Vacations

I am in Virginia for Thanksgiving. Going to Buffalo NY for New years. So far the only thing I have planned in 2009 is a trip to North Carolina in April - May. It is hard to book time off for long vacations for me due to work.

I hope you enjoy your vacation TDIT. Hope you have fun and I also hope your trip back is quick and safe.

Thanks guys! It’s real nice of you all to “see me off”.

Well, this is probably my last post before I leave for the airport. Sorry for the late notice, but as I have mentioned, I’ve been busy these past few days, so yeah…

The Drive-In Theatre
will return in 13 days time! Until then, have a great holiday! So long, folks!

Oh, man. I missed your farewell, thedriveintheatre. I hope you have fun on your holiday - tell us all about it, won’t ya! =)

Hey TDIT. I hope you enjoy your vacation. We’ll miss ya dude.

To two of my very first few pals on this forum, thanks for your well wishes! That’s so sweet…

But now, I’M BACK BABY! :sunglasses:

I may tell of my trip in detail later when I overcome my severe jet lag, but in a nutshell, it was an enriching experience and a rewarding journey. It’s great to be back… if only for a brief moment, as mentioned earlier, I’m leaving for Penang next week… :frowning:

Oh well, that gives me a lotta time doesn’t it?

cool!
i’m intested. the reason why is for another thread

Looking forward to hearing all about it, thedriveintheatre! And off travelling again? Looks like you’re leading a very adventurous life at the moment! And I wished you well, too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you arrived home safe and sound, thedriveintheatre. Looking forward to reading what you got up to in Europe. And you’re off again after that? You’re such a jet-setter. :stuck_out_tongue: Glad to have you back here - this place was slightly less cool without you. =)

Was that to me? If so:  And you’re welcome.

Wall-E - So you’re suggesting I start a separate vacation thread? Anyway thanks for the welcome!

lizardgirl - Yup, I am quite the explorer. Partly because my parents drag me into it. Thank you for your welcome!

rachelcakes1985 -

That’s nice to know. :sunglasses:

Well, you and TSS. But yes, that was addressed to you and him.

Well everyone, looks like I’ll be off again to The Pearl of the Orient. My family is hustling as we’re leaving for the airport in five-ten minutes, so this is probably my last post before my return on the 21st (unless I borrow my dad’s laptop and use the hotel’s wi-fi). So long, suckers! (Nah, I didn’t mean that…) :stuck_out_tongue:

“I’m leeaaaving… on a jet plane. Don’t know when I’ll be back again…”

Hey TDIT. I can’t believe I haven’t posted this, but welcome back. Its nice to have you back on the forums again.

How was your vacation TDIT?

Have a nice time (again) thedriveintheatre! Whenever I hear that song, I always imagine Steve Buscemi’s voice singing it, like he does in Armageddon.

You’re a little late, pal. :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve left again for Penang, but I’ll appear from time to time depending on when I can ‘steal’ my dad’s lappie and whether there’s an available Internet connection (like now, at my grandparents’ place). But thanks for the welcome anyway! I’ll “be back” on the 21st in Singapore and civilisation, but for now I’m just chilling, eating the delish local food and taking my uncle’s Miata for spins around the tropical island.

Al-Bob: If you meant the Eastern Europe trip, it was quite good! I 'trotted around the mostly Soviet Bloc countries and cities like Hungary, Budapest, Frankfurt, Vienna, Lucerne, Berlin, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Krakow, Prague Lipzig Dresden, Potsdam (sorry, I’m bad at Geography, so I may be mentioning countries and their cities at the same time). I saw lots of cathedrals, churches, caves, carvings, Christmas markets… Learnt a little about WW2, Communism, and Classical musicians. It was a fairly lengthy trip, and I’m thankful that I got the opportunity to visit one of the less ‘touristy’ destinations. I may post a couple of pics if I have the guts and if anyone’s interested. Can any of the mods or admins suggest if I should start a separate vacation blog thread or post in this one?

lizardgirl: Thanks! I forgot that bit, I need to dig out that movie again. But needless to say, it was an awesome film. And I’m aware that you’re a huge Buscemi fan, for obvious reasons!

Off topic: Did you watch Igor? It’s showing in Singapore now, I heard he got a part as a “undead roadkill bunny”.

Hey, TDIT, you’re not even away long enough for us to miss ya! snicker Nah, I’m just joshin’ with you.

You’re on a tropical island right now? I’m so jellus. Have fun! I’d love to see any photos of your holiday and an extended thread detailing what you got up to.

I’d definitely love to see some photos, thedriveintheatre! Travelling’s one of the best things in the world (pun not intended), so hearing in detail about your Eastern Europe trip would be great.

I haven’t watched it yet, just seen a few clips, and it does seem like Steve plays a pretty funny character in it.

Double post, but it’s been a long time since this thread was updated so I hope it doesn’t count.

I recently went to Rome with a couple of friends, last week in fact. We did the whole thing budget stylee, with cheap flights, a cheap hotel and a maximum spend of 20 Euro per day (including meals and admission costs for sightseeing stuff). Despite that, it was a great experience and worked very well considering the tight limitations we had set ourselves!

These are my three favourite photos from the trip.

This is the Trevi fountain, probably the most famous fountain in Rome. It really is spectacular to look at, and it seems like everyone else thinks the same as it was almost always packed in the nearby area.

This is the inside view of the colosseum. Everyone knows what it looks like from the outside, but it was a shock to us to discover all of the rooms and corridors underneath the area where gladiators used to fight to the death.

And finally, a dead pope. No, seriously.

We did see a lot of the obvious stuff on our trip- the Vatican, the colosseum and the Roman forums, plenty of churches and basilicas- but the exciting stuff were the things that even we didn’t know about before coming to Rome. A very good example is the Capuchin Crypt, in which they’ve used the bones of about 4000 monks to create some very hideous and strangely decorative artwork. Here’s a link if you’re not too squeamish (we weren’t allowed to take photos)- Capuchin Crypt

Glad you had a great time in Rome, lizardgirl! I was able to visit Rome a few years ago. It’s such a cool place to visit.

The dead Pope in St. Peter’s is rather interesting. When I first saw it, I didn’t think it was real. The fact that it is the actual Pope is neat, but disturbing at the same time!

What did you think about seeing Michelangelo’s Pieta in St. Peter’s?

Thanks Hannahmation! And yeah, we all thought Michelangelo’s Pieta was incredible. Just the amount of detail and the level of finish was shocking, and although there’s so much detail in just about everything in St Peter’s, this sculpture definitely stood out to us. There seemed to be a permanent crowd standing around it as well, and no wonder.
