Violet's art work

I can’t wait for it Violet Parr. You know you are my favorite artist here on PP.

This may sound really cliched, but I’m gonna say it anyway: You never cease to amaze me, VP. Here’s what I think of your works:

I like the Lampy/Luxo crossover. The former happens to be my favourite from TBLT when I was a kid, actually.

The piece where Violet is cradling her head in her knees is poignant and wrought with emotion. Nice touch drawing her off-center, the empty space helps to define her isolation and loneliness. This has to be one of my favourites from you.

I have commented on your the Violet dresses in the Art Jamz thread, but I really like your fashion sense. The first one is my favourite, because it flatters her figure while not being too ‘showy’ at the same time. I can imagine this during a dinner scene in a spy movie; it just oozes sensuality and sophistication!

It would be great if you could post the improved version of Violet in her room, if you could still scan it. I don’t know exactly what inspired you to depict Violet being so lonely and deprived of human contact. Is this an alternate vision of a neglected Violet, instead of the movie’s version of a caring family? For some reason, the earlier one of her with her head in her knees worked better, probably because she was in a supersuit and hence the viewer links her depressed/guilty feelings to her line of work (she’s a superhero, she probably failed to save a few victims, and feels responsible for them). But here no reason can be discerned for her sense of isolation. Why is she alone? Why is her room so bare? Did something happen to the Parrs? Did something happen to her? I don’t know, this one made me feel a little concerned about the character, which could very well be your intent.

Again, the one of her as a kid crying sorta disturbed me. Why are there patches in her jeans? Why is there a bruise on her left cheek? There is a sinister undertone to this (possible parental abuse?), which unsettles the viewer. If that was your desired objective, you achieved it. I feel like giving her a hug and telling her everything’s okay. Gosh, this is one sad piece. :frowning:

The confident Violet pose is amazing. I’m sure TSS would’ve loved it. Nice highlights, and I like her smug, self-assured pose.

The angel version of Violet didn’t quite touch me as much as the one of her cradling her head, for some reason. Maybe it’s overtly melodramatic, maybe it’s too grandiose, instead of the quiet subtlety of the former. Nevertheless, I really, really love those wings. You gave a nice, feathery texture to them. The pose, with her arms clasped to her chest and her head bowed, is also well-done.

Oh, and the music video is so incredibly freakin’ sad. The ending broke my heart. :frowning:

Anyway, great work. Please don’t take my constructive criticisms personally, use them to improve your future work.

The Star Swordsman & Mitch- Thanks again guys! And, I’m really touched, TSS  . I’m glad you enjoy my art so much. And thanks again Mitch, for your continued viewership!

TDIT-

I’m honored! Thanks! You have no idea how excited I was to hear what you thought! Anyway, to answer your questions…

Thanks! I think I remember you saying that in the Art Jamz. I’m glad you liked that!

Thanks! And, basically, You’ve got the right idea of what’s been going on. I’ve left this one more to interpretation than usual. But the basic ideas is she’s overwhelmed or somthing happened, but it’s mostly up to the viewer to decide. And, even though it’s not anatomically correct (such as, the legs are waaaay too long), I’m glad this one touched you.

Thank you… again  ! I’m happy you liked this because an alternate career goal for me is fashion (that is, after Pixar, of course  ). I also figured you’d like that one as it looks like somthing straight out of a Bond movie (though I’ve gotta confess, I’ve never see a whole one myself turns invisible in shame :frowning: ). I could actually see her wearing that undercover. And I also appreciate that you don’t think it’s too showy (especially coming from a guy), because I do like to keep things fairly modest. Thanks again!

I’ll see what I can do  . Besides, I’d like to compare the two side by side. Anyway, let me explain myself… While this piece is supposed to be dark, it’s not supposed to be utterly hopeless, it’s more to reflect how lonely Violet was before she got her self confidence. If you read just under that picture, you’ll find my inspiration came from one of the bonus features on Up! showing the bare rock and it seemed lonely. So that’s what I did. It is actually on the same line as the movie, we’ve just caught her in one of her darker times. As for why she is alone, maybe she had a bad day at school, or got yelled at, or is just lonely. Why is her room bare?.. Weeeelllll… I WAS gonna put pictures on her wall, but I kinda… forgot and got lazy (as I’ve said many times before, I’m not good with backgrounds). But I feel it’s good that you were concerned about her. But I didn’t want it to seem that dark. But it just goes to show how everyone interprets things differently. But you’ll be seeing some more up-beat things from me shortly  . So don’t worry! Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Once again, time to explain myself… First off, the patches on her jeans are all a part of the style I was using. It’s something called Preciouse Moments, and this was my fist time doing that style. As for the bruise, I though it could be one of those child hood accidents, falling off her bike or getting slapped at school by a bully.
Actually, the idea is that she’s looking up at her mom or dad asking for help. The point isn’t to unsettle the reader, but it IS however to make you want to reach out to her. I’ve actually got another one coming of her mom reassuring her. So I think that should cheer it up  . Thanks!

Thanks! I think the solid color make a world of difference in a picture. So I was glad o get this one done. And, he did love it  , as you can see^^. And, I’m glad you like her face. It’s a nice, different pose for her. Thanks so much!

Thanks. I was actually going for the “Grand” look, as depicted in stained-class in churches and old angel paintings, but I’m thinking you like the simple elegance (as I usually do), if I am correct. But I’m glad you liked the wings! I worked hard on those things! And I’m glad I got the texture just right. And thanks for the compliments on her, as well.

I know, I cried the first time I watched it  . But I’m glad you watched it. thanks for that!

Thanks! And, don’t worry, I don’t take it personally  . But I will definitely try to do better and make my intentions clearer. Thank you so much! And I look forward to your next review!

Okay, I know it’s taken me quite some time now, but I’ve finally finished it! The concept art for TSS’s fanfic: The Incredibles: New Threat! Now, this was my first time drawing Kari, so please be patient with me…

I really hope you guys like it, and I hope it meets your expectations, TSS  !

And, one one for the road…

This is the hand practice I mentioned earlier. It’s actually a practice with hands, a study of light sources, a study of fabric, and a study of foreshortening. I messed up a few things, but I think it’s pretty good for not liking to draw hands  . Hope you like 'em! Let me know what you think!

Violet Parr, you have already showed me the black and white, rough sketch of this first drawing. I tohught that I wasn’t going to be blown away because I’ve already seen it before. But once you added the color, my eyes were immeditely drawn to the awesomeness of your picture (Maturely stated:) Once again, you have impressed and surprised me.

THe picture looks beautiful, but each of the characters look great! They look like they are actually having a conversation at school. It’s so wonderfully drawn Violet Parr. You certainly pay a lot of attention to detail! I can’t wait to see what other concept art you have in store!

On to the second drawing, I know it’s just practice, but you can’t help but put Violet in there can you? (don’t worry, I love it! She’s adorable) Keep up the great work Violet Parr. You are certainly looking good! Your art gets better each and everytime you post something new.

It’s really great you have the discipline and determination to practice your art skills… while little could be said about my own efforts… :stuck_out_tongue:

The concept art is really nicely composed and coloured, but here I’ll have to be honest and critical. You need to work a little on perspectives. For example, look at Tony’s backrest. The poles are slanting a little. One of Kari’s chair legs is missing. And the table behind her looks too ‘flat’. The only piece I think you nailed is Violet and her chair, so great work on that. Practice drawing bowls of fruit and buildings. I know it’s become a bit of an artist’s cliche, but there’s a reason why these exercises are popular. They work. So just draw random items, and study how they are in relation to their environment. Soon enough, it’ll be like second-nature to you.

And haaands!!! I can see you’ve been trying to iron out your ‘kinks’. Your marker colouring skills are amazing, I like the sheen you gave Violet’s glove. I’m pretty bad at colouring, since I doodle all the time, so commend yourself for the great work.

The best way to think of foreshortening is as layers. If you want to draw a ‘finger gun’ pointed at the viewer for example, the index finger will just be a blob. Behind the tip of the index finger and the middle, ring and pinky finger, with their first and second joints visible, along with the knuckles. Then the fleshy underside of the thumb will be pulled back in the background. The more direct the perspective lines are towards the middle of the vision field, the more exaggerated the foreshortening is (huge index finger, tiny thumb).

It’s actually better if I draw this rather than type it out, so here’s some portions from my art to illustrate this (I hope you don’t mind):

Oh, and is Violet really a southpaw? I didn’t know that! :open_mouth: I need to watch TI again and observe her…

TSS- Thanks so much, TSS  ! I’m glad you liked it! I’m glad I was still able to surprise you  ! Might I ask, does it live up to what you were envisioning?

And, as for the hands, yeah, I couldn’t resist using her as my model. But, when you see the hands, you’re actually kinda seeing my hands, as I kinda had to be my own poseable dummy  . I tried to make them look more tiny and scrawny like Violet’s, but they still look a lot like my own, so, yeah, a little bit of me in that picture  . Just a fun fact… Thanks again  !

TDIT- Thanks so much for your compliments and criticisms  . I’ll accept them both with and open head and open heart. I’m glad to here you’re view, as I wouldn’t have picked out some of those thins. Although, I can explain Kari’s one chair leg going MIA: I thought at that angle, her own leg would be blocking it. But I could be wrong. But, yeah, I’m not the best at backgrounds. I’m trying to work on that. I’m currently working on buildings and other foreshortening projects (namely, what I plan to use as my DA ID).

Thanks for the compliments on the hands! I thought it was good for a first try  . I guess my lack of a better coloring program’s let me develop my marker skills a lot. And thanks for the tips  ! I’ve been putting them into play in my latest pieces.

Oh, and, about the lefty thing, I really don’t know  . There was actually no evidence suggesting she was either lefty or righty; but I’m a south paw (and proud of it), so I kinda wanted Violet to be one also. Plus she kinda reminds me of one (good at complex thinking, but sometimes absent minded for simple things, and she seems to like her music). But, I’m just hoping  ! So, yeah, I don’t know. (off topic I can tell you this much, Bob’s right handed as seen when he writes; and Helen appears to also be right handed, as she wears her watch on her left hand.)

Anyway, Thanks so much! I hope to update soon!

About your picture of Kari, Tony, and Violet, it was almost very similar to what I envisioned in my head. I guess the only differences are just tiny things. For example, I pictured Violet wearing a completely different outfit. I think she has other street clothes besides a pink collared top and khakis. And another difference was the class room. It looks different from what I imagined it would be. But that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good. It was still Incredible.

Thanks, TSS  ! Ah, well, I guess I should’ve looked at what you typed for what she was wearing  . That’s kind of my default outfit for her, since it is what she wore at the end of the movie. And, as for the classroom, I was originally going to do a colder silver/gray tone for the room, but I thought it seemed a little too impersonal and inappropriate to the mood of the scene, which is generally happy. But is that closer to what you were thinking? I’m asking out of curiosity and because I’d like to know what you’re ideas were.

Anyway, thanks so much, again  !

The funny thing is Violet, I did not give any details of what Violet wore in that particular chapter. I believe I didn’t describe what the class room looked like. So I left it to the imagination of the reader.

But for me, I never reall gave it much thought. But I envisioned Violet wearing typical street clothes: a comfortable T-shirt, jeans, her patented headband, and either converse shoes or sandals.

I can’t wait to see the next artwork. I already got a tiny taste, and I’ll tell you, I’m really excited to see the finished product.

Thanks again, TSS  ! So sorry to keep you waiting, BTW  .

Anyway, here’s your next update  !

Just a little sketch of some emotions for Violet  . I think it turned out pretty good. I especially like the “talking” one. I think that one’s the best. It looks the most like her, in my opinion. The top left one reminds me of me in the morning  . I also like the “smug” one. My mom pointed it out to me, and now I can’t get it out of my head-- she looks like Dash :open_mouth: ! Hope you guys like it!

God Bless! Hope to hear your reviews soon  !

Very nicely done VIolet Parr. I actually saw this on your DA page. It was really neat. I think my favorite one is the Sad Violet. To be honest with you, I think the Angry VIolet looks more like an Annoyed Violet. Still, it was really nice. I can’t wait to see more stuff from ya.

Thanks, TSS  ! And thanks for being honest. Yeah, I can see what you mean. I tried to make her look more angry, but I couldn’t seem to get it. I’ll try somthing else later… Actually, I’ve got an idea for an angry picture of her with a back story, so I’ll try that… Ah, sad Violet. Yeah, she does look kinda cute there (though I do feel sorry for her). I love the hair there.

Thanks again, TSS  ! I should have more up soon enough  . (Thinks to self Yeah, let’s hope :unamused: …)

Just take your time. I’ll wait. Quality is always important. And if it means waiting a few more weeks/months, so be it.

Great job on the facial expressions Violet Parr! They’re spot-on (though like TSS said, maybe you should have added a snarl to the ‘Angry’ mood or somethin’).

You should check out books by Paul Ekman if you have them in your local library. He is an expert on facial expressions and lie-detection, and was the main character inspiration for Dr Lightman in the TV series ‘Lie to Me’. I want to read it (cos’ it was recommended in the course outline for one of our drawing classes), but maybe you can use it as inspiration if you can borrow it!

Great artwork! I love the one of Violet in the trenchcoat! You could TOTALLY design for disney!

Wow, very neat, pretty sketches, Violet Parr! I think it’s simply amazing how you pulled off those different emotions. I especially like the “I’m not a morning person” and “Talking” and “Smug” ones. The “Talking” one is nice and perfectly casual. The “Smug” look is spot-on perfect. The “I’m not a morning person” one is also so.
You’re great at drawing expressive looks for this character! Good job!

TSS- Thanks for your patience  . Like I said, I’ll try to do the best I can.

TDIT- Thanks for the compliments, critiques, and suggestions  ! I’ll definitely check that out if they have it at the library. Thanks for that!

Lots-O-Huggin Bear- Thanks  ! Actually, that’s kinda my second choice for a job (after working at Pixar). Thanks for the compliments! It’s always great to hear from a new viewer!

BDD- Thanks  ! I’m glad you liked them! Those are my favorites, also.

HEy Violet Parr. Just wondering how’s progress goin for ya?

Well, to be honest, it’s not really going anywhere  . I’m kinda mad at myself… I do have some other work to show ya, though  ! So, I hope, for now, this will suffice…

This is my first comic strip! Basically, it’s just a little comedy piece I thought of for The Incredibles. Violet and her mom are chasing a couple of bad guys through a paint shop, knocking just about everything over. And when they subdue the robbers, Helen takes them outside and ties them up. Meanwhile, Violet’s inside (probably making sure no one else was there and the place was secure), and she’s in there with all the fumes from the open cans of paint that fell over. By the time she comes out, she’s dazed and high on the fumes. Originally, I just had this really goofy picture of her in my mind. But then it turned into a whole comic strip that’s a page long. It’s good practice, though. And it’s just plane fun  .

Gothic Violet. Just… part of my Gothic phase, I guess  . I thought maybe Violet would, at one point, go through a rebellious phase, but not in the bad kinda way. More of an… “experimental” rebellion than a “misbehaving” rebellion. But, now that I’m looking at it, she seems a little younger than I would have her be when going through this phase. But, I still like it. I think she can pull off Goth. The shirt she’s wearing in the main picture, BTW, is a knockoff of Kari’s regular style. If you look at Kari’s shirts in the move and the short, that’s generally what she wears. Maybe Violet borrowed it from her…

Hope you guys like it  ! I’ll update again as soon as I can! God Bless!

(Oh, BTW, I did update me non-Pixar art thread, but no one seems to have noticed. Just plugging my work…)
