Okay, as usual, it’s been a looong while, but here’s your next update !
This is some really old work of mine, but I don’t really have anything new to show you quite yet. So here’s a piece I like to call “A Supers Sorrow.”
I know, the anatomy on this is waaay off, but, like I said, it’s old and from before I had a good grasp of anatomy. I just liked the concept. This is also one of the few pieces I named, because, at the time, I felt it was one of my most emotionally touching pieces. And the name kinda popped into my head.
Let me know what you think! Thanks again for the comments and constructive criticism !
My god Violet Parr! Violet looks so upset! This piece really hit me in the heart! I totally feel Violet’s pain and sorrow! Very nicely done! I don’t see anything wrong with it! You say it looks off, but I say it looks perfect!
By the way, is there like a backstory to Violet’s appearent sadness?
The composition of that one is brilliant, Violet Parr- the way you’ve laid it out and the strong shading makes the piece all the more effective; it’s just really nice to look at. I think the anatomy looks pretty good, only a little off, and as you said yourself you’ve improved a lot since. Can’t wait to see your next piece!
Bravo Vi - you’ve captured her emotions so well! To be honest, I’m proud of you
The anatomy looks correct, and I really don’t see any fault. In fact, I just have to comment on your shading - it does make a difference, and you’ve done a great job on that.
I think it looks amazing for an old piece, Violet Parr! I can sense the sorrow in there. The shading is terrific and sems to add another layer to it, if you know what I mean. I like how you did her soft hair. Good title to go with it, too.
Like what TSS asked, is there a certain little story behind this?
By the way, your Art Jam entry of 2D meets 3D is adorable! I like how Lampy seems to be happy to greet Luxo, and Luxo is rather staring out (at us). Creative crossover idea, too.
Bwah. Poor Vi! But more importantly, what a beautifully rendered piece!
It’s actually the composition I like about it the most. It’s not centered, and there’s no background. It’s minimalistic, and when doing something like this with a lot of emotion the lack of distractions and symmetry can add so much to it. I’m babbling a bit, but that just because I have no other way of expressing my delight. I truly love this.
Please keep posting.
Thank you so much, TSS, lizardgirl, Phileas, BDD and Haunt ! I guess my great shading made up for my poor anatomy . Thanks guys!
I’m glad it touched you so deeply, TSS . I was really glad to hear that. If you don’t mind me asking, what came to your mind when you saw Violet in this position? What did you think caused it?
Thanks lizardgirl ! I’m glad you don’t think the anatomy’s that off. It just bugs me . Thank you so much, though! And thanks for the compliment on the shading!
Thanks Phileas ! I’m always glad to read your reviews! Thanks for being so consistent.
And Thanks BDD for the compliment on my Art Jams piece . I’m also glad Violets hair looks so soft. Almost make you wanna run your fingers through it and ask, “What conditioner do you use?”
And I’m always grateful for your input Haunt ! I’m glad you liked it! It’s okay if you babble a little. I’m guilty of that myself . I don’t mind. I really appreciate it!
And, as a couple of you were asking, there actually wasn’t a back story to this. Well, I’m a liar, there kind of was. But it’s not so much a story as a concept. See, I was thinking, it would kind of represent, not only the old memories that bother her, but the pressure of being a super hero and the responsibilities that come with it (explaining why she’s in her super suit). Maybe at one point she becomes overwhelmed and just brakes down. But that’s about all. I just had the image in my head and I wanted to get it out on paper.
Thanks again everyone! I hope to update soon! I’ve already cranked out a few new ones for ya! (At least, practice pieces). I hope to finish them soon and get them scanned to show them to you! God Bless!
Thanks, TSS! Sounds like your second idea was exactly what I was thinking. Though, it is open to interpretation, so you can come up with whatever scenario you want . All yours were really good. Thank you so much!
This was my entree for the Art Jamz, But I wanted to post it in my art thread…
This next one is the one I told you about a while ago, of Violet in her room. I tried my best with the shading, I think it should’ve been a little darker. I’ve recently fixed the picture, but it was scanned before I fixed it… Note to self, never be in a hurry to scan ever again.
I got this idea whilst watching the bonus features on Up. The emptiness and coldness of the rock reminded me of how lonely Violet must’ve been. And the lack of nose, except for the whistle of the wind, made me think of how Violet must’ve felt so neglected, and like the only little attention she got only made her hurt worse. Yeah, I get a lot form looking at God’s beautiful creation. Landscapes inspire me to draw a living version of it.
I hope you guys like it ! Comments and constructive criticism are both welcome! God Bless!
My goodness Violet Parr. My jaw is on the floor right now. Violet looks really cute, but so sad in your latest picture! I really love it. Keep it up Violet Parr. You continue to impress me.
Okay, it’s been a while, again. I’m really sorry. And sorry if I sound like a broken record. But I’m sure the wait will be worth it when you see what I’ve got for you! So without further procrastination, here’s my up date!
This is one of the results of my resent art binge. The sketch was done a bit prior to the finished product. I always see Disney Characters depicted as Precious Moments characters, and I thought Violet would look just adorable as one. So this is what you get… I was gonna but a Bible verse at the bottom, But I kinda forgot, and scanned it before I did . Oh well, I can always do it later .
Yet another project that got pushed off for way too long. But I was waiting to get a good flesh colored marker, but that didn’t happen. So I decided to just do the face in pencil and get it done. I actually traced this from the Birthday card I made for TSS. I just wanted to see it as a 2D cartoon .
And, finally…
If any picture I’ve ever done has come directly from God, this is it. This is probably the best one I’ve ever done. I absolutely love this! I got the inspiration while listening to Concrete Angel by Martina McBride. This song so reminded me of Violet, but in a darker way. I know Violet’s never been through anything like this, but this idea of her as an angel came to me, and I just had to do it. The idea of such a piece and never having to be worried again, God bringing you out of your circumstances and giving you eternal life, it touched me very deeply. And I hope that, even if you don’t believe in that, that you can still appreciate this picture for it’s sheer beauty. The color makes this whole thing. The sketch itself took probably under an hour, give or take. But the coloring took hours, maybe 12 -16 hours of work or more total (though not in one sitting ). Then I took a white pencil over the whole thing (I read somewhere that it’s one of the best ways to blend color). This is also fresh off the clip board, I just finished it yesterday. Meanwhile, I was listening to this song almost the entire time I was drawing this. Consequently, Concrete Angel is now probably the most played song in my Ipod .
Violet Parr, please! Stop it! STOP IT! Oh the torture! I can’t take it! Just… too… CUTE!!! I Can’t HOLD IT!!!
(starts crying)
Oh my goodness Violet Parr! I saw the first two Violet drawing and I felt something in my heart. It was just so incredible! You really put a lot of heart in your drawings! My jaw dropped on to my desk when I saw the two pics of Violet crying.
We never saw much of a crying Violet in the movie (though I would loved too), but this really did it for me. Excellent job! I was wondering where you went with your artwork. I thought you forgot. But hey, the wait was definetely worth it.
When I saw Violet as an angel, I immediately thought of the song “I’ll be your Angel” by Celine Dion, but I was thinking VIolet is my angel. (Hey, I still have a crush on her, despite 5 years since the release of the movie) This is one of my favorites that you have done Violet Parr. Keep up the good work. I’m speechless!
Violet Parr - Nice compositions, Violet Parr! Even though it’s basically a traced image, the third one is my favorite. I also love the fourth one, not just for the colors… but for the Christian message behind it. Again, nice work!
The Star Swordsman- Thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked them! Don’t worry, I didn’t forget . I was just dormant for a while. I’m glad you liked the Precious Moments Violet drawings. Took me a while to get the style right, but I did it! I’m glad you got something out of that. And, I agree, I’d love to see more emotion from Violet in the future. And I’m so glad you loved the Violet angel! Buy chance, did you watch the video I linked of the song that helped inspire me? I’m not saying you have to, but if you do, it might give you an even greater appreciation for the picture. I also love the song “I’ll be your Angel” by Celine Dion. I knew you have a crush on Violet, so I knew you’d love these . Thanks so much again! I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that this affected you so deeply! I’ll have more work for you shortly . And I started working on that concept art for ya! I think you’ll like the concept I’ve got .
Mitch- Thanks, Mitch ! I’m glad you liked them. I also liked how the third one turned out, the bright colors really make it stand out. I’m also really glad you liked the last one! I was hoping to really reach people with that one, and I’m glad I did. Again, thank you so much! And I look forward to your reviews on my future art !
God Bless, guys! I’ll be back with more very soon (believe me, I’ve got plenty, I have no excuse this time !).
