Awesome!! Made my day. Surprised to see Evangelion at #22 , but pleasantly surprised. I should watch that series…
TRON Legacy debuts number 2, I am disappointed for that, I hope it had performed better on blu-ray sales
Wow, Disney’s lighting everyone else up.
Congrats to Tangled! Such great news. Tangled was such afunny movie.
My anticipations for Tron were much better than i had thought. They’re a short line away from Tangled, hopefully they can keep that.
I’m so happy that the top 2 movie sales now are Disney.
The Sales Report From The Week Ending on April 10
DVD Sales: Tangled in Tight Race on Top
Despite having to deal with several new releases, Tangled was able to remain on top of the sales chart this week, albeit in a close race. It sold an additional 807,000 units over the week for a total of 4.27 million units, while its revenue rose to $65.17 million. Tron: Legacy opened in second place with 784,000 units / $12.54 million. I was expecting more; however, it did do very well on Blu-ray and as part of a double-shot. Little Fockers was close behind with 696,000 units / $11.83 million during its opening weekend. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader sold 478,000 units / $8.47 million during an abbreviated week of sales, as it only hit the home market on Friday. Hopefully this will help it hold on next week. Black Swan added 184,000 units / $2.76 million over the week for totals of 817,000 units / $12.24 million after two.
The re-release of Tron missed the top five, but it landed in seventh place with 109,000 units / $1.85 million, which is excellent for a special edition of what is essentially a cult film. The final new release to chart was Friday Night Lights: The Fifth Season. In terms of units sold, it landed in twelfth place with 92,000; however, thanks to its TV on DVD pricing, it earned sixth place in terms of spending with $2.11 million.
Blu-ray sales, TRON Legacy Number 1
Blu-ray sales were less competitive, despite Tron: Legacy sales being split between a single and a double-shot release. The former sold 940,000 units, which was more than enough to top the chart, and more than it sold on DVD. Tangled sold an additional 300,000 units to lift its running tally to close to 2 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was right behind with 260,000. Tron and Little Fockers finished in fourth and fifth places with 180,000 units and 170,000 units respectively.
Meanwhile, the Tron: Combo Pack earned sixth place with 125,000 units.
Tangled just sqeezed out the number one spot huh?
Harry Potter 7.1 gets first place, Tangled continues to make big business, The Incredibles and Cars return to the chart
The Sales Report From The Week Ending on April 17
DVD Sales: Deathly Helps Bring Life to DVD Sales
Despite coming on out on Friday, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I easily won the race on the DVD sales chart this week defeating new releases and holdovers alike. It sold 2.66 million units for total sales of $37.55 million. It will be interesting to see how well it holds up during its first full week of release. Meanwhile, Tangled was pushed into second place with 538,000 units for the week and 4.81 million units after three. Its total sales grew to $74.30 million and it could become the first DVD release of 2011 to reach $100 million in sales. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader grew by double-digits during its first full week of release to land in third place with 532,000 units / $9.22 million, giving it totals of 1.01 million units / $17.69 million. Tron: Legacy fell to fourth with 266,000 units / $4.49 million for the week and 1.05 million units / $17.03 million. Country Strong opened in fifth place with 214,000 units / $3.43 million. This is better than expected.
There were no other new releases to chart. However, there were a few important older releases to return to the chart thanks to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I.
Blu-Ray Sales: Harry Potter, Tangled, Narnia, TRON, The Incredibles and Cars
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I was even more dominant on Blu-ray selling 1.5 million units. The next best release was The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at 230,000 for the week and nearly 500,000 in total. Tron: Legacy sold just over 200,000 units, while The Incredibles sold just under 200,000 units. Tangled added another 120,000 units in sales for fifth place, while Cars just missed the top five with 100,000 units.
Finally, Country Strong was well back with 40,000 units, but this is still good for this type of release.
Harry Potter is number 1 again, but TANGLED sold over 1 million DVD copies in its 4th week, that is insane, Tangled is clearly the winner, such a huge increase
PS1: most of the movies listed are animated films, they clearly had a big increase on their sales because of Easter
PS2: Now, Toy Story 3 is officially the BEST SELLER DVD of 2010, it outpaced Avatar sales
