Up Clip: Ditch 'Em

Another new clip from Up has been released! This particular video was shown on the Disney Channel some days ago, but it only recently became available for viewing on the internet. You can currently find it on the front page of the official Disney website here:

You can also learn more about the clip itself via Upcoming Pixar here:

I am unsure as to whether or not this particular clip is available to view on YouTube yet, but, if it isn’t, I captured a few screenshots from the video for your viewing pleasure. Please note that spoilers are included in these shots.

SPOILERS AHOY!!!

Finally. It’s a very cute clip. My only issue is that I think the parts with Carl running should have some frantic music or something, and have him going as fast as he can.

This is probably my favourite Up clip thus far. Dug the Dog is bound to be one of the funniest Pixar characters ever to grace the screen

[spoil]The line “I do ever so want the ball” made me laugh so hard for some reason. The formality and randomness of his speech (or of his thoughts, in this case) is truly laughter-inducing.[/spoil]

Was that clip completely finished or what?
The animation is awesome, but the sound effects just didn’t seem that complete to me… Like the part when they ditch Kevin and Dug and you see them brushing through the brushes, you don’t hear the sound of the bushes, and the stomping of their feet just doesn’t sound that right to me… Anyone else kinda thought about that?

I find it funny that these clips make people love Dug and Kevin more. Personally, they just make me love Carl more. Not that I don’t love Kevin or Dug. Actually, I don’t have an opinion on Kevin yet, and I think Dug is brilliant. The way they made him speak in a strange, almost rambling fashion is very fitting and original.

But I seriously, that was the best response ever to an unwanted face.

“…afternoon.”

Just pure awesome~

…what is it with me and picking bitter, dour characters to fangirl over?

Not to name names (cough Dreamworks cough), but if this scene had been done by an inferior animation company, Carl would probably react by giving that cliched (and, might I say, cheesy) “scream of surprise” after Dug shows up. I agree that Pixar handled this scene really well.

He did the “scream of surprise” when he saw Russell on his porch and when he saw Kevin. Pixar is just better at comedic timing with things like that.

Precisely what I meant. In the scene from the Ditch 'Em clip, the “scream of surprise” wouldn’t have been appropriate, and Pixar knew that the timing wouldn’t be right (or, at least, that there was a more effective solution).

So as of now we’ve had 6 clips from the actual film:

The lifting scene on The View

Meet Russell. - 2:20

I’ve always wanted to try this. - 0:55

Meet Kevin. - 2:01

Meet Dug. - 1:50

And this Ditch 'em clip, about 2 minutes. So we’ve seen about 10 minutes of the film already.

Is there anymore? Do you think there will be more clips from the film? Do you think this is like the new way of marketing for Pixar? Aside from behind the scene and specially made clip (like WALL-E vignettes) I remember with Ratatouille, there was one long sequence (about 10 minutes) released. With WALL-E there were 3 full clips, 2 with WALL-E on Earth and 1 with WALL-E and EVE on the Axiom.

With Up, Disney releases 5 clips from the film already, each introducing a character (Russell, Kevin, Dug) or their interaction (Ditch 'em) aside from 3 Upisodes and 5 behind the scene (3D, Lost World, Unlikely Heroes, Kevin, Dug) featurettes and countless TV spots. What do you think about that, is it overwhelming, is it giving away too much? If there is more do you think Muntz and the Spirit of Adventure or Ellie will have one?

And the amusing fact is, the funniest and the saddest bits are still in mystery, yet on some sites they say there will be nothing new to see in Up with so many clips.

These clips haven’t even scratched the surface. All these clips do is introduce the main characters. We haven’t even seen some of the characters in clips for more than 5 seconds. Right after the first half of the movie (where most, if not all of these clips take place) the action and main conflicts start kicking in.

Hmmm I’m not sure if I found the right clip because when I went to Disney.com, I got a Movie Surfers clip about it, mostly with bits I’ve already seen…
