TV Shows You Watch

Evangeline: The original was apparently a mega-hit. Your dad has good taste (apparently because he has the same opinion as me, haha :stuck_out_tongue:)! You should probably check this one out cos’ it has cool guys, hot chicks, and wicked-awesome action! I really want to see this, but it’s not on Oz FTA. :frowning:

Okay, so I just discovered what must be the most unintentionally funny political talkshow ever. It’s called The O’Reilly Factor.

Basically, this guy is a “traditionalist” political commentator, but really, he’s not helping out the Conservatives much. This guy is just so incredibly arrogant, close-minded, and an outright bully that it is almost comical. I get huge laughs out of watching him trying to outtalk his opponents and imposing his views upon them to the point of aggression. Check this out:

Jeremy Glick interview - Billy boy here not only spoke on behalf of the interviewee’s departed father, but actually cut the interview short in an act of cowardice.

Geraldo interview - Bill made a good point about illegal immigration (although I agree with the interviewee that the politicians used what is essentially a drink-driving offense and turned into an immigration issue), but the way he conducted a shouting match was not only unprofessional, it was downright rude towards the guest.

Richard Dawkins interview - Again, he is entitled to his view on religion and all that, but he makes very poor arguments for his case and didn’t let Mr Dawkins finish his statements.

Jesse Lange interview - This is by far the funniest and without a doubt the silliest. Bill has two guest speakers who have different opinions on an issue (ooh, good, so we get both sides of the story), but when he finds that one doesn’t share his opinion, he attempts to manipulate the other one, even in the face of empirical evidence. The best part was that Jesse came prepared, with a witty comeback from Bill’s own book!

I guess the point I’m trying to make is, for a show which proclaims itself as “The Spin-Free Zone”, it is incredibly biased and one-sided. Watch the O’Reilly factor if you really want to see how ignorant a man can be. I’m not against Conservatism (in fact, I agree with some of their values), but I’m against psychological intimidation and disrespectful conduct. And this joker just makes Conservatives look bad.

Now I’m going to watch The Daily Show With Stephen Colbert. That’s a much more intelligent show than this comedy programme. 8D

Haha! Bill O’Reilly is ridiculous to the point where I wonder if it’s mostly an act. You’ll be delighted to hear that he’ll be appearing on The Daily Show sometime this week and then Jon Stewart will be appearing on The O’Reilly Factor. They’ve done it before, and O’Reilly has proven he can take a joke, unlike most of the people on FOX News (take note, Glenn Beck). He also goes on David Letterman’s show occassionally and they have some great conversations. So I do suspect he might be exaggerating on his show.

That whole channel is a joke, really. Far from “Fair and balanced”. I think that The Chaser’s CNNNN tagline would be more appropriate:
We report, you believe”.

Flister: Haha, yeah, a guy on Wall-E Forums posted a link to Glenn Beck. These guys are frightening and should be taken off air posthaste. They just give Conservatives a bad name, and I think Stephen Colbert is a much more polite right-wing commentator (even though he’s playing it for laughs half the time!).

My dad is incredibly opposed to Fox and CNN, and while I agree Fox is incredibly biased, CNN at least attempts to be the BBC of America in fairness (at least, through my few impressions of watching American journalism). If anyone knows a balanced and respected news outlet in America, do let me know.

Oh man, could I go on and on about Glenn Beck and FOX News… :stuck_out_tongue:

I think it’s almost impossible to find an unbiased news outlet in America. I actually asked someone the same question yesterday and was told to check out a guy named Charlie Rose. I haven’t done that yet but I’ll tell you what I find when I do.

I usually like CNN, though I feel they’ve gone downhill over the last year or so.

I like to think it’s easier to find real news here, but the commercial channels are a complete write-off, ABC has always had a slight liberal slant, and did you notice that our #1 online news source in Australia (news.com.au) is part of FOX? Scary. On the other hand we always have SBS World News… monotone reporting, no opinions, just straight hard news. But wait - a conservative in Townsville tells me she thinks they’re also bias?? If SBS World News is bias then there’s no hope :stuck_out_tongue:

I just watched the premier of How I Met Your Mother.

I just want to know how he met their mother! We came pretty close.

Flister: I don’t know, SBS doesn’t seem too conservative (or liberal) to me. It’s the most balanced news programme, IMHO. Channel NewsAsia in Singapore is also pretty balanced (although since it’s government-owned, some say it is a propaganda conduit for the Singapore govt).

I just like staring at Lee Lin Chin’s hair. :stuck_out_tongue:

So have you heard that Stephen Col-Bear is my newest idol? He just wiped the floor with 'O Reilly’s face… without Bill even realising it! And owls!

Stephen Colbert on the ‘O Reilly Factor’

“What I do Bill, is I catch the world in the headlights of my justice.” 8D

Have a tall one, Bill. You just got served. 8D

Mars Rising: I love, love, love this show! There was a marathon of this show the other day on the Science Channel. Little back up info: I’ve always been a Astronomy, Science, Sci Fi freak. In middle school I wanted to be an astronaut, and I wanted to go to Mars so bad!

So basically this show is basically an inside look on everything involving the first manned mission to Mars. One episode was searching for Martian life/bacteria, the ship to take us to Mars, the challenges of journey to the red planet, staying alive, the mental state of the astronauts. So yeah, amazing show.

Oh, and it’s narrated by William Shatner.

As far as ones that are still on are concerned, I literally watch Doctor Who and that’s it. XD

I’ve been watching Sci Fi Science and Little House on the Prairie lately. Both are amazing shows!

I always watch Desperate Housewives.  :sunglasses:

Glee and Parenthood are on tonight! What a great evening of television

I’ve recently gotten hooked on The Real Housewives of DC (yay for trashy TV!)
it makes my hometown look so much more glamorous than it is in everyday life xD

Cops L.A.C. is my current guilty pleasure. It’s actually a pretty terrible police procedural that takes itself way too seriously while trying to be light-hearted at the same time. The result makes for corny drama that is so-bad-it’s-good. Watch out for high-pitched forced entry announcements, synchronised use of the Lord’s name in vain, and side-drifting police cruisers.

And it’s all set in Syd-ur-ney!

Cops L.A.C. Promo Sneak Peek

I’m watching this really intense episode of the Jerry Bruckheimer police drama Dark Blue, and the undercover cops abducted the girlfriend of a gangster who planted a bomb in the city so that they can interrogate her. At one point, one of their agents (who’s an undercover member of the gangster’s group) takes a photo of a map with the words ‘CDA’ written on it, and sends it to his team. The cops then start questioning the gangster’s girlfriend:

“What is CDA? What do the letters mean?”

Imagine my disappointment when it turns out the bomb wasn’t in Monstropolis.

I don’t normally watch much TV but I’m going to start watching the series Firefly shortly…wish me luck.

You should watch your favorite show, Robot Chicken.

Best of luck Bryko  Firefly is one of my favorite shows ever! Joss Whedon is a genius. There are so many one liners in that show, it’s not even funny. When you’re done, be sure to watch Serenity.

I’m halfway through season 4 of Dexter. The Trinity Killer is the coolest villain they’ve had on that show so far, IMHO.

I watched Serenity, and while it was confusing, it had a very original premise. Sort of like Cowboy Bebop, with Chinese culture overtaking Western civilisation and outer space. Fans of Nathan Fillion should also check out Castle, which I immensely enjoyed, but have only reached the first season so far.

Trivia: Nathan even dresses up as his character from Firefly in the Halloween episode from Firefly!

I was watching this British ‘home improvement’ show called How Clean Is Your House? It was pretty entertaining to see how filthy some abodes can get and it got me thinking of my own state of affairs as well (Gotta do some spring cleaning…). There was one moment where the narrator says the infamous “To Infinity and Beyond!” line to cheer the plucky home owner on. Unfortunately, it was during a shot where he was cleaning his toilet bowl. 8D

I’m a huge fan of Nathan Fillion, my mom and I just bought the first season of Castle on DVD a few weeks ago. TDIT, have you watched Firefly? If not, that’s probably why you found Serenity confusing. I saw the movie first, and while I enjoyed it, I was kinda lost. After watching the show, and then watching Serenity again, it makes a lot more sense. Only problem was, I knew going into Firefly that [spoil]Wash and Shepherd Book were going to die[/spoil]

Am I the only one here who watches the science channel?
