Violet- the color and character

I was reading

the textbook for my color class, and at the end of one of the chapters there’s a test that tells you what your

favorite color says about the positive and negative aspects of your personality. (Wow, that was a long

sentence.) Here’s what it says about violet:

"Postitive: Spiritual awareness, containment, vision,

luxury, authenticity, truth, quality
Negative: Introversion, decadence, suppression,

inferiority"
~Designer’s Color Manual by Tom Fraser and Adam

Banks

Isn’t that interesting?

I

wouldn’t be suprised if they choose the name Violet because the colour has those associations. I can imagine

that a lot of thought went into the names. The name is what identifies a character and in fiction it defines the

character’s sense of self, or so I was told at university. You have Parr (par), Bob and Helen (oridinary,

common, every day names), Dash (I mean, come on…).

Violet’s a very unusual name, so I’ve always

assumed it was meant to be a reference to that classic clich? ‘shrinking violet’.

I don’t believe that the color means the personality. I agree with Mell about taking the name

Violet from a shinking violet.

I’ve heard this, too, on VH1 of all things. They used to have a show

called “Pop Up Video,” where they’d show a music video and add little pop-up bubbles dealing with the

production of the video, the band, and random trivia related to the lyrics of the song.

They had

something about this on the Counting Crows’ “Mr. Jones” video, when he sings about grey being his

favorite color. The bubbles said that if you liked orange, you were an extrovert; if you liked blue, you were an

introvert; and if you liked grey, you were mentally unbalanced or something like that… ::shrugs::

Hmm. Funny, because I love the color orange, but I’m NOT much of an outgoing person.

I’m trying to break out of my shell, but anyway…

And I also agree with the “shrinking violet”

notion.

Just a thought. Shouldn’t this be located in the Violet Parr forum? It is an intresting discussion, but it is

Violet Parr related.

You’re right, TSS. I’ll ask Dash about combining the two

threads.

I’m sure Pixar did put a lot of thought into

names. These can’t all just be coincidences.

I doubt coincidences. They used Violet because of the term of “a shrinking violet”,

and Dash was short for Dashiell because Dash can run really fast. Running is a similar term for dashing. Plus,

the title called the 100 Mile Dash.
