TV Shows You Watch

Well, my little sister watches Disney channel, nickelodeon, and cartoon network pretty much all the time, so I’m completely sick of anything on those channels. The one I hate the most is without a doubt, iCarly. I have never laughed while watching it (and I have to watch it a lot when I’m babysitting).

As for shows I like, they are Family Guy, Futurama, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, South Park, The Office, Whitest Kids u’ Know (mostly from Youtube because it’s hardly on TV anymore), and of course…

I watch many TV shows, including;

The Simpson’s, Prison Break, NCIS, The Bill, Pimp My Ride, Viva La Bam. That’s just a few.

This. (and Hannah Montana and That’s So Raven. GAH). Fortunately, to save money my parents canceled the kids channels. But there’s still a free to air one and now endless episodes of Tracy Beaker. GRRRR

I watched the pilot episode of Ashes to Ashes yesterday (well, actually, two days ago, since it’s already past midnight here) on ABC. I know the Brits have got it earlier than Oz (in fact, I think Season 2 is airing there now), so count yourselves lucky! Anyway, pretty similar to Life on Mars (I also watched the pilot episode when it aired 2007); cop gets killed in modern times and travels back to the past and gets paired with obnoxious politically-incorrect copper Gene Hunt, brilliantly played by Philip Glenister. This time, it’s a female detective and single mother, Alex Drake (the comely Keeley Hawes), who is shot in the head by a mysterious stranger who knows her by name. She finds herself transported to the 80s, the decade of cheesy pop ballads and even cornier dress fashion, whereupon she discovers she apparently applied for a transfer to Gene’s department. And so begins our duo’s misadventures in crime, all in Hunt’s souped-up Quattro to take on the mean streets of London old-school style. If the first episode is anything to go by, it seems this new series has a more funny and breezy feel to it, probably to reflect the light-hearted and over-the-top tone of cop shows from that decade. No matter, the point is, A2A succeeds in balancing self-reflecting humour with serious mystery intrigue (WTH is with that clown?) to deliver another winner for British drama. Great replacement for Spooks on Monday nights!

I also recently became a fan of Rescue Special Ops. Hot on the heels of recent cop shows Rush (Channel Ten) and City Homicide (Channel 7), Channel 9 premieres its new Australian drama that manages to stand out from the crowd by offering a novel twist on the standard police procedural formula. Coming off as a cross between the fire brigade, paramedics, and critical response units, the members of the ‘Special Ops Rescue’ team go where few of us dare tread. Be it a rescue-search operation in the Blue Mountains (which was the plot of the pilot, and ripped straight from the headlines), talking down a base jumper from the top of Sydney Tower (the second episode, I even recognise some of the streets!), or saving a mob boss from a nightclub inferno (next episode), these daredevils risk their lives to save others, while juggling life, love and career. Like A2A, it’s more ‘relaxed’ and easygoing than its direct competitors Rush and Homicide, but knows when to pull the emotional punches if need be (the first ep’s plane crash survivor plotline was a particularly memorable one). I’ll be seeing the next few episodes, but for the moment, it looks promising.

So now I’ve started watching Star Trek: The Animated Series. It’s not bad, all things considered. Taking into account it was made in 1973 with kiddies in mind. It’s cheaply animated to say the least, and sometimes it can get kinda silly. But the characters are drawn pretty well, and most of the stories are decent. Plus the original cast came back to do the voice acting. In fact some of those episodes I would have loved to have seen in the live action series.

I don’t watch that much TV anymore, but I sometimes watch Animal Precinct or House when its on.

^same for me. I watch a lot of prime time history and discoverychannel (man vs wild, ftw!)
What I almost never fail to miss is adult swim. Metalocalypse, venture brothers, mighty boosh, robot chicken, and to a lesser extent, ATHF, superjail, and harvey birdman.

I also don’t watch as much primetime TV as I used to (I started cutting back since last week). There’s just way too many ad spots on Oz TV nowadays (probably due to viewers’ migration to the Internet), and they keep #$%*ing around with the schedule so much.

TV: “XYZ, at an all-new time of 12 am”
TDIT: “You just changed the timeslot two weeks ago!”
TV: "And the TV premiere of “Biggest Survivor: Celebrity Edition”.
TDIT: “That’s just to replace your axed afternoon current-affairs show!” throws remote through TV screen

Okay, I didn’t do the last action. But I do heckle the TV a lot.

I’m excited about new seasons for Lie to Me and Castle this fall. I hope Oz imports 'em fast, or I’m gonna start resorting to “legally-questionable” means.

As of now, I’m hooked on a Canadian police drama called “Flashpoint”. It’s like Oz’s “Rush”, except set in Toronto instead of Melbourne. The themes remain the same. though; Actions With Consequences, post-traumatic stress and coping with a high-risk and emotionally-intense occupation, and how their job affects their relationships with their colleagues and family. I just watched the pilot (where they negotiate with a gunman who has taken a bystander hostage), which is apparently based on a real-life incident a few years ago. Needless to say, this show doesn’t settle for easy or happy endings, and no one comes out of an incident unaffected. Brilliant acting and script, and I absolutely can’t wait to watch the next episode.

I also watch Robot Chicken. I have the Star Wars episodes on iTunes. They’re soooo funny! I love the bits with the bounty hunters. Robot Chicken is definately one of my favorite shows.

So I’m a big fan of the show South Park now. You have to love the characters and the endless ridicule of human stupidity xD. I find it surprising that all of its episodes are available to watch for free legally, but I love the show so much that I’m buying the Season DVD’s just to support South Park (but there’s no advertisements on the DVD’s unlike the site, sooo there’s another bonus).

Kinda hate people who refuse to watch/love South Park for the shock humor and completely miss the moral behind a good episode.

I used to watch South Park but I find that it kinda ‘drags’ now, although the aesops are still there everything else is pretty much the same, same as Family Guy, except that never even had the morals…

I’ve recently rediscovered Avatar: The Last Airbender, damn that show is impressive, if there had been a show with that quality of writing and animation shown when I was a kid I’d be a much better writer/artist now…

I’m currently addicted to LOST. Never saw the appeal until I watched it for myself this year, now I’m totally obsessed, and I’m actually having an online LOSTathon right now, trying to get caught up to LOST.

Other than that, I only have a few shows that I make a point to watch, the rest of the time, it’s either whatever my siblings want to watch, or the odd episodes of Seinfeld, Baby Diaries and Adoption Stories. The shows I watch consistently are:

LOST
Torchwood
Doctor Who
Heroes
Smallville
Being Human
FRIENDS re-runs

and on the internet, Star Trek: TOS

Yeah, Channel 9 does this all the time. It’s super annoying. They removed Dance Your Ass Off after just one episode, but I think they did put it on the new Go channel as a consolation, lol. And Channel 7 does this with TV Burp (my guilty pleasure), which isn’t even on TV this week. D=

I’ve heard good opinions for this show. My friends showed me the Mario GTA clip a while back, and I thought it pretty funny.

I’m with you on that one, SP is offensive, yes, but there’s a point to all the shock tactics. It’s meant to wake you up to the ridiculousness of the world, and especially contemporary pop culture.
Just yesterday, I caught the Jonas Bros episode and got a massive kick out of Disney being lampooned for the early sexualisation of (especially) young impressionable girls. That’s what’s the trouble with most ‘kid’s show’ nowadays, they appeal too much to the middle-school/high school teenybopper crowd. What happened to all the good ol’ fashioned adventure stories of the 90s? I guess that has been replaced with ‘ghetto speak’ and the latest hip fashion accessories. Ugh. End rant Oh, and [spoil]Mickey[/spoil]'s cameo was hilarious.

Haha, FG actually advocates bad ones! Sorry if I offended any fans, but I can’t stand their random pop culture jokes for the latest seasons. They inspire a chuckle or a groan for me at most, but the earlier seasons were more brilliant and had smarter ‘observational humour’.

As I’ve said in your Art thread, you’ve inspired me to seek out a copy. When I eventually hunker down to watch it, I’ll let you know my opinion.

I want to see this too, MishCrazy (BTW, welcome!). I watched my first DW episode last night (it was the Manhattan one) and I was actually impressed by the production values. I think I’ll tune in for a few more before deciding whether to make a commitment, but if I’m gonna keep up, I have an impressive history to study (it’s not called the longest-running TV show for nothing). Torchwood looks cool as well.

Oh my gosh, Rachel! You watch that too? No way! My brother and I tune in every week (it’s the only show we both enjoy watching together), and he was disappointed when I told him that last week’s ep may be the final one (The Wiki said it was due to poor ratings).
I have not watched the original Harry Hill UK version, but Ed Kavalee is funny enough (I particularly enjoy when he makes fun of the Rush episodes). They kept juggling the timeslot around (first 8:30, then 9:00, then back to the original 8:30 if I’m not mistaken), which was frustrating coupled with the fact that it was shown at the tail end of the primetime period. Personally, I preferred it over Double Take.

I’m super duper excited (yeah, I’m easy to impress) for the return of Castle next Monday and the debut of the spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles the day after in the U.S.! I’m not sure whether Channel 7 (which seems to be the ABC’s partner in Oz) will pick up the second season for Castle, but there are promos on Ten that NCIS LA will premiere on September 30th Down Under a week after the U.S. bow.

I’m a huge, huge fan of Castle’s classic murder mysteries and the romantic pairing of the obnoxious novelist and the no-nonsense detective, so I’ll definitely be tuning in if it gets aired here!

And I like L.A. as the setting of cop shows in general, and I ‘don’t mind’ NCIS, so I may give this spin-off (pardon the pun) a shot.

I also love the style of the promos:

Castle ‘Everybody Loves Me’ promo

NCIS Abby teaser

Awh, and the song choices too, One Republic and Bee Gees! This is gonna be good… I just know it!

Oh yeah, TV Burp is silly but fun. Last week’s episode was great. I was laughing so much when it played the voiceover guy’s accent that changes mid-sentence (1:43), and the contestant on Millionaire Hotseat who was acting like a ventriloquist dummy (3:49). I’m so bummed to find out Channel 7 has cancelled it. ;__;

Wow, there are other versions of TV Burp? I only thought it was a Harry Hill thang! Oh, I do love Harry Hill. The massive collar, the platform shoes, the bald head and massive glasses…Watching stuff like Coronation Street and EastEnders isn’t the same without him making fun of it afterwards! I hope he makes a new series.

And with this year’s Big Brother now finally over, I suddenly have a lot of free time in the evenings on my hands.

Big Brother or TV Burp, which one is better? There’s only one way to find out…

cookie to anyone who can complete this

Haha, my favourite part was the first gag, I can’t stay awake during Idol, either!

[spoil]FIGHT![/spoil]

I’ve watched bits of it before on YT. I’ll have mine with chocolate chips, thanks.

hands over cookie to thedriveintheatre

You know where has the best kids’ TV shows? Italy. Every afternoon, after walking the length and breadth of Rome, me and my two friends would lounge about in our hotel room watching the only channel that actually worked on our TV. Our favourite animated show was Cochinella, which has the most catchy theme tune ever and is generally very, very funny, but also quite shocking at times! Like, there was one episode in which the little girl, Cochinella, kept beating up her pet dog, and then when she went missing, the rest of the family beat him up! Properly! Obviously we had no idea what was going on as it was all in Italian, but it seemed pretty unfair to me.

Love watching ‘Mind Your English’, ‘Allo! Allo!’, ‘Mr. Bean (duh!)’, ‘Top Gear’ and some of English TV shows except ‘Big Brother’.

It’s been a long time since I watch the REAL teen TV show such as Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Raven and Boy Meets World.

Oh dear, that’s pretty disturbing they’re trivialising animal abuse to kids… :open_mouth:

MYE is a classic, I’ve only watched a few intermittent episodes, but I remembered one particularly brilliant misunderstanding involving the meaning of “circular letter”.
Mr Atkinson is this generation’s Charlie Chaplin, and of course, Top Gear is the ultimate TV show for petrolheads!
Oh, and I despise Big Brother. I don’t get the idea of inane voyeurism. Why watch a bunch of people spend time at home when I already do it every evening?

I just watched the Director’s Cut of the Glee pilot, and although it didn’t quite move me to tears (although it came pretty close, gosh, I should get more in touch with my feminine side!), it was very heartwarming. And any TV show that inspires you to discover and pursue your passion earns a star in my book.

I also watched Rush (this week’s ep was okay compared to last week’s double-feature illegal-racing/security van heist cracker), and Burn Notice after. The latter may prove interesting to me. I watched the pilot two years ago, and didn’t really catch up, but watching this week’s ep (Michael intimidates a local hoodie and his gang into leaving town and a sibling pair alone) just makes me want to watch the first season…

So much TV, so little time.
