Whoahwhoahwhoah what a cliffhanger! Well excited for next week now
Ooooh, intrigued! British TG, or nationwide TG?
I just finished watching the entire series of ‘Come Fly With Me’ before it even premiered in Australia (no thanks, slow-*ss broadcasters…). Another winner from the creators and actors of ‘Little Britain’, it’s a mockumentary of ‘a-day-in-the-life’ of a fictional airport (filmed at the real-life ‘Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield’). Matt Lucas and David Walliams play multiple characters, each with their idiosyncrasies and charms that make this show such a delight to watch. The last two episodes had some pretty touching moments, and brought the series to a definitive close. Although I’m holding out they’ll make a second season!
I admit it, I have royal fever.
I’ve been watching a lot of programs on BBC America, about the Royal Family. I already have the wedding set to record!
A few day’s ago I watched World’s Dumbest. It tell’s about the dumbest criminals, athletes, celebrities, etc. It’s pretty good.
Those types of shows are always funny to watch.
That show was brilliant!
Although, bit of a cultural pointer, Doncaster isn’t actually in Sheffield . It’s nearby, but it’s a part of South Yorkshire.
Yah, ah know. Little Britain reference
So I watched the Will and Kate wedding. Does this count as a TV show? Kinda disappointed they sped through their reading of their vows and that balcony kiss. But Kate really had the charisma and composure on her big day, and Will was, well, Will.
Interestingly, my brother said someone was waving a massive Malaysian flag during the pre-wedding street footage. Malaysia was a former Crown Colony.
Ah… the marvels of monarchic monogamy. <3
I missed the entire thing because I was at work! Although I heard the odd comments from the collegues, mostly “what was she wearing…?!”
Bet it was a good watch though

lolz, I did not understand most of this sentence! Silly American me! However, I’m glad to of learned about this!
TDIT: Yes, I watched it too. I have a large interest in monarchies, especially the British one. So I enjoyed watching it!
I was getting ready for work, when my mom was preparing for a royal wedding watch it my aunt. Tea, scones, biscuts, finger sandwhiches, quiche, strawberries…I was so upset that i couldn’t stay and watch! But I did when I got home.
I wish Kate and Wills, erm The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the best in their future!
I am of the firm belief that the British monarchy is an outdated institution of marriage and bloodlines, and that has little to do with innate capabilities or talent. Or simple meritocracy for that matter.
I also believe that Australia should be a republic and not be ruled by its former colonial master, even though most of its ‘culture’ has much to do with Britain instead of the Aboriginal culture (the Cockney accent, the pub grub, the cricket and the footy, the building architecture, etc.). Just like how much of mainstream American culture is influenced by Irish, Italian and British traditions instead of Native American, or Brazilian culture to Portugese instead of the Amerindians.
But I digress. As much as Australia is similar to Britain in some ways, I believe that it is ‘grown-up’ enough not to be tied to Mother England’s apron strings.
But my brother holds the view that the royals give people a dream (much like how we admire actors and rock stars), and it’s great for the British economy (tourism dollars and all that).
Personal convictions aside, it was a splendid ceremony. They really pulled out all the stops; I was surprised how little security Will had (only an advanced scout and a rear tail) until my brother pointed out the coppers spaced every 50 metres along the route.
And I didn’t realize how huge Westminster was! I have actually been to Buckingham Palace in London and it is exactly as I remembered it (we saw the ‘changing of the guards’). Only now there’s like a million people cramming its front gates to catch a glimpse of the couple.
There’s a comedy sketch team called ‘The Chasers’ that originally intended a simul-broadcast where they would lampoon the ceremony. Clarence House (the private office of the Prince of Wales) issued a ban on the broadcast in respect for the occassion, and a lot of ‘freedom of speech’ advocates and republicans were up in arms about it.
And while I am anti-monarchist and a passionate satirist (Evidence: My youtube and dA accounts), I have to agree with the decision. I read they sung a rather offensive song about Princess Diana that was neither smart nor funny, but plain rude. Some of their sketches, like the one they snuck through the APEC summit to test security, were brilliant. Others, like the ‘Make a Wish’ parody, were just downright insensitive.
While I can’t be entirely sure whether the planned broadcast would be light-hearted or mean-spirited, this is one important and solemn event for two people that doesn’t deserve to be made a mockery of.
TDIT, I agree with a lot of what you’re saying actually. I don’t think a lot of people are really feeling the force with the monarchy to be honest-I’m British myself, and yet running through my facebook feed, theres several moans and groans about the wedding, and how it’s over the top. I would safely assume that most of the British public don’t really give a stuff about what the royals are doing.
However, we’ve earnt a ton in tourism, and we got a day off. So financially it looks good, and right now, earning money is a big deal in the current situation.
I’ve always been intrigued about culture. I didn’t realise that the US has so much British influence…
How about I (almoat)got away with it.
The three stooges

America approves. (Yes. I speak for America)
definedancing: Yes, America is heavely influenced by Britain, even though we kicked the redcoats out centuries ago. After all, the Founding Fathers were not only heavily influenced by French Philosophers and the Ancient Greeks, they also looked to British philosopher John Locke and the Magna Carta when forging their own nation.
But Britain had it’s mark more on the original colonies/East Coast. Where I live for example (California) we’ve had very little British touch. Things here are much more Yankee/Mexican/Chinese inspired culture wise.

Awesome, thanks for that . I just find that kindof thing so interesting!
