Well WALL-E has made an appearance in the current issue (whether it was in any previous ones I dont know, something happened to my subscription). They have spoof of Iron Man (called Ironic, Man) and the last panel [spoil]shows a press conference where ‘Phony Snark’ says “I guess they all want to talk about the incredible debut of the most popular metal hero anybody ever saw!” Turns, out the press isnt there for him, cuz it shows them all clamoring over WALL-E [/spoil]
Then they did a spoof of Calvin and Hobbes called “calvin & Jobs” That’s right, Steve Jobs. One of the strips has Calvin & Jobs talking about WALL-E:
Jobs- Boy I’m really proud of the new Pixar movie! It’s always been my dream to do things in animated storytelling that have never been done before! And with WALL-E, Pixar has used the most powerful software in the world to establish bold new frontiers!
Calvin-So what’s it about?
Jobs- A cute thing that learns a valuable lesson
Calvin- Again?
Jobs- Yup.
Hahaha, no problem BnL. If anyone feels unlazy and wants to scan the Mad Kids or Mad Mag stuff, you’d rock, but I’m also lazy so I can’t offer anything in return but gratitude.
…When did that happen in the movie again? That may be funny if it was true, [spoil]but the cute thing was the one who already knew the right thing to do. Unless you count M-O, but he’s not who the story is about…[/spoil]
The joke was that [spoil]cute thing learns a lesson[/spoil] as a basic plot has been done, many times in many movies.
I felt I could put this here since it’s related, but WALL-E has a mention in the comic strip Sally Forth. It’s not one I usually read so i dont know who the characters are but it just caught my eye. The strip this week i guess is enjoying fall “on the cheap” so the strip suggests recalling movies in your mind rather than renting them. So they show the dad kind of upset and he’s saying “And then when…when EVE saw the playback of how WALL-E had taken care of her during sleep mode…sniff…”
Ok, I finally scanned the MADKids one for those who want to see them. There are a few of them, so I will just post the links. And some of the comics are pretty cheesy, but others are pretty funny.
