( What’s the deal with the picture of all the people around the airplane? Maybe a search and rescue comes after them or something. Heheh…I actually came up with that one.)
That production art is amazing! Sometimes I wish Pixar would actually make a 2D film in that sort of style, since it’s so lovely to look at!
Thanks for the links, Bryko614. I didn’t look at the storyboards because I don’t want to spoil the film for myself too much, but if the colour scheme and general feel of these pieces of art is transferred to the film itself, it should be great.
The more of this production I see, the greater my interest in the film grows. As I stated on Upcoming Pixar:
“The models are magnificent, the artwork vibrant and intriguing, and the storyboards energetic and playful. Out of all of these, I particularly like the storyboards; and, since we’re on the subject of artwork, I’ll say right now that some of those conceptual paintings look very “Miyazaki-esque” (which isn’t surprising) — at least, they do to me*.”
*There are a couple of compositions up there that just scream “Totoro” to me. I believe Pete Docter did mention that they referred to Miyazaki’s films for reference, so it’s only natural that their research would show in Up.
Thanks for sharing this information with us, Bryko614!
This is an excellent way to promote the movie - kind of like looking at all of the photos and pamphlets someone has brought back from travelling. Ellie reminds me of Helen Parr, not just in looks but also with her adventurous spirit. The balloon house going through a lightning storm, that’s just going to look so good especially in 3D. Lou Romano’s art direction on this movie is making me salivate…
And some higher res photos would be amazing because we’d be able to look at the drawings in more detail.
Rachel - My first thought upon seeing Ellie was that she resembled Helen Parr, as well. I wonder how much of her personality reflects that of Elastigirl?
So awesome. I echo everyone’s sentiments that the art is gorgeous! With every new piece I see from this movie - whether it’s a toy, artwork or clip - just makes me that much more excited to see it!
Mitch - I’ve definitely heard a lot of Miyazaki comparisons and I think I remember reading Pete Docter mentioning it as well somewhere. Definitely not bad thing, as I love Miyazaki. Miyazaki with a Pixar touch sounds good to me
CoCoMeister - Yeah, I think that Pete Docter mentioned that Miyazaki was an influence when he (Mr. Docter) came to speak at the San Diego Comic-Con last year, as well.
Wow! As if I wasn’t excited enough already, this ups (pardon the pun) my anticipation. Gorgeous storyboards, and the two conceptual pieces of [spoil]Carl eating and watching TV alone[/spoil] are very moving.
Bryko614 - What a great timeline. The transition of Carl as a character and as a personality – from energetic… to diluted – is most interesting, if not a bit heart-wrenching.
I visited Disney World to see the exhibit as well. I was so amazed with all the concepts. These are great pictures by the way. I took alot of pictures. I could get some up if you want, but I think you got the pictures covered for everyone.
Anyway, I went in that little animation show thingy in the animation studio before you see the exhibit to see the little sneak peek of Up. Hehe, when Pete Doctor came on the screen, he was like “Hi, I’m Pete Doctor…” I was like, “Hi Pete…” Heh…
Well, after that was over, I literally ran to the exhibit…I was in awe of the number of things they were showing. My father was with me during the time. And looking at the exhibit, he seemed very interested in the film. Which is quite a plus if you ask me.
And I was skimming through the storyboards after staring at the Toy Story 3 movie poster for an hour…(hehe…I’m weird), and now I’m anxious to see it. Man, I can’t wait for the movie! <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/youwhaaa.gif” alt=“o_0;;” title="You
