Corner Gas is awesome! They showed it here on a niche channel at 5 in the afternoon for a short while. Because of that I only ever saw a few episodes, but I did see the DVD in a store recently. Now that you’ve reminded me I’m gonna go buy it
I love 30 Rock so much, I’m gonna take it out behind the middle school and get it pregnant.
I am not sure why Cyborg has shown up because Supes isn’t even in costume yet, so Cyborg shouldn’t even be born! I think Bruce has had a few cameos but Batman has never shown up. The Flash has also appeared and Green Arrow is in the show pretty much every episode. The current series shows that the Justice League is beggining to form so Bats should appear. Black Canary has also been referenced so I want her and GA to get together. This series is shaping up to be great. I also want to see a JLA live action TV show with the same cast as Smallville when Smallville ends.
Now I’m a fan of the police procedural genre, but I don’t follow the Law & Order series because it’s more ‘serious’ and ‘drier’ than more funnier or quirkier shows like Castle or NCIS. But after watching a few episodes here and there from Criminal Intent and SVU (but none that I can recall from the original series, which I heard ended, unfortunately), I find that a more dramatic and straight-up treatment of the genre (without the buddy cop banter or random explosions) can be just as entertaining.
For instance, I just watched a repeat of SVU’s ‘Swing’ episode. NYPD Detective Elliot, who’s the male protagonist of the series, is investigating a home intrusion case when he realises the perp is his daughter Kathleen, who he later finds on a playground swing dressed in a shower curtain (the swing being a visual metaphor for what will we later discover as her mental condition). Elliot hunts down a drug dealer who’s been selling his girl the pills responsible for her little escapade (and we later discover she’s actually an undercover), but that sidestory is quickly forgotten when Kathleen goes missing again. Meanwhile, the couple residing in the home of her break-in discover a precious pendant of theirs is missing and Kathleen has been found guilty of stealing it. Elliot discovers his daughter has bipolar disorder after recovering her from a drug den, and has to prove her condition to save her from going to jail, but Kathleen adamantly denies the mental illness. Elliot then has to go to his estranged mum who also suffers from the same condition and get her to testify in court that it runs in the family, a lot of skeletons in the closet are dug up, and his partner Olivia steps in to save the day.
The script is well-written with twists and turns that is the hallmark of a great story; Elliot’s mum’s anecdotes are beautifully-delivered by Isabel Gillies with heartbreaking pathos, and poor Dann Florek’s character looks likes he’s about to explode as he takes out his frustration on a metal signboard. The oftentimes difficult topic of mental illness, the costs of not dealing with a strained relationship, and the touching theme of helping out a friend (or passive-aggressive police partner) all comes together in this fantastic episode. It’s brilliant television, and if this is the standard of the SVU series, I just might consider watching more of it.
Law and Order is usually really great, but a few weeks ago my friends and I watched this one episode of SVU called “A Russian Love Poem” or something like that, and it was absolutely terrible. The acting was horrid, and the script was even more horrid. We could not stop laughing throughout the entire episode; it was that kind of bad. Oh my goodness, we quote this one episode just in passing all the time.
Oh, and last summer I swam with Vincent D’Onofrio who plays Bobby on Criminal Intent. It was at the Grand Floridian’s smaller pool last summer at Walt Disney World.
And I hate to admit this, but right now I am watching The Secret Life of the American Teenager. I haven’t watched it in months, but I figured I might as well tonight.
Pretty much the only shows I watch, I watch on DVD: Dexter (season 4 just came out! Whoot! ), Firefly, and Glee, although the latter is a guilty pleasure. I also watch Friends, when I see it on, and My Name is Earl.
Laugh out loud, I must give that a watch! Serious crime dramas are fun, but they’re even more fun when they get too self-important!
I love this show! It reminds me of Cars in some way, gently poking fun at ‘rednecks’ while also showcasing their admirable traits (like Southern hospitality, loyalty and friendship, etc.). Not to mention it stars the voice actor of one of Pixar’s most memorable villains…
I recorded like 6 Hurricane Katrina related programs on my TV, it being the 5th anniversary and everything. I am very interested in Katrina, after all I went on a mission trip this summer to New Orleans.
The Emmy’s are tonight! Normally I only care about the Oscars, but in the past few weeks I’ve gotten a new respect for television, so I plan on watching.
I’m so happy for Modern Family! They won so many amazign honors last night, including Best Comedy! I didn’t think it would be able to over come the popularity ofGlee, but it really is the better show and I was just so excited it won! Go Modern Family!
