pleased with the shape.
Of course, I’ll spend some more time and take better quality pictures than don’t use the flash when he is completed.
Here’s a nice high-quality model of Woody I found this morning on Paperkraft.net. Apparently they’re going to be doing other Toy Story characters too, so that should be cool!
Thanks! I’ve actually gotten quite a bit more done on his body since I posted those pictures, but the project is kind of on hiatus at the moment. If I ever get around to finishing him, I’ll post some more pics then.
