Upcoming Pixar recently let us know about some sneaky marketing tactics Disney organised to coincide with the 2008 San Diego Comic Con - as someone reporting for Slashfilm posted, an elevator in their hotel was decked out to promote Up. See for yourself…
It’s great to see Disney/Pixar thinking outside the box when it comes to marketing and I can’t wait to see what else they will come up with. I’d love it if they could get take to the skies with a skywriter plane and write “UP” and then the release date, over major capital cities in each country. =)
Yeah, the announcer guy who often asked questions to Pete Docter today mentioned something about that elevator.
I did not get to see it, because I had no idea where this elevator is, and I did not feel like getting up only to loose my seat trying to look for it. lol
That’s just awesome. Seriously. The fact that Disney look as though they’re going to really put some effort into this marketing campaign must be a good sign.
Wow! Yeah, they coulda gone with the skywriters and all that too, but this is waaay better in terms of film-related creative advertising than any other studios. Where others would just settle for bus-stop banners or giant building posters, Pixar actually commissioned an airship for promotions! Holy cow!
About time we saw some marketing too. We’re just weeks away from Pixar’s next masterpiece…
The Incredible - That’s neat that you saw it in person!
Awesome video, by the way. Thanks for posting up the link to it! The pilots sure looked like they were having fun. I was trying to spot Pixar Animation Studios in the clip, but couldn’t find it. Ah well.
Yeah, it was pretty darn exciting when I walked out to get ready for work when I looked up and saw a beautiful blimp in the sky advertising Up. I wanted to take a picture, but then I remember I took out my camera from my car that morning! Argg.
The video is mostly of the South Bay part of the SF Bay, but Pixar is on the East Bay. From the video part is looks like San Jose area. Then from the pictures part it looks like Silicon Valley area, they even show Stanford (booooo, I’m a Cal fan).
This is great marketing. I’m sure everyone in the San Francisco Bay will have seen it by the time the film comes out; it’s really unfortunate they can’t do this kind of marketing for Up all across the country!
At the Kodak theater, they had an Up billboard in view right under the Hollywood sign, If anybody took a picture there, they would have no choice but to have the billboard in there too that’s what I call good advertising…
