Mitch - I hope you have fun, because seeing it in the cinema just isn’t the same as watching it on DVD, is it? The big screen, surround sound, reaction of the audience who are seeing it for the very first time, atmosphere… So yeah, savour every moment of it. And let us know how it goes!
Also, you’re lucky to have a mum who will see it seven times. Mine won’t even go for the second time with me.
Oh, blast it all! Mom decided not to take me to see the film yesterday because she was “tired of driving”. The good news, however, is that, apparently, the film is still playing in the area, thank heavens. If I don’t see it tomorrow some innocent citizens will face dire consequences…
rachel - You know, you’re absolutely right. There is just nothing like seeing it on the big screen…
The Star Swordsman - Haha! Yeah, I’ll probably break the DVD…
That sucks, dude! Are you sure she doesn’t want to see it again? It’s such a wonderful film…
rachel- They do sometimes, but it’s very, very rare. I think they did on the new James Bond one, and on some random other films, but they also like to change the times of the subtitled showing so it’s sort of a guessing game. We’ve complained about it before, but the cinema chain doesn’t seem keen on changing their policy.
Well, I finally saw it on Saturday. Unfortunately, my current…umm…“premenstrual” state didn’t agree with me and made the experience not quite as enjoyable as I anticipated it to be. Henceforth, I shall see it again this Saturday…for the twenty-fifth time. I know that it will still play, because the owner of the theater I now see it at said that the film is his most popular one at the moment, so it will stay at his theater for some time, thank goodness. Also, I “need” to see it for the twenty-fifth time anyway, as my dad saw The Empire Strikes Back the same amount of times and I want to “square up” to him. Heheh.
rachel - I hope she says “yes”…
lizardgirl - They hardly ever add subtitles to films in my area, either. It sucks. They really should consider integrating it into more cinemas…
Hehe, if everything goes according to my plan, I’m going to see it twice this weekend! But I’m gonna watch the Portuguese dubbed version, though. Well, what matters is that I’m going to see it!
Even better, the new school where I’m going to stays right next to a shopping mall where the English version of Ratatouille is playing! Dude, I’m so happy… my classes start next week, and I’ll see if I still have some time to watch it there…
Personally, I loved this film. I knew I would enjoy it just from watching the ad that was on the “Cars” already I enjoy films about rodents so the way I saw it, you can’t really go wrong with that. But, it exceeded even my expectations, the animation is fantastic and truely adoreable of all the animated effects my favourite has to be the fur, it looks almost as if you could touch it and it would feel every bit as soft as it looks.
Having said that, it’s amazing how many times you’ve seen it, Mitch. Myself, I’ve only been able to see it twice, although all the theaters in my area do charge about $10 per person and admittingly seeing a film twice in theaters is almost unheard of for me. The only other film I ever saw in theaters twice was the first Pokemon movie and that was because the first time I saw it, my parents got the wrong time so I missed half, plus I was, back then and to some extent today a bit of a (as I call it) Pika-chan (Pikachu-fan, hee hee, yes another rodent character). Also Ratatouille is the first film I’ve ever seen in theaters completely myself, I saw Cars with a friend of mine, last year, but I was still with someone, this time I was only taxied to and from the theater (Funny, Toy Story was the first film I saw in theaters, Cars was the first one I saw without an adult present and now Ratatouille is the first film I see by myself). Hee hee I picked up a Ratatouille gachapon capsule figure as a souveneer
MiniChuchan - I’m glad that you loved the film! You can’t go wrong with Pixar…
I actually spent quite a bit of dough on Ratatouille tickets, as the ticket prices in my area range from $7.50 - $10.50 per person, depending on whether or not one attends a matinee screening. Multiply approxiamately $9.00 times twenty-four and you get a pretty big number. I saved up a decent pile of money last year for a reason, although…I must admit that I might have spent a little too much dough. (snigger)
You know, I haven’t mentioned my favorite special effect yet. I would have to say that the winner, for me, would be the water. I mean, just look at it! It’s incredible how much effort and time the Pixar dudes took/put into creating the stuff. [spoil]What especially gets me is when those droplets of water fall on Remy’s head in the sewer waterways. The reaction of the liquid upon the fur is so dang realistic. Incredible…[/spoil]
Also, something about the film has bee puzzling me for some time, and that is this:
[spoil]Near the film’s closure, when Linguini returns to the restaurant at night to search for the “little chef”, Remy runs out from behind the door of the food closet to face his partner. Linguini then states, “Oh hey, little chef. I thought you went back to the…the apartment.”
By this time, Linguini had inherited/obtained a large estate due to his newfound position as head of Gusteau’s! restaurant and was no longer living in his beat, run-down apartment. When he asked Remy if he had returned to the apartment, did he accidentally say “apartment” instead of “house/manor/estate”, or was he intentionally referring to his old apartment complex?[/spoil]
Just curious as to whether or not anyone has a plausible answer to this.
Maybe he was just in the habit of saying appartment. I know some people will actually go back to the house that they used to live in for monthes after moving if the two houses are close by.
Well, saw it for the second time last night!
This time, I watched the Portuguese dubbed version. Well, in my opinion, the original is always the best, but I was pretty impressed with this version, and it’s nice to hear it in my language. =) The part that I really appreciated was [spoil]the drunk scene. The actor who did the voice of Linguini managed to add some “drunk-iness” to his voice, you know what I mean? It was really funny to hear him in that part! [/spoil]
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch it for the second time this weekend, as I expected. In fact, as I’m speaking, the movie is playing right now, and I’m not watching it!
Oh, well, the bright side is that maybe I’ll be watching it again this week, after school!
Maggie - Haha! The whole [spoil]drunk Linguini[/spoil] scene sounds really funny in Portuguese. I wish I could listen to the whole movie in your language. T’would be kinda cool…
[spoil]Not to mention how cute Remy looks when he puts his ears down when going under the water.[/spoil] I love that part. I’m starting to love Remy, here…
Good question. My guess is that… [spoil] The generic word for the place where you live is apartment? Or maybe it was a bit apartment that he rented? An apartment is stilll an apartment no matter how expensive…[/spoil]
Oh, and has Ratatouille officially stopped playing near you Mitch? Or has it done its run…
Maggie - Have fun seeing it again. I’m sure you would. Oh, and do you have trouble understanding the English version of Ratatouille, or is your verbal English just as good as your written English…?
Oh , yes. He’s quite adorable. Horay for Remy lovers!
Hmm. Good speculation. That sure sounds plausible! Good guess…
Believe it or not, Ratatouille is still playing near my area! It is only running in one theater now, but the owner of the cinema in question said to my mom and I that it is is most popular film at the moment, hence the reason why it’s still playing at that one theater. Heheh.
Rat is gone out of the major theaters in my area, but there’s a little old antique theater still playing it. It’s sweet cause this theater also has two screens: indoor and drive-in. As you would expect, Ratatouille was great outside under the stars.
They sure are. Dirt cheap too: I think it’s four bucks for regular admission, and three for twelve and under. They’ve only got one drive-on screen, though. So your film isn’t necessarily going to be playing there. But when it is, it’s beyond wicked.
